It's quite obvious now why there was no DLC for Dirt Rally..........

Well, yeah. But thats unrelated to my point. I want sim rally focused dlc for dirt 4. Whether i get that or nlt is another story

I know Dirt Rally was more of a sim but I didn't have as much fun with it as I did with Dirt 3. Hope Dirt 4 is a worthy successor.

A Codemasters dev on reddit suggested that the sim mode is much more involved this time around, which should hopefully ease some fears for everyone who loved the handling in Rally.

Oh wow, if true this will be amazing. Would be nice for this to appeal to all fans.

History has shown that when you try to have broad appeal you satisfy noone. I really wish codies embraced dirt rally OR dirt 4. Both series ate terrific for different audiences. Its the combinatiin thats likely to water down both. Hope im wrong here...

I have no interest in a 2D racing game, so hopefully they sort it out. Won't even pay attention to this until then.

Same. I just don't want to play any racing games on my TV screen (my PC is hooked up to it) anymore. Especially for drifting in a racing game, it's just a) so much more fun and b) that much controllable in VR. I've obliterated my old personal bests (set on TV) in Dirt Rally's shorter tracks by 15 seconds on the second try in VR.

This better be actually better than DiRT Rally then. If it is, then the game is a must-purchase.

If they end up killing all the goodwill though.. :/

I get the feeling that DiRT Rally was used to test the waters and see whether people actually wanted a hardcore rally sim. Now they've got their answer it looks like they're interpreting it into their mainline series while giving people a choice to appeal to more fans, including the casual ones.

Yeah for sure, but it's also so that racing games that attempt to have both simulator and arcade handling models end up doing both kinda wrong.

We'll see. I hope it's good because DiRT Rally is flatout the best rally game since RBR.

G27 support on PS4 please

It won't happen, stop asking for it..

I was hoping for DiRT Rally 2, but since this game will feature an Evo VI... it makes it an insta-buy.

Nice. Out of no where. Dirt Rally was a true return to form. Let's hope that handling/physics carry over to Dirt 4. If we get that Rally driving feel + infinite stage creator...oh man.

Day one if it has VR support on PC, if not it's a bargain bin buy for me, if at all.

I don't know if their VR support for Dirt Rally will mean that this release will feature it as well. It's going to be interesting to see whether AAA racing games will continue to support VR or drop it. And I don't want to see anymore exclusivity regarding VR. A PSVR exclusive would be somewhat of a kick in the teeth.

Wait and see, I guess. It's not in the announcement page or in the feature list reported by gamereactor, so that's really not a good sign.

Sadly I will also be the same but no bargain bin for me. This is one of the few genres that VR has made very hard to go back to. I'd happily wait or pay for a VR DLC like they have done with Dirt Rally on PSVR though I'd prefer it at launch.

Those expecting anything close to the physics of dirt rally are in for serious disappointment.

Codemasters always do this, they have something amazing then shit on it from a great height.

So what about this quote?

If you loved the challenge of DiRT Rally, then you can switch to the Sim Handling mode and have an experience that is even closer to the real deal than we managed to achieve with DiRT Rally.

Lies?

I just wanted Dirt Rally 2, but if it's Dirt that's more in line (or better) than Dirt Rally, then okay. My standards and expectations from Codemasters are still set low, as always. Dirt Rally was a great surprise, I'll let this surprise me as well.

I'm in two minds on this. As much as I love Dirt Rally's handling, I've been hoping Codemasters would come out with a sequel to Dirt 3. Seriously in my top 3 racers from last gen. A more arcade like Dirt game would be more than welcome for me.

I guess I'm one of the few who actually liked gymkhana, stunting and pretty much all of Dirt 3. Fantastic game that was.

Save the sim handling for Dirt Rally 2.

I hope that they can manage both sets of expectations with dirt 4, but i cant help but think we'd all be better off if codies embraced each style for each series and alternated releases between the arcadey "dirt" series and the sim "rally" one.

This sounds ideal. I also believe that trying to design the game to cater to both audiences only serves to disappoint everyone. That's how you end up with Need For Speed..

Were the previous dirt games on console 30 fps (I know dirt rally was 60 fps, but I am talking about the mainline games)? If so have they started what hey are targeting in this new game?

Well, I really wanted DLC or an expansion to DIRT Rally but I guess that got skipped?

Also wanted them to do Trucks and Buggys one day so this is it.

Hopefully they retain the feel of RALLY because that was amazing and I don't want an arcade game. I know they they say they will let you do sim but let's see how it works first.

I really liked Dirt 3 (minus the gymkhana shit and the landrush stuff got a bit tedious too), didn't mind the arcady handling, but a little too easy for me as a result.

I really liked Dirt Rally, still do, still play it! Sim handling means I'm constantly on edge and makes me feel like such a boss when I pull off a positive sector on a stage.

Both games are great in their own right. Codie's sound design is second to none as well, so Dirt 4 will have that going for it. If they say they're including both handling types, its almost two games in one. But the execution needs to be spot on for the sim side of things.

either way - day one for me!
