A Nintendo Switch has been taken apart

Nope. Better draw distance. Different lighting. Higher resolutions textures. Actually some of the textures aren't even the same as the wiiu version.

You're comparing a recent build of the Switch Zelda to a really old build of the Wii U Zelda, until we have launch code we can't do a proper comparison.

That's clearly a J and not an L.

Also, would a Chinese refer to a Latin letter to describe shape?

The guy nails things like battery capacities that a person without access to the hardware would never know, and you're literally splitting hairs on J vs L? Maybe because English is usually a compulsory foreign language class in many other countries and the fact that they see English letters on the products they fabricate day after day?

LMAO come on now.

This philosophical question just hit me and it's more of a curiosity. If somebody writing in a different alphabet refer another alphabet to describe shapes? I find it fascinating if true.

I was really talking about the sink, its a common design: http://www.machinaelectronics.com/store/buypart/Sony_Vaio_VGN-FE/NBT-CPMS1X-L

And its commonly referred to as an L or L-bracket sink. Who cares what it looks like, and someone who commonly works with these parts would call it an L regardless of their language (and english is largely universal, so... why would it even really matter?). Its not like he gave a German name.

If you would have followed the discussion I already said that I believe the guy had access and saw the Switch. So take your "fuck outta here" and keep it to yourself (yes, I saw the edit).

Umm we know the cores from the official sdk leak. A57s

The SDK documents were dated for July of 2016. The Foxconn leak came out late October of 2016. So, assuming the Foxconn info is correct, which I'm fairly sure it is now, it would supersede what's mentioned in the SDK documents.

The original text was in Chinese, wasn't it?

English is a pretty common secondary/alternate language for the majority of countries that don't speak it primarily. If you're traveling around Asia you'll usually see signs on public transportation in the native language and english, if there is another language printed

How is that even remotely the same? The Pro has very reasonable performance for a $400 home console released in 2016 (just as the original did in 2013). The Switch has abysmal performance for a $300 home console in 2017, IF that's what you view it as. Viewed as the handheld it really is it's more impressive. But some people don't want a handheld (dockable or not).

But I view it as a home console I can take on the go. Something which didnt exist before and so I cant compare it to anything else. If it would be JUST a home console, yeah then it would be a true disaster. But as an portable home console it is very strong and when you look at the size of it rather impressive.

I'm not talking about English though. I'm talking about alphabet/writing. I'm sure you're aware about the existence of different writing, yeah?

A writing in which "L" doesn't exist.

What's the point of these teardowns? Do they put the device back together again? If not this is similar to the cell phone drop tests. If so, what a waste of tech.

Yes

And what if that guy only saw the components, a non assembled Switch and the heatpipe was lying on its back?

The original text was in Chinese, wasn't it?

The Chinese language isn't alphabet based, it's based on characters.

To show us what the company won't. It does make me wonder if it can be disassembled without breaking it though.

Im pretty sure they break chinese to just use the english L like you see when the title of a console or game is brought up. either that or they have a phrase or something dedicated for it.

Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out, but the re-translated Foxconn leak said this:

Now, take a look at the heatsink, fan, and fins:

In addition to everything else the Foxconn leak had correct, I just can't see any way that this observation in particular was a wild guess. I'm now fully convinced that the Foxconn leak was 100% correct, which means we're currently looking at a Pascal chip X1 chip, likely using 4 A72 cores, and will be seeing a more powerful dock for 4K gaming later on.

The Foxcon leaker didnt know if its A57 or A72/A73, that part was guessed. He only knew that it was ARMv8. I think the Pascal/16nm thing was also guessed.`But the clocks are interesting.

Nice piece of tech.

Anyone know if that 1500 battery is possibly upgradeable?

Where would you find the space? Unless they can shrink the chips and everything even further there's nowhere to add more battery. That's why if they do shrink the chips and whatnot we won't be getting a smaller Switch, it'll be the same size but a bigger battery.

I'm not sure about the second bit, but he clearly says the L is placed upside down. Something with 2 sides, one longer then the other and forming a right angle (smooth or not) is often referred to as L-shaped, regardless of orientation.

Can I say rekd? I'm gonna say rekd.

Love seeing dissections like this. Be interesting to see how it compares to early rumoured leaks.

The phonecian alphabet uses simple characters like L H X S Z T Y U O that not only describe characters but also basic shapes.

You want people to describe electronics shapes with this 汉字?

Come on.... :/

I still don't think it will be pascal and even if it is it is not suddenly going to make the switch competitive power wise with the ps4/xb1

we have seen what the console can do already. it cannot even run zelda at 1080p, a game which has likely been finished for months so they have had a lot of time to tweak and optimise. and that is still absolutely fine. it is a killer handheld.

FWIW, the reddit thread about this says that the person who leaked the photos specified that this wasn't a retail unit. I'm not sure that changes anything in terms of hardware speculation, but it is what it is.
