Bunch of PSVR games turning into vaporware

Yeah, it's totally reasonable for individual developers to do this and even publicly state this. It's entirely different (and shocking!) for the platform holder to do this.

Look at the claim again:

I am baffled that Sony would say this... essentially telling customers not to expect much.

If I missed such a statement, I only have myself to blame for buying PSVR.

I don't think they did.. I think he is taking liberty with paraphrasing a bit there. I think Sony may have say that the games may be ina lull after launch because they were trying to get a solid lineup out. But they were not like we are going to release it and forget.. if anything I heard them say even if this doesn't work out initially they are in the vr game for the long haul.

Is PSVR actually hard to find in stores? I haven't been looking for it specifically, but noticed about five in my local Walmart a couple days ago. The shelf was full.

If install base is a factor here, it'd be nice if Sony put some more units in the pipeline. Shit is impossible to find.

This is what I want to see too. Also would be a boost to Sony in Japan cause I know many people who haven't bought a console in years who will buy one once they can finally get their hands on the vr unit. It sucks no one can get one at least where I am right now. Been looking for months. Hopefully soon I'll get lucky.

Not the main reason I sold mine, but the writing is on the wall. Hyped experiences like Battlefront were underwhelming and support by major publishers is turning into tacked on experiences. Not a horror fan and what's really on the horizon? Wish they would just announce their intentions.

Told you, its another eyetoy, move, vita, wonder book. Only trust their consoles nothing else. Glad I didn't buy one.

Sony has screwed up the psvr release so badly. They don't get enough hardware on the shelves and then don't support the hardware after the initial offerings. Why even release this thing?

I can't even....no idea where to begin.

1. PSVR is less than four months old.
2. PSVR had the best launch lineup of anything in years
3. PSVR was easily 30% of the Playstation experience on the floor.
4. PSVR is leading the VR hardware sales by a SIGNIFICANT margin.
5. PSVR adoption rate seems extraordinary if online enthusiasm is an indication.

Also, several big new titles have been announced for vr 2017...

...but wait, the big titles that we know are finished or near finished haven't even hit yet.

Resident Evil 7 is in two weeks. Ace Combat, Golem, Farpoint...none of these are far behind.

The amount of early support for this platform has been extraordinary. And this is just the beginning. Communication with Sony has been transparent and informative. We have a blog that updates us on new releases. A section in the online store just for VR, including it's own front page carousel. Kinect never had that level of support. Oculus was so bad at communicating, it didn't even tell its backers when they would get their hardware.

Not only is PSVR fine, it's proving so far that it's NOT a vita.

And for the record, I didn't even LIKE the vita but i have to commend sony for keeping it in the conversation as long as it has. More, even though they don't develop AAA games for the platform anymore, at least the streaming thing works and is supported by most releases. Vita TV? That's another story.

PSVR, though...?

People. Need. To. Stop. Overreacting.

There are only 2 upcoming Playstation VR games (not counting experience) with a confirmed release date: Resident Evil 7 and Star Trek, and I believe there's no PSVR game released in the past 2 or 3 weeks. Sony London got hit with lay off, Evolution closed before Driveclub VR got released, Guerrilla Cambridge got shuttered. I can't say this is assuring in any way for a new platform...

But Studio London have been hiring new staff and Manchester are working on VR games.

People need to look at the VR Catalog on the PS Store. For only being released a few months ago it has a fantastic lineup thus far, and there's plenty of big titles like Golum and Farpoint still in the pipeline.

Warewolves Within is the game that really sold me on VR gaming providing an experience you just can't replicate with a normal setup.

I don't think anyone is or would argue that it wasn't a good launch (despite delays of some of the games / patches in the OP).

People are just concerned about the future, given the known releases and these "vaporware" titles.

I remember people on here throwing around the number 230 for games that were in development for the PSVR. Not just once or twice but quite a number of times.

Not sure why Sony deserved more benefit of the doubt when every game is subject to the same market forces that determine it just isn't worthwhile to continue development. We all witnessed the Vita after all, and you'd think people would be a little more cautious than to blindly put all their faith into Sony once again and again and again.

I'm a PSVR owner, and I have to say that I find this to be really shitty news.

RE7 was really the main reason I bought the unit, and I am not sure that I see anything compelling on the horizon besides possibly Bridge Commander.

Starting to doubt that PSVR was a good purchase... I feel like Sony lied to us.

There's been quite a steady stream of new releases since launch, albeit mostly small games. Some games aren't properly categorized or marked on the store as PSVR compatible(Rollercoaster Dreams) though, so I wouldn't know if War Thunder had been updated or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if a number of games get announced, then unannounced when the devs can't quite get the performance or controls good enough. Wasn't Project Cars and Assetto Corsa also announced as getting PSVR support?

Hardware launches are always like this though. If you can't make the launch, then there's no need to rush.

As a PSVR owner I'm honestly not worried about it. I had never heard of any of the titles posted in the OP to begin with.

If a big release like Farpoint got canceled then I would start to have some concern, but Dirt Rally announcing VR DLC has me more excited than anything.

Maybe Sony is slowing down the 10 min shitty VR mode addon games? Until more games come out Resident evil comes out next month.

Starting next week and for the next 8 weeks there are alot of big games coming out. Maybe move some games out of the 1st quarter?

The platform itself is being more increasingly vaporware as Sony continues to not ship more units to retail since mid November.

What the heck are they doing with this peripheral that they are so gun-shy with production? No confidence?

How many units of PSVR have sold?
How many games have been bought by PSVR owners specifically for VR?

These two will justify the output.

The only problem is that the PSVR pretty much sold out and the moment they are back in stock it's in the middle of the night and they sell out again.

So the adoption rate has been slow because of manufacturing has been slow.

Personally I bought 1 dedicated VR game, then 2 games with VR support. I'm waiting for a 1-2 of the games to go on sale, and I'm contemplating whether I should pick up RE:7 up next week.

Granted Sony has been dead silent on VR right now. I would love to buy more games, but not every VR game is guaranteed to interest me. :/

Also still sold out everywhere in Japan. There was a new shipment around Christmas, sold out instantly. Another is coming on the 26th, I expect that too will sell out instantly (or will be made available through a lottery system in some stores as has been done previously).

But yeah, I don't see much compelling content on the horizon.

The only confirmed titles in the next 8 weeks are RE7 (Jan), Headbutt Factory (end of Jan) and if we are lucky, Dying Reborn in Feb too.

There are some vague Q1 2017 titles but most if not all of them are indie titles (GNOG, Lost Cave, Neptune Flux,Radial G) rather than big titles too. The highest profile in the near future after RE7 is Psychonauts, if we are still getting it.

Farpoint and Ace Combat 7 doesn't have release date, they may even be releasing late 2017

That's why they secured exclusivity for a year on PSVR for RE7. Which is a big title across all of VR and they are lessening the impact of it by doing so.

PSVR has a better launch/post launch line up than Nintendos next console/handheld release. I own the thing, and I really don't see a problem yet, should we expect a major release every Tuesday?

Honestly, I'd love more VR titles, they are great. The device works, the experience so far on my end has been nothing shy of amazing. I'll be buying Resident Evil 7 (a title I likely would have skipped or watched elsewhere, just to play it in VR). Star Trek is coming, Farpoint, Dirty Rally, Star Blood Arena, not to mention indies and ports from PC.

Shu just posted something PSVR related on his twitter like yesterday I think. They can't keep the thing in stock, I've heard nothing but positive reviews (anecdotally, but whatever). It seems the doom and gloom crew consists of a lot of people who don't even own the thing.

This thread is about the future lineup though.

The lack of major PSVR announcements at PSX felt very telling to me. It does feel like Sony was willing to give this thing an enthusiastic push when it VR was a trendy buzzword, but is less willing to put in the work once market realities set in.

Which makes sense from the investor perspective. If you're investing in VR back in 2015, you're doing bleeding edge tech work. If you're investing in it in 2017, you're making software for a peripheral that has a way lower install base than your main console.

They just announced Darknet is coming to the platform on the blog hours ago. We still have Ark Park coming, Farpoint, Star Trek, Starblood Arena, Fantastic Contraptions, Schell Games have said they are working on an expansion for IEYTD, Ace Combat 7, Dirt Rally, Golem, Gnog, Dreams, Stifled, Unearthing Mars, polybius, Apollo 11, Megaton Rainfall (unsure of release date on this one), Unknown Fate, V! "What Did I Do To Deserve This My Lord, R", Syren, Arizona Sunshine, Dino Frontier, Unearthed Inc The Lost Temple.

I'm sure there are more.

Remember how every launch was like wow boom look at these launch games! Times are sooooooo great!

And then shit doesnt come out for months. Every time.

If Serious Sam VR and Ace Combat 7 make it, I'd be happy. It's a wonder Sony didn't try to tie up Minecraft VR or KillZone/Resistance VR. The platform has a lot of party and single player potential.

TrinusVR might singlehandedly save my PSVR purchase, but I'm willing to wait til E3 to see what Sony has coming.

I have no proof but VR does seem to be dead. In it's current incarnation it's bulky and the tracking just isn't there. The last time I used it was when I dog-and-pony'd it to guests at a holiday party at my house last month. Haven't had any reasons to use it since launch.

Wish they'd bring more things like live sports and concerts to PSVR already.

I already know about Darknet and the games you mentioned (Unknown Fate isn't schedule for PSVR though). But these games you mentioned (except GNOG) are no where in the horizon, considering we don't have release dates for them.

Actually, nevermind.

VR output has more or less been a drip feed across the board. nobody's really making money off it. that said i'm still fairly hopeful for the near future

yeah I'm not saying there is anythin comparable to Zelda either (but then Zelda isn't exclusive to the switch either)

and I was just posting games slated for 2017 release, didn't know we were only looking at the immediate, sorry. Also, apologies for unknown fate, I saw it was coming to ps4 and assumed vr.
