Resident Evil 7 Spoiler Thread

Don't know if this has been asked, but, has anyone shot at granny Eveline just to see what would happen?

Am I the only one to see her spawn under the floor in the kitchen/dining area of the main house?

I went back under there later in the game for some reason on the first playthrough

**Just completed my speed run for the circular saw. Now going for madhouse and the whole map is seeming smaller as it becomes familiar. Enjoying knowing where I am and how to get around.

That spoiled the twist for me, shortly after you read that note you run into the wheelchair (with no one in it) and I was like "Oh..." The actual injection scene was still pretty good though. Maybe it wasn't that same file, but one said something along the lines of "Eveline looks a lot older at times"

IIRC there are two files that pretty much spell it out for you: one saying that subjects will age rapidly if not given treatment, and one of Lucas' messages to the third party ending with him asking why Eveline's looking so old and her hair's turning white.

Is the relationship of Ethan/Mia ever explained?

Game sets them up as some normal husband/wife.

Apparently Mia is some secret agent? Is there any more info on that? Did Ethan know? Is he also some kind of an agent? Are they working together?

Mia is some kind of secret agent, working for a company like Umbrella (called Tentsu). Ethan doesn't know, or at least Mia believes Ethan doesn't know, which is why she keeps apologizing for lying to him (she tells him she's just working as a babysitter). Which would mean they aren't working together.

Unless Ethan is hiding something he's just the husband of someone who's involved in a Resident Evil bioterrorism organization, and gets dragged into the events of the game because of it.

I couldn't attack her in anyway which lead me to believe from the first encounter she had something to do with how everything is all messed up.
Oh damn, at first I thought it was just a stupid game thing to not be able to shoot her, but it would make sense lore-wise, since she can control infected people.

Started my madhouse run last night.

That god damn Mia fight in the attic is pretty hard right? haha Jesus....

If you have the circular saw you can begin swinging it without looking at her and swipe it right across her

She appears to be invulnerable to such effects but it still counts as me hitting her with something in my head

Am I the only one who thought it was strange as fuck that Ethan gets knocked out by Jack, wakes up to find Zoe stapling his hand back on (...somehow), and then wakes up again at the dinner table?

Like, would the Bakers just let her take Ethan over to fix him up like that?

Top 5 list for me

Remake
Re7
Re4
Re2
Revelations 2

I hope re8 is first person again, really added to the tension. For those that prefer the action I really hope revelations 3 gets a huge boost in budget to satisfy that crowd, the mix of action and horror was perfect in 2.

I can't wait to see what the deal is with Redfield in the dlc, thank you again to the asshole in the main thread that ruined that huge surprise for me.

The way Ethan goes "What took you guys so long" at the end makes me think he's a bit more than that. And the Umbrella Corps radio chatter you pick up in the mine makes it sound like they know who he is at least.

The way they're super secretive about his face and all, I wonder if the third DLC in the Season pass is going to be some huge backstory on Ethan.

Can't really say that it was. The action was less than RE4-6 by a large margin.

Wasn't the 'what took you guys so long' bit more in relation to him attempting radio contact with them right before the salt mines bit?

Or counter-bioterrorism units being public knowledge in the Resident Evil universe. Chris and Co. were caught on camera in Resident Evil 6, for example.

So it could just be "You're the guys who deal with this sort of thing. What took you so long?".

I don't think that guy even removed that gif even though tons of people had pointed it out to him.
Ridiculous, I avoided every single spoiler but that one.

This was my interpretation of it, I think Ethan was a normal dude before the game.

I like to think both he and Mia work in Security fields, just with different employers.

If my wife said "I have to go somewhere to babysit for a few weeks" in her mid twenties I'd be a bit suspicious.

I find it more likely that when she says "babysitting" Ethan understands that it's a regular security escort job. She says that she's lying because she framed it as routine when it was actually high risk and top secret.

Ethan is clearly adept at shooting and has some steely nerves so I imagine he's seen some shit already.

I feel the opposite, actually. They all have a purpose for folks at that exact point in the game and, with the exception of the clancy one, never outstay their welcome. If there were any more tapes the entire game would no longer be a surprise and you'd know roughly the layout of the whole game before you got there.

Well that's kinda why I'm disappointed with them. They more or less amounted to a couple easy mode previews of upcoming areas, rather than exploring unique gameplay and story in bite sized optional chunks. I was hoping for stuff ala the Bedroom banned footage from the DLC. Or to play around with stuff like the clancy tape where if you unlock a drawer in the tape it would be unlocked irl.

He did eventually, after protesting he used a spoiler tag, failing to acknowledge mobiles. Also someone quoted it pages later, still visible, which didn't help.

Agreed. Rather than Tapes being a mechanic to tell puzzles before hand or areas. They should've explored more story of the characters. Videos of the bakers slowly descending to the madness would've been great.

The very last video of Ethan talking sounded like an ad, a pro umbrella one specifically. It felt to Happy, to upbeat, the music, the way he talked. Dunno felt shady.

Ethan's dialog is just weird in general, he isn't fazed by anything. Either it's just cheesy writing or he knows more than we think.

Yeah i found that pretty weird to be honest. I dont know if his dialog was just an afterthought or what, but he could almost be a silent protagonist for the most part. And like he hardly ever comments on finding himself in this insane situation, its practically "oh, an old woman shooting bugs out her ass. Neat."

I personally think that Ethan knew that Mia was a mercenary, or a bodyguard for higher. I think what she was lying about was that she was guarding "babysitting" a bioweapon. Mia also says during her initial fights with Ethan that he's been lying to her as well.

I also think there's absolutely no way it's a coincidence that Umbrella mysteriously waits three years until Ethan goes to the Baker plantation to also go there for "clean up". There are way too many coincidences in this narrative. I really hope Capcom doesn't wait until RE8 to expound upon Ethan and Mia's backstories.

I can't really argue with this. Two thumbs up from me good sir.

EDIT: Probably the order would be different in mine, but it's these 5 games for sure.

My top 5

Resi 2 (blew me away on ps1)
Resi 5 (can't get over how fun this was with my wife local co-op)
Resi 7
REmake
Resi 4

Slight variation to yours
Resident Evil has so much quality so it is hard for me to have a definitive 5, I picked revelations 2 over 5 because it was such a huge surprise at the quality of it, game came out of nowhere for me. But damn resident evil 5 is so much fun coop with your best bud. I hope revelations 3 has online coop because that was the only big problem I had with it.

Well, the police officer had been sent to investigate (seemingly the first), so that could coincide with the Umbrella Corps assessing the property. It might have only been brought to their attention when the police were informed.

I'm not sure I buy this. Jack comments about the officer being there before while you're tied up.

Beaten the game twice now and I'm currently doing a speed run on easy. I'm at the save room in the boat house getting ready to fight mutated Jack. My current time is 1:54, so I think I'm doing pretty good.

Got a question, though... What happens if you choose Zoe over Mia? Specifically, if you choose Zoe, does the wrecked tanker portion of the game change or do you still play through that portion as Mia? I saw a YouTube clip where a player chose to save Zoe and Mia was left on the dock. Or... do you play as Zoe on the tanker? Genuinely curious and I don't mind to be spoiled. Thanks!

You still play as Mia.

Aren't their photos taken by one of the Bakers of an Umbrella helicopter. "Are they watching us?" or something like that.

I see it like this: the Sewer Gators show crew show up to the house, which is supposedly haunted, and go missing. That puts the Baker household under suspicion and is reported to the police. That information gets into the hands of the Umbrella Corps, and they start surveying the area for strange activity, perhaps over several days preceding the events of the main game. The police begin their own investigation, including phonecalls to the residence and visits by the police officer.

I love how nobody has an answer for this because no-one knows and it makes zero sense.

Well, there's a chance that the dlc title "Not a Hero" is referring to Ethan.
Even if Mia cares for him,i think that she is a unscrupulous person for transporting a 12yo kid as a test subject just to develop more BOWs and not giving a fuck about it.

And he shouldn't be fazed by anything. It is the most irritating thing horror game can do. There is enough reaction to the world from Ethan imo.

The Bakers don't want him dead (at first), so yeah it makes sense they'd let her fix him up. What doesn't make sense is why he needs his hand stapled on when the magic cure juice can seamlessly reattach his severed leg.

It's not the juice that cures him. It's the mold virus.

I also assume the staples were needed as the hand was detached too long to be restored via the virus? Dead tissue and all.

That's a point

If Zoe staples his hand back on - when did she get a chance to sneak in and do it before he was taken for dinner but after he was welcomed to the family? Is she still part of the Bakers?

My wacky fan theory is that it's not his hand - it's Mia's bosses

I assumed Zoe was aware he'd been taken and snuck in at some point to re-attach his hand.

Granted, it doesn't explain how the hand got there (did Zoe go into the old house and grab it? Did Jack take it along for giggles?), but eh.
