Death Stranding Discussion (12/2016 trailer)

So in the end, Mads's face is clean. Anyone has any clue why that happened?

I just assumed that his face is clean because he stopped using his powers. The strands that were attached to the skeleton soldiers came off and the goo went away. He even lifted his head back like he was getting himself back together.

Unless you are talking about something else.

Examples of things in the game that aren't anachronisms?
It's just associated with electronics I think.
I thought more specifically technology that shouldn't exist at that point. Like that weird blacklight eraser or the idroid. Can't really remember every occurrence of it though, so that it's just generally surrounding electronics is also possible.

nice article on Glixel – Hideo Kojima Talks Soundtrack and the Meaning of 'Death Stranding'. not sure if it was posted.
Sounds like Kojima has a new crush. I imagine we'll hear them again. Perhaps even a original song for the game.

one question off topic about Phantom Pain,

Venom has summoned the whale right? But Why? It's a fan of Moby Dick? XD
And Mantis was controlled from him in the hospital, before Volgin killed soldiers? There's a scene when Mantis show up for a moment near Venom, then disappear and came controlled from Volgin. And was Venom to evoke the rain when he was running way with Ocelot?

sorry for bad english.

but the helicopter scene in GZ? Why the yellow codebar?

make no sense for me.

that yellow codebar looking thing is lens flare. It just looks like that from AKB Music Video.

When do games ever look like their early trailers?
I am also reserving some judgment however this situation is somewhat different. This is not a new engine they are building, they are just optimizing an already finished engine. And again out of most current gen games out mgsv: tpp is very consistent with its cutscenes to gameplay transition, they look nearly the same the only difference is one zoomed in and the other at gameplay distance. I can take a closer gameplay shot but i cannot tell any difference other than cutscene hero lighting in some cases. No additional shaders afaik.

Again we have to wait for the gameplay obviously to further confirm the game will indeed look like that.

nope, they're not typical lens flare, there is a peculiar sound every time yellow codebars appear, meaning it's important.

It's different because he's putting his own twist on it. But it's literally there simply because he liked how it looked

4. Part of Kojima’s direction in Ground Zeroes was inspired in part by an AKB48 music video.

Konami also confirmed this, pointing out that the sideways lens flares that can be seen in the game are directly inspired by the idol group’s music videos.

I wonder what the babies mean in this.

Either there is one baby (transporting from Norman to Del Toro), or everyone has one ?

Guillermo seems to struggle to keep his safe and Norman has just lost his.
Mads seems to relish being disconnected by the soldiers and the way he looks at the broken baby doll (and the creepy smile at the camera) maybe implies that he killed his...

The baby might symbolize each person's connection to his/her humanity or something ?

Kojima's visual language has come a long way since the early MGS days.
My only concerns are those :

- Kojima indulging on a all-star cast limiting the game because of budget
- Overexplaining everything. Instead of leaving the pictures speak for themselves and let the audience make their own conclusions, having expository dialogues and long pseudoscience statements explaining every single aspect of the world. That was my problem with MGSV as well. Transfroming male wolvachia to female etc. I liked MGS1 style more in that front (Psycho Mantis. There was an actual experiment testing psychic powers. In real-life it failed. But not in MGS ! Simple as that. No need to mention Mantis' powers technicalities.)

The best scenario out of it is that Kojima having famous actors means DS is already leaning towards more visual storytelling. (basically my two concerns complementing one another)

I wouldn't expect him to be any different than he has been.. Think of MGS2, where there is like an hour long codec scene rigt before the last boss fight to explain everything. MGS4's ending was an hour and a half cutscene explaining why Big Boss is alive and why Zero is magically the bad guy. Peace Walker and MGSV are the same: Here listen to some tapes where we explain everything ad nauseam.

That's just Kojima, and Japanese storytelling to some extent. Just look how many animes have the main character just sitting there talking to themselves for 15 minutes explaining their motivations and plans while the camera pans over a still image.

I have no idea what the hell is going on in that video, but it's really damn interesting. Any idea if this is a concept that Kojima has been stewing on for a while now, but Konami wanted him to make another MGS game instead while he was still with them?

I was thinking the exact same thing. What Kojima said years ago about his next project being extremely controversial does not seem to be the case with MGSV.
But maybe child soldiers and the protagonist being a borderline villain might have been it.

I'm probably LTTP but...

I was re-watching the 1st trailer and noticed that when the camera pans over Reedus that his handcuff is turned off and then we see it switching on as he starts to move.

Has this been discussed before?

Does it mean that he is dead and has the hand-prints reach him he comes to life?

Didn't want to start a new thread since it's pretty vague, but Stefanie Joosten, the voice of Quiet, just said she will be doing a voice acting job tomorrow related to a video game she can't mention. Good chance it's Death Stranding. What say you, guys?

She was at GG in March. Could be for Death Stranding or Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Before anyone asks for sources, she said so on her latest FFXV stream just 15 minutes ago. Should be up on Youtube in a few hours. You guys who missed it can watch it then. And yes, she loved FFXV, just got the ending

I hope she finishes her MGSV playthrough.
She did say the next stream will very likely be MGSV. I get the feeling she may not like it that much, though. Took her under a month to pump 71 hours into FFXV, but still hasn't finished MGSV in over a year.

FINAL FANTASY XV END GAME SPOILERS

Also ...I cried at the ending again. FFXV is my favorite game. Such a sad ending.

Well, even if she does she wont say that on the stream, she will most likely say it was good.

Pretty much, haha. I could be wrong, it's just a suspicion I've held for a while

LOL, nevermind. Stefanie just revealed the game on Twitter, not Death Stranding, just some random game I never even heard of. Sorry to get some of you guys hyped for nothing. Unless this is all a ruse, hehe.

The game she's recording for, for those curious. (ICEY) The game has full audio support in English, Traditional and Simplified Chinese so it is likely that Stefanie is recording for a Japanese dub of the game. The game itself doesn't look too bad. May give it a shot.

Edit: For English dub.

Probably nothing more than Kojima Productions Twitter handlers appreciating a video, but ...hopefully something. MGSV was one of the best PC ports I had played in such a long stretch prior to its release, it's hard not to crave more of their greatness on PC.

Kojima even retweeted it!!!

It Seems That Kojima Is Fultoning Everyone From Konami To Kojima Productions
Generally speaking, when a high ranking employee departs from an employer, the employer has multiple provisions in place to protect their interests, and ensure that the employee won’t encroach on their territory. These provisions include non compete agreements, which bar the employee from holding a similar position to the one they held with the employer for a certain amount of time, and non poaching agreements, which prohibit the employee from asking others at the company to quit to come work with them.

In the case of Konami and Hideo Kojima, it seems that none of those apply whatsoever. Not only has Kojima quit Konami, and started his own new studio right away, but it also looks like he is siphoning off some of the best talent from Konami to his own new studio. We already know that he has Yoji Shinkawa, the Art Director, working with him, along with Ken-Ishiro Imaizumi, the Producer; personal assistant Ayako Terashima; and Shinji Hirano, the former President of Konami Europe.

But it looks like that’s not all, either. Apparently, Kojima also has Masaki Saito and Jackie Tan, formerly game designers at Konami, working at his new studio. He’s also managed to get Yasuhiro Kawakami, cinematic artist at Konami, working at the new Kojima Productions. Chihoko Uchiyama, who was the senior character designer at Konami, has also been recruited by Kojima. And in what is probably Kojima’s biggest coup, he has Akio Sakamoto, the man who designed the core of the FOX Engine, working with him at the new Kojima Productions, too.
Jackie! Looks like Kojima and company have more than picked up the pieces. Not entirely sure how accurate gamingbolt is, but Jackie's Twitter bio reads "Kojima Productions" and that's a major get for them given his playtesting prowess he displayed prior to MGSV's launch.

A teaser that's full up like a landfill.
A job that slowly killed me.
Games that won't release.

You look so tired and unhappy.
Bring down that Konami.
They don't make the games for us.

I'll take a Quiet waifu.
A grand break - Kojima Productions
And Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus.
Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus.
Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus, please.
