PS4 firmware 4.50 add Boost Mode for PS4 Pro.

So far from what I've collected from this thread both SOMA and Resident Evil Revelations 2 crash with it turned on.
RE-R2's framerate problems on PS4 always baffled me, was it intentionally gimped on PS4 or simply a badly coded PS4 version. The XB1 run this game better than PS4 at the same resolution, that's unheard of, even after they patched it, performance still did not close the XB1 version, even stranger, something is off with this game and it's coding on PS4. No wonder it's crashing..


SOMA's performance was always head scratching too............



As an aside, I wish we would get a framerate unlock for Remake and 0 on the PS4.......Alien Isolation needs a full on pro patch with 2160p checkerboarding to implement the TAA algo inherent with the process....a simple framerate unlock will still maintain the jagfest.

First time I feel ripped of by Sony

I picked up a ps4 slim in december, just because ps4 pro lacked this mode

This should have been announced on release, really frustrating

You cheaped out over $100. The Pro was a no-brainer even back then if you didn't have a PS4 already.

I wonder if it will do anything for Perosna 5. It has no Pro patch and it's a game that could easily run in 60FPS on the Pro but I don't think the framerate is unlocked.

Atlus please make Persona 5 4K 60FPS HDR patch for the Pro

Also anything on Dark Souls 3?

Well game engines that are written at a very low level would be more susceptible to variations in CPU clockspeed than GPU clock speed in terms of errant behaviour.

Xbox One S runs games abit faster already then a normal Xbox One because of the slighty better CPU.
Not correct, the One S only has a 7% higher clocked GPU. The CPU part remains the same, as does the memory bandwidth.

That said, I wonder if boost mode profits from the higher memory speed, it isn't mentioned but sounds logical to utilize.

I was waiting for a PS4 Pro Slim...but this god damn boost mode is making me re-think my waiting!

Bloodborne performance was fine mostly all around in the first place.
It's just the frame pacing coding which was bad.
In chalice dungeons the frame rate can struggle at parts though

It is false because you were discussing architectural differences and the number of building blocks does not change the architecture. The new instructions and hardware features do so you should have talked about those, not the fact it has higher clock speeds and double the CUs.

Well, as should be pretty evident with a vast majority of what's happened this console generation, Sony is doing just fine not worrying too much about what Microsoft is doing.

If anything, Sony would be dumb to ignore what the competition is doing, they still remember last gen.
And Sony is not dumb this gen, not in the slightest.

Its so easy to get excited about games that could benefit from this, only to realise the 'boost' has already gone into resolution/ more demanding effects in an already released pro patch :/
This is one of the reasons why physical is better. You can just play without patches.

While that's absolutely true(and not just for Sony) - the timing of this does suggest it had little to do with competition.
With the supply issues they had there was no reason to add features to make Pro more "attractive". More importantly - establishing the precedent for Pro Enhanced games before passing it on to the rest of library mattered, as otherwise they might end up with publishers doing little but toggle the "pro" flag for performance and call it a day.
And obviously taking the time to test the impact on the library makes more sense than rushing a potentially broken feature - last thing you want is your new/premium machine to be labeled "partially BC" (PS2 got dangerously close to that once).

I give Sony lots of shit, I'll be the first to admit. They do some dumb shit at times and as someone who's been down since PS1 it can get frustrating. But this? This is awesome and completely deserving of all the adulation. Thank you. Think I'm most excited to boot back up TW3. Hoping GTAV received some enhancements as well.

Yup, Sony took us all by surprise with this! Probably the best gift they could have given PS4 Pro players. :)

Hoping GTAV received some enhancements as well.

It has, as mentioned on this page.

This sounds fantastic. Now we need system level downsampling.

Q: are all new games required to have PS4 pro benefits, or are they simply required to be PS4 pro compatible?
 
This sounds great, and good timing really as the new year starts, Pro is looking like a good purchase for people. So many games just not reaching solid 30 this gen, this will help a lot.
