Who uses this shitty service anyway?

Wow, what a bizarre decision. If anything, they should be continuing to expand the list of supported devices. PS Now is a pretty amazing service, especially if they continued to improve to speed up the initial load time to get into a game and reduce the input lag.

No. PS4 is too weak to emulate the PS3.
Shu said it's possible but would require a lot of work and is not something they're looking at. Not that it is not possible.
I actually see Sony trying this. To atleast some extent I want them to.
PS2 games are a bit dry well it's releases are pathetic and I know people are banging onto them regarding some ability to play older games
I can see them trying somehow to bring all 4 libraries together, especially for PS5 and it may start on PS4 before that.
That means adding PSone BC and relaunching both PS2 on PS4 as just PS2 BC and using PSnow as their PS3 BC delivery or something else entirely
I imagine PS5 would be able to do it natively for all 4 systems

Actually pretty pissed.... We bought a year of psnow so my kids could play on the vita tv just last month. This means well only get about 6 months worth out of it.

Can you remote play psnow titles from your PS4?

If they're doing this so they can bring the service to android and iOS I'm all for it.

Although it worked pretty good on Vita, the controls weren't always optimal. Playing on a tablet or phone with a DS4 would be great and I would subscribe.

But I won't be playing on my PS4 or PC, when I have PS4 games to play.

Bad move if they want a real streaming model.
So far PSNow has been a bad move for both Sony and customers
Good luck trying to convince customers to invest in the future
That service is dead.

Makes sense from a quality standpoint. That's a lot of wasted resources testing those extra models. I'd be interested in seeing the usage rate broken down by platform one day.

If only Sony had a dedicated TV box that could play PS Now games with a PS4 controller for under a hundred bucks. Even better if I could play PS1 games on it.

lol @ removing it from their entire Bravia range. Wasn't that a fundamental part of their pitch? PS games away from the console?

I think it is safe to say that PS Now isn't the success Sony intended or wanted it to be.

Well awesome! Spent extra money on a Samsung TV model last week that had bluetooth and a PSNow app over one the model that didn't, so that I could utilize the service on occasion for exclusive PS3 titles I had missed. At least I held off on buying the PS4 controller.

I'm 100% guessing before next year, they will phase out PS3 and Vita from PS+ and put in PS Now in its stead.

If you look at future economics, they may use it for PS4 as well. But with Data Caps and shit internet services being part of the problem, this may not bode well as a consistent solution to BC.

focusing on os support versus specific hardware support kind of makes more sense though.

don't many newer bravia tvs use android?

Welp, that just soured me on the whole thing. I tested this before on my PS4 and it was great for the number of games on it that my kids could play ( and me). Just got a Samsung TV and my plan was to subscribe to this. I don't trust that the service will be around much longer if they are pulling this move. I think this is a very big indicator that they will get rid of the service now. I don't see the sense in removing TV support otherwise. That's the one thing that makes sense with this type of service...

I can sort of understand dropping support for the PS3 (since you can just buy the games and play them locally) and the Vita (since Sony's completely given up on the format). Dropping support for everything else? Nonsense. I thought the long term plan was to increase the number of TVs that have Now built in, not scrap that entire enterprise for what appears to be no good reason.

Have fun with the damage control, not sure what your point is. Sure Sony has every right to do this, but why bother buying a product of theirs with these "selling point" features that they remove after they've got your money up front? This is a big middle finger to people who paid for these features.

It's cute you think this is going to "damage" Sony.

This is pretty surprising.

I've been running PSNow on my Vita pretty much flawlessly for about a year now and was telling a friend the other day that my Vita has basically an infinite life as long as Sony keeps streaming its games that way. Not sure why Sony would drop support... what's the difference between streaming games from the service to a PS3, Vita, PS4, PC etc etc?

It's like Netflix saying their shows no longer stream to ThinkPads, but it'll continue to work on MacBooks because reasons.

good thing this isnt a nintendo thread. Would have been on page 20 already.

Have you ever thought Nintendo gets more attention for anti consumer policies because people hold them to a higher standard? That's a good thing. It's shocking when we see a Nintendo paywall or day 1 DLC because we are used to not having to deal with that stuff.

When Now launched it seemed like Sony was trying to position it as a mass market product. Now it's clear it's actually a more niche audience and they are adjusting the business model accordingly.

The phrase "anti-consumer" is so overused on this forum.

PS4 and PC are niche platforms now folks.

Way to miss the point. People are likely to try something like PSNow are much more likely to be gamers, and much more likely to own a PS4 or gaming PC versus playing on a built in TV app. That kind of casual audience never bought into Now for a variety of reasons.

Thats not what hes saying at all. There are probably a fair amount of gamers especially on PS4 who use it to play PS3 games. There wasn't a market for folks interested in PS3 games on these other devices. Folks didn't want to stream games on their TV, if they wanted to play games on a TV they just went out and actually bought a PS4 to play PS4 games.

Still, they spent a -lot- of money on this tech and giving it up entirely this soon seems odd. It worked well for me but it was an odd solution to a problem that didn't actually exist. And yeah they need to give folks refunds for the months they aren't getting with this service, totally fucked up if they aren't refunding post August months people have paid for.
