My advice? Learn meta characters and get good enough with them until you can basically make up for your team's shortcomings. I mostly mained Soldier 76, Roadhog and Ana this season. As soon as the matches started I would insta lock Soldier and if two other people picked DPS I would switch to one of the other two, depending on what was needed. It worked pretty well.

What rank? If you're good, you'll climb. I got placed 31 in S1 and solo-climbed to 59.

Similar for me. I lock Zarya, if tanks are already filled, I switch to Ana, if healers are also already filled, I switch to a DPS of the team's choosing.

Torb just isn't a good pick on attack or KOTH, nearly any other hero played effectively will be better. The bullshit will fly in QP because nobody is really trying, though, which is alright because QP is just for mindless fun.

The amount of one-trick smurf accounts I see on PS4 is hilarious. Today alone I've run into Wadowmaker, Pro_Widow_Smr, Top500Roadhog, SombraBoops, and so on. OneTrickSombra takes the cake, though.

Is it though?

At this point, I feel I never has as little fun with the game as I do in QP. There's no fun to being steamrolled because people want to try widowmaker. And I know this is true even when I'm the jerk whose playing the worthless hero. Even if I start into the game with the mindset of 'losing doesn't matter', I still want to win. And failing that, I don't want to be slaughtered outside our spawn because the enemy team counters us THAT hard.

Mystery heroes is mindless fun because it spreads randomness and frivolity evenly between players. Elimination is fun because some heroes might have clearly higher utility than others, but it's too short to be a huge time sink.

I don't know what QP is.

Yah, I feel you. I hate losing, too. That's why I (mostly) only play competitive unless I'm warming up. I'm honestly excited for the new server browser just so I can join endless skirmish games. I think that'll be a good "I just wanna BS" game mode.

I had a weird match where my team couldn't make stuff happen on attack, and I picked Torb. I put the turret in an offensive sniper position that kept it safe but let it apply pressure to Rein's shield. It felt effective and we ended up pushing through for the first time.

Maybe it's just because I play with lowbies, but I kind of want to try attack Torb more often.

When the fucking DPS on your team just let the enemy Pharah SHIT on you for the entire fucking game. I swear this game makes me want to kill people through the monitor.

Eh, it's not that simple anymore. A well supported pharah can be very hard to take down if your DPS isn't supported well too. No use just placing the blame solely on the dps.

If I'm ana or zen and I can't help my team take down pharah I'm to blame too.

I find Pharah to be the most annoying hero in the game. Sure Hog has a death combo, but you can deal with him.

Good Pharah players that get good support are terribly hard to counter if you're a bad shot.

I now know the terror that Pharahs are. I've won the last 4 matches playing Pharah and dominating. I dominated so much I even had a Phamercy combo go double hitscan to deal with me and I still wasn't that bothered by it.

Overwatch is the first game I've gotten into that has season content/events. My question is, do games that have them keep doing the same events every year or do they add new stuff? I'm wondering what we can expect when last years events roll around again.

New skins/emotes etc.. They are releasing new heroes/maps every few months so you can look forward to that too.

Lol I think I ran into this Wadowmaker guy.

It's funny because sometimes I enter a match with 2,3 and even 4 star guys and then see a single level 22 guy. Even without the obvious usernames they're easy to spot.

Note: This advice obviously doesn't apply to anyone in master and GM.

You don't really need a meta character to play at a decent (meaning at least plat) level, even on solo queue. Just make sensible choices based on your team's comp, and at least make sure it's a character that you can actually play. This means that you should practice playing decently with multiple characters in dps/tank/support classes. Insta-locking meta characters are only meaningful if you can play them. I've seen insta-lock Roadhogs who couldn't hook someone to save his life.

edit: The main takeaway is that you should learn more heroes, and you should practice more with them. Even though QP is a less than ideal situation, you can still practice positioning, making shots, staying alive, maximizing your skills and ults etc. All these translate to being a better player (and thus better overall experience) in comp.

Kind of related(or unrelated).. I think but Ive played with/against Masters/Grandmasters that got me scratching my head as to how they made it where they did. So any advice is good for anyone lol

The one thing that stands out the most is the lack of situational awareness, that I see more times than I should at the Master level. I dont feel like Im anything special at the game but at least I know enough about positioning to know when/how to avoid getting caught in bad situations.

The one map that it happens more often times than not is on Volskaya. I cant tell you how many times a Pharah has snuck up on my defending team while our soldier is right under the choke point and then gets picked by said Pharah and we get steam rolled.

When Im on defense and our Soldier positions himself at an elevated position I know we are going to put up a fight. Then on attack what drives me absolutely insane on Volskaya is the inability to comprehend that pushing directly to the left(since normally the defending team is on the right) is much more simpler then just staying at the choke feeding ults. I mean, Ive been on attacking teams where we get a pick, even two, and the team just stands there!!!! Shit like that just drives me nuts.

If you're talking about QP, it's because it's such a different environment that being GM doesn't honestly mean jack shit sometimes lol. It only really matters mechanically.

Why is this a recurring trend? Why do Zaryas hold in their ults when everyone is ready to follow up and only shoot it as a panic button?

Nope competitive, I dont play much QP lol I would never get frustrated in QP its such a shitshow sometimes thats why I dont play it.. and when I do I never take it seriously either.

I should have pointed out Im talking about console though too which may or may not make a difference when it comes to that.

Weird. There are boosted as hell Master players on PC ladder, but it's rare to see GM players that are on that level of bad. It does happen cause lmao dynamic queue, but to that extent is p surprising.

Console definitely makes a difference, but Masters this season seems plagued with the same shit on PC as well.

I'm in a discord call watching it and everybody is just lik e"yeah this is extremely shitty and unfair." They'll probably get better rules because of that situation alone.

Wasting soldier ult and nano when everyone else on your team is dead, roadhog accidentally ulting, rein again panic ulting when everyone else is dead.

Ive noticed it enough times with a few GMs that I found it to be really weird definitely not a common occurrence though.. with Master ranks though... man... I dont even know how they would go about fixing the rating system... would a hard reset even work? I doubt it.

There hasn't been enough exposure of that Who.R.U. guy from LH, but what I saw of him makes Arhan look completely run of the mill. Even Haksal is looking more clean. It sucks pretty bad for ReCry for sure. He's one of the most universally praised DPS players in Korea and he's on a team of one tricks.

There needs to be a queue where you can't abuse fighting shitty groups and can't be carried by your friends as hard. Perhaps if there were a queue which limited how many people you could enter with...

I knew AF Blue was on a downward slope, but the entire AF org has to be really upset with their OW division. This is downright an embarrassment and the sign to write them off as not being a serious top team for the region.

Now even soloq Genji players have passed him up in terms of quality.

AF need to do some serious roster reworks. Their teams are hella outdated.
