So RE7, GR 2, KH 2.8, Yakuza 0 and Tales of Berseria release in the same week... -_-*

Resident Evil is my 100% buy.

Will have to see the PC performance and availability in my region on Tales. Yakuza 0 is what I'm super interested in though. Time wise though I might just go RE7 and after being done with that see what I am craving since Tales and Yakuza are pretty big.

Why ? what the fuck are they thinking ? I want all of them and I will have all of them but I'll never have the time to play all them so I won't buy all of them ( at full price ) and I can't show my support to those series with my money because I don't have that wallet power, that is so stupid, some of them are finished and released in Japan for months/years, I just don't get it, what's the point to release all those games in the same damn week, even the same day for 4 of them ? Most of them are send to death and it's pissing me off, I can't choose which game I will support at full price now...

Are you in the same situation ? What games are you planning to buy or support this month ? do you think publishers need to stop sending their game to a certain death before complaining about no support from the West ? I can only choose 2 "exclusive" games max this month so I hope I can find which game to support before the deadline...

Edit: I forgot Dragon Quest VIII and Atelier Shallie Plus...

Seriously, companies will never learn. Why do they keep doing this idiotic decision to release all of your high profile games so close to each other? Not only is it hard on wallets of consumers, but it will inevitably destroy potential sales for most of the relatively niche games games also.

My only concern is: when thinking of developing sequels and whatnot, aren't the first few week sales used as an indicator to make the decision?

I think first 3 months are crucial, 1st week is definitely the most indicative of a potential success/failure, but word of mouth can really help later down the line.

Only problem is, that after first 2 or so weeks most people are gonna go for cheaper used copies, and no publisher cares about those sales [unless you're cod or gta and make shit-ton of money via MACROtransactions], it hurts a lot of games, but especially smaller ones, that's why so many adamant fans of more niche titles are often seeing advocating supporting those niche franchises with a day 1 buy, or at least digital later down the line.

They are all great game too.
GR2 have great reviews, Yakuza 0 arguably best in the series, ToB same deal, KH2.8 remaster of great game, DQ8 special edition of best DQ, only RE7 is unknown.
Japan wreck your wallet week.

Then February comes...

Yakuza 0 for me, everything else needs to come afterwards.

Maybe RE7 if it turns out to be good. The demos, they do nothing for me.

Was only going to get GR2 and DQVIII but the Berseria demo had to be good so now I'm buying that. And I'll probably pick up Digimon World down the line

mods pls ban this filth

Gravity Rush 2 and Resident Evil 7 I'm getting for sure. The problem I have now is deciding to get Tales of Berseria or Yakuza 0 day one and buy the other later on down the line.

I'm leaning a bit more towards Yakuza 0 after watching Easy Allies stream it.

I can't decide between GR2 and Yakuza 0. These gif wars don't make it any easier.

Is Yakuza 0 a good place to start the series? I've never played one before.
Yes, it's THE place to start the series. I just quote myself from the other thread.
I can understand how some people might be wary of prequels and think you still need to have knowledge of the earlier titles to really understand them like MGS3. But Yakuza 0 really isn't one of those games.

People need to understand that Y0 was made with the goal of introducing new people to the series in mind. This is literally the game SEGA made to get into the Asian market. And they succeeded in doing that. Cause it's an amazing game. An amazing entry point to the series. It's an amazing title all around.

If you want a chance to get into the Yakuza series, This. Is. it.

Plain and simple.

I actually have been saving for this, it did hurt but I could pre order all of them. About ur question. First ask yourself which game you want to play ASAP, if you really don't have a favorite and just want to show support, then just buy the two most dependable on sales numbers, I'm guessing Yakuza 0 and Gravity Rush... but again, if you already have favorites, just go for those and pick them.

Thanks for the response. I'll pick it up, I'm more inclined to pick a game up when it's future in the West hinges on the success of a title that is taking a risk by being localised. Especially if there's a small but passionate fanbase. It sucked when the Tales games were often being launched in Japan and there wasn't a huge amount of confidence of them coming here. That's actually why I picked up Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth last year and I ended up loving it, now I'm buying and looking forward the new one. Hopefully this will jumpstart my love for the Yakuza series.

Will only buy RE7.

Vouched to limit myself this year. It's really no use. If I buy everything I want to play, I'll just end up barely playing any games properly. Will not make the same mistake as in 2016.

RE7 for January/February, Horizon for March, Mass Effect for April. Nothing in between. Gotta set some boundaries for myself.

I honestly want all of them.

But I like the PC platform, and only two of them are coming to PC right now, so those are the two I'm picking up.

Resident Evil 7 is my most anticipated game.

I've heard good things about Tales of Berseria.

Yakuza 0 and Gravity Rush 2... I can dream.

If I had to order them in order of how much I'm anticipating them, I'd rank them RE7 > GR2 > ToB > Y0 > KH2.8

Releasing a product is not just about finding an empty sales week.

It’s about finding the right sales slot that has:
-the best pre-release day opportunity for marketing coverage
-the best release week
-the best post-release avoid big-scale competition week

It’s hard to describe it without examples and situation, but I think it makes more example with different situations.

Imagine if Yakuza 0 was released this week.

That means that Atlus, SEGA, gaming sites, influencers, etc only have 7-9 working days to preview, stream, review and setup the pre-launch marketing cycle for Yakuza 0. Even less for those who don’t immediately come out of holiday break after 1st Jan.

Ideally, you give some space to let marketing like this breathe. One week for an extensive preview, not everyone will go live at the same time. Then reviews drop next week. Then product releases a few days after that.

The best timing for the above marketing cycle of preview/review/release in the month of launch is about 2-3 weeks, and thus the best January window is around 20th or 24th of the month.

To an extent, the same logic is applicable for Gravity Rush 2. But instead of a extended 2-3 week preview/review cycle, they scrapped off a few days by just letting reviews for this game drop 10 days in advance. And while I definitely questioned this strategy at first, in hindsight it makes more sense because Gravity Rush 2 is a lower priority game for many sites, and thus some sites haven’t released a review or haven’t played enough so more reviews/impressions will drop over the next week or so.

But the Yakuza cycle is the more realistic approach for most. Finding the right slot that balanced all the marketing components is an essential as finding an empty one. An empty one that grants you lower marketing coverage may not be worth it compared to a more competitive slot that gives you maximised coverage.

As for why it doesn’t instead go for February or March. Those months are worse.

Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0 and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 for me, in that order... I'll still buy them all at the same time because I'm bad with money.

I really, really, REALLY hope that there are no more games coming out after June.

Please release no more good games after June, I need the rest of the year to catch up this first 6 months @_@

Got so many games with christmas and discounts in january that I will buy none of them...

Anyway I will buy later only: RE7,GR2 and Yakuza 0.

I have them all pre ordered except for Gravity Rush 2.
I'll probably play REVII first because it's probably the shortest of the bunch and I want to avoid spoilers as much as possible. Then I will dive into Yakuza 0 again with the RPG's on the side. Yeah... that week is pure madness.

I got RE7 preordered for me by my old man for Xmas
I have such a big backlog but I will buy Yakuza anyway to support the devs

Tales of Berseria and GR2 though..... I want them but because of my backlog I'll wait til the price drops.

As an added side note - having been in the 'buying and selling' industry for a while now - Tales of Berseria is one of those 'buy a sealed copy and leave it for 10 years' kind of games. Really expect they won't ship that many so the value will race up in years to come.

Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 0 would be my choices, but money is tight right now. I didn't like the Berseria demo, I thought it was too much of a button masher and the drawings were sometimes something out of DeviantArt.

Everyone please get Yakuza 0. The series needs all the help it can get. If you care at all about the future of more niche series being released in the West then you must vote with your wallet. Resident Evil isn't going anywhere.

Already have RE7 preordered due to that I love the vibe of it and the VR stuff. I REALLY want GR2 and Yakuza 0, but money is tight.

The thing I hate is that I pretty much only like going digital now due to that my laziness will usually always lead me to something that doesnt require me to get up and swap discs. Both games digitally are $59.99. I can grab both off Amazon for $47.99. Wish we could buy the digital copies off Amazon for that amount.

I have Yakuza 0 already pre-ordered. Still considering picking up Gravity Rush 2 to support the developers. But I don't really have time to play it.

Resident Evil 7 will sell enough without my help. Might buy it on sale this fall if the reviews are positive.

Only interested in Yakuza 0 and RE7 out of those. Nioh and Nier are coming fairly soon as well though so it's a busy time for me. It's rare I want this many upcoming releases at one time.
