Is Altamont this first thing I'm supposed to think of when I hear about this? Because it sure seems impossible not to.Also, please be aware that a gang of biker thugs will be providing security for the inauguration; they are officially sponsored by Trump. So try to be safe.
I would like to see Trump supporters defending this shit.

Damn, some of y'all still don't understand how protests work at all
Which is fine for conservatives, as it's not a tool they use as often, but if GAF is assumed to largely lean left, it's always a little disheartening to replies like "nothing's happened yet, want are you protesting", 'it won't make a difference" etc
Grateful to not feel so hopeless, see some of you on Saturday
Half of American's didn't even feel compelled to vote, the levels of political apathy is incredible right now.

You're not wrong there, but was the figure that far off of prior elections? I thought we usually saw somewhere like 40 something % not voting on average
I do hope that all of the anti-protest people in here were so vocal in 08 and 12 when people were burning crosses and stringing up racist characitures of Obama
Will be going with the wife and a friend to the Women's March in DC. Pretty nervous since it's my first protest.
Work and family obligations will keep me out of protests of Friday, but a group of local women are hosting a sign making party for the Women's March on Saturday (which I will be attending).
People say protests won't do shit, but I have already seen it mobilize groups of young people who were previously rather apathetic. They are now attending protests, meeting people who have been active and engaged, sharing ideas, calling their congressmen. If only a fraction stick with it, it will be a good thing.

Good luck. I am hoping the entire thing will be incident less. I also hope getting into the city won't be as bad as I fear.Same here, going with my Mom! Not really sure what to expect but I'm glad I get to do something to show my disagreement with Trump.
I think many people in this thread are too caught up in protests being used as a means to make a direct change in a system that will happen immediately (Government, School, Corporation, etc.).
Mass protests such as the Trump Inauguration are done by a big population of people to voice their disapproval of a situation, and there are multiple protests that continue on after the first initial one.
I don't think the vast majority of the people protesting are expecting that this one protest will realistically change the outcome of the election results. Perhaps there are a few people that think that, and they honestly need a reality check.
But this protest will undoubtedly raise awareness for others, get people politically active outside of their comfort zone, send a message to those in power, and so on.
They might even change policies in our political system depending on how aggressive and constant certain protesting is. Mass protests such as these often have a domino effect in our society, and that's why they are important.
Why didn't you create a separate thread?
I've never created a thread before, didn't feel like just for this.
You could hire someone to march on your behalf. Everyone's doing it
Just got in to D.C. to attend the Women's March.
I think I'm going to skip the inauguration though... I dunno just seems more likely to get heated. I'd also like it if like no one showed up at all
Sorry this is off-topic.
Did anybody hear early this morning that two B-2 stealth bombers struck ISIS training camps in Libya last night? This is thought to probably be Obama's final military action of his presidency.
Did a search, nobody here mentioned it from what I see.

So make a thread...da fuckI've never created a thread before, didn't feel like just for this.
Supposed to rain tomorrow here in DC, too. Saturday ought to be a great weather day for protest.
So make a thread...da fuck
Anyways, people who don't understand protests are an interesting breed ya know?
Oh man, I hope there's a downpour during the inauguration
Loony Trump-supporting friend of mine thinks it's anti-american and anti-democratic. Some people.

citation needed because i know you're not joking
Didn't even think of that. That is awful enough to totally happen. But I swear to God, if I hear that he does the 'you're fired' gesture to Obama, I'm going to flip out.

I'm teaching an 8th grade social studies class today. 😂
We're watching the Inauguration, which means I have to watch it 😩
Gotta show the kids the exact moment the country is being destroyed live though. It'll be historical.Uh, you're the teacher. You aren't required to show it.
America? Have the pricks completely forgotten about their own Tea Party movement?AMERICA WAS BUILT ON PROTESTING JESUS CHRIST
