First Horizon review [Engadget]

I really want everyone to know how much more Titanfall 2 sold than Nioh. It was a staggering amount.
For this reviewer, Horizon is better than DA,Skyrim and Witcher, amiright?

Wait she couldn't play through Skyrim or Witcher, but was able to play through Horizon.

Damn is it because the campaign was shorter? Or is there other reasons.

Anyway it seems like she liked it a lot.

I dont think the review actually gave her completed time

All she said concerning the hours is this:

I figured it would be the same with Horizon. I'd be intrigued by the futuristic world, my heart would pound with joy while watching the gorgeous trailers, but then I'd drop the game after playing for just a few hours. I'd hear reverent whispers about its 30-hour campaign and wonder how the hell anyone could get through it all. It would seem like too much.

But, with Horizon, 30 hours sounds like barely enough time. I wish it were 60 hours long. I wish it were an infinite MMO that I could live inside of for years to come. Finally, I understand open-world RPGs.

She did say she wanted to spend 60hours instead of 30. It's telling.

I know some of you will be disappointed, but 40-50 hours to 100% is pretty freaking good for their first RPG. They will get more confident like CDPR and make bigger games.

She says why. Good story, a very likable main character, and a unique world with compelling macro and micro mysteries that she wanted to solve

Read the review she states exactly why she was able to play through this open world RPG. Really great review and this should alleviate some concerns over the narrative of the game. It pretty much echos what most impressions are saying.

How awesome it is that the aspect that everyone thought it would be Horizon's biggest weakness (the story) is seemingly being the most praised by the people that got to play it already?

Shit. I made it 60 hours into Witcher 3 before putting it aside, never finished Skyrim, and rarely play games for more than 20 hours. My impressions of Horizon will be completely invalid now

It's like you intentionally ignored the part of my post where I said "for me".

I consider those two games to be two of the greatest games of the 21st century. I gravitate to reviewers who have similar gaming interests to me. As should every game.

How is it creepy? People like, and empathize with, likeable well-written characters

Also it wasn't a he

Nothing wrong with it. Maybe it was just how it was said; "Love hit me out of nowhere". My eyes perked up a little on that statement. I hope I find her just as likable as the reviewer.

The reviewer is a she if that makes it less creepy.

Ehh, yeah a little less but then it's also great that a woman liked her character. Some women will always have something to say about how they're designed in a game. Usually negative in their eyes.

Thats possibly the best kind of glowing review this game could have gotten for me.

It seems like Horizon is essentially a linear game like an Uncharted or Tombraider but uses its open world as a frame of reference to establish a sense of placeand this added sense of place gives the story purpose that elevates it from your typical set piece 3rd person action game.

Better still the Narative seems to be fresh with purpose and to have an oppion on its subject matter.

This is very exciting. Congrats GG. You deserve this

That review was glowing. Deadly.

This makes no sense, it is still open and you can wander and explore in nay direction.

Very actually. Even the sidequests are apparently on point, so pretty much my main two concerns seem like they'll be alleviated.

25-30 hours is perfection. That's what Watch Dogs 2 was (main campaign) and for me that ended juuuust as it was getting stale. If it was 40 hours I probably wouldn't have beaten it or it would have left a sour taste in my mouth.

I mean, Witcher 3 is one of my favorite games of all time. A reviewer who didn't really like it is probably not quite going to share my taste in video games.

Seems fair to dismiss the review for one personally

I think she meant she heard it before she played the game, but then states that 30 hours isn't enough, not quite sure though.
It's pretty clear what she was saying. It's like when I heard that Witcher 3 was like 100 damn hours, and put it off for months because I never finish long games, and yet somehow I played it for 60 because I loved the world and stories so much

She didn't say she didn't like it. She said they don't hold her attention for long. I'm the same way. I absolutely love games like that and I never finish them

She didn't dislike Witcher 3, she said she simply couldn't make it through open world RPGs until this one.

Considering the broken embargo and the ludicrously high praise, it really does read like a paid review, lol.

I don't believe for one second that it is, and I think Horizon will be fantastic and review excellently, but that's the humorous appearance of this slip-up.

Honestly guys it makes absolutely no sense for this to be a paid review slip up or whatever. The embargo is up in a couple of days and 8 days before the game releases. It would be just a tad fishy if the embargo was up a day before release or day of.

Yep. Also, a 30-40 game is A LOT easier to get through than a 100+ hour game like TW3 for most people. Hell, I know people who LOVE TW3 but have never finished it due to how massive it is.

True. I consider it to be one of the best games ever made, and yet it took me a year to finally get to beating it. Hell, I beat it a month ago lmfao

she also said she played quick games like MOBAS

so this was likely a gateway for her to RPGs

Yes I couldn't get through the Witcher either. I just can't get through 100+ hours. I know it's not confirmed but I'd be good with 25-30.

I've only played one game for more than 30 hours and that was Witcher 3. I hope Horizon is the second

I won't lie, part of that had to do with Witcher's combat. Like FFXV and GR2 are recent games I played where I ended up putting up far, far more than 50+ hours in each of them. Yet I beat them within weeks, because well... I found it more enjoyable to play generally speaking.

I don't think Engadget is an outlet that really sets the trend for reviews in general. Their bread and butter is hardware not software. This means very little in determining what the overall score will be.

It means alot as Engadget and the Verge only commentate if the game is super hype or if its really good. And according to Gaf hype was meh.
