Damn, some of y'all still don't understand how protests work at all

Which is fine for conservatives, as it's not a tool they use as often, but if GAF is assumed to largely lean left, it's always a little disheartening to replies like "nothing's happened yet, want are you protesting", 'it won't make a difference" etc

Grateful to not feel so hopeless, see some of you on Saturday

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'

Half of American's didn't even feel compelled to vote, the levels of political apathy is incredible right now.

That's because a lot of people have gotten a little too comfortable. A world of shit has to hit them before they get off their lazy asses.

You're not wrong there, but was the figure that far off of prior elections? I thought we usually saw somewhere like 40 something % not voting on average

I'm going to the local Women's March, even though I have a lot of side eye about the people planning it. Solidarity is too important right now.

The problem is that people couldn't even be arsed to go out and vote against a fascist, racist, and sexist pig.

I do hope that all of the anti-protest people in here were so vocal in 08 and 12 when people were burning crosses and stringing up racist characitures of Obama

Work and family obligations will keep me out of protests of Friday, but a group of local women are hosting a sign making party for the Women's March on Saturday (which I will be attending).

People say protests won't do shit, but I have already seen it mobilize groups of young people who were previously rather apathetic. They are now attending protests, meeting people who have been active and engaged, sharing ideas, calling their congressmen. If only a fraction stick with it, it will be a good thing.

But, but Trump hasn't done anything yet!!!!

Didn't stop them from protesting saying Obama was going to take all the guns and send everyone to FEMA concentration camps.

Y'know, actual bullshit. Unlike the things Trump has already set into motion that are incredibly disagreeable.

Yeah, if protests were ineffective, the right wouldn't be so dead-set on discrediting them as violet riots put instigated by pot-smoking hippies and racist black people paid by George Soros.

Same here, going with my Mom! Not really sure what to expect but I'm glad I get to do something to show my disagreement with Trump.
Good luck. I am hoping the entire thing will be incident less. I also hope getting into the city won't be as bad as I fear.

Not in DC but I for damn sure would have called out work and went to scream at the top of my lungs.

Stay safe everyone going out tomorrow! I can only imagine how disgustingly smug and empowered his supporters are going to be.

I think many people in this thread are too caught up in protests being used as a means to make a direct change in a system that will happen immediately (Government, School, Corporation, etc.).
Mass protests such as the Trump Inauguration are done by a big population of people to voice their disapproval of a situation, and there are multiple protests that continue on after the first initial one.

I don't think the vast majority of the people protesting are expecting that this one protest will realistically change the outcome of the election results. Perhaps there are a few people that think that, and they honestly need a reality check.
But this protest will undoubtedly raise awareness for others, get people politically active outside of their comfort zone, send a message to those in power, and so on.
They might even change policies in our political system depending on how aggressive and constant certain protesting is. Mass protests such as these often have a domino effect in our society, and that's why they are important.

yep. great post.

there's far too many people who like to 'lol good luck' while contributing nothing of their own outside of such comments. these people are outside taking action and fighting for something they believe in

raising awareness alone is huge, regardless of any instantaneous impact

So yeah... there's over 70k people now registered for the Boston Women's March on Saturday. Definitely not going with that crowd. Going to throw a few bucks their way though to help pay for it. I definitely support it, but I know I'll have an anxiety attack with so many people packed in there if I go. It seems like most/all of my coworkers are going (social justice org) but I just know I'd be a disaster waiting to happen if I went. I don't think the T is running extra trains either, and will have the normal reduced weekend schedule. Cluster. Fuck.

Sister in law is on a train to DC as we speak. She's sitting across from a nitwit with a MAGA hat.

I've never created a thread before, didn't feel like just for this.

It's completely off-topic and inappropriate in this thread.

Just got in to D.C. to attend the Women's March.

I think I'm going to skip the inauguration though... I dunno just seems more likely to get heated. I'd also like it if like no one showed up at all :p

Supposed to rain tomorrow here in DC, too. Saturday ought to be a great weather day for protest.

Sorry this is off-topic.

Did anybody hear early this morning that two B-2 stealth bombers struck ISIS training camps in Libya last night? This is thought to probably be Obama's final military action of his presidency.

Did a search, nobody here mentioned it from what I see.

The local news just showed footage of Trump saying today that his son in law will bring peace to the middle east.
