they should have that scifi game. They're done with uncharted and I think they have 2 studios now that make games concurrently.

TLOU2 + one more currently being made. I wonder if Chloe DLC is taking the efforts of an entire team. :/

Savage Starlight?

Will be interesting if it's their next game.

It should be. They need to show their selling point. For me, that is not enough. Though I liked the story trailer.
I think they already have. They just need to elaborate on gameplay systems and things of that nature.

And I don't mean the type of concern you're talking about. I'm talking about the 'any exclusive game that is remotely hyped will turn out bad because lol NMS' concern.

Call me crazy, but I think that's going to end up the best of the bunch.
Yep, I think it will turn out good. It is another game that has been in the oven for a while now. I just want to see what they have in store to build around the interesting idea of swarms of zombies continuously chasing after you.

We knew Horizon was awesome from day one. They had a great pitch. Days Gone has a ways to go to prove itself and I think they modeled their reveal after how they unveiled Horizon. The issue is their demo wasn't as clear to the overall structure of the game and they've been silent since then. Whereas you had Guerilla and Sony constantly talking about how Horizon is an open world RPG.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, this game scored well. Guerilla got a well deserved win here.

Game looks right up my alley, will be top of my list when I take the dive for a PS4 (Pro).

Nah.

Days Gone will be getting "concern" too.

I don't know about"concern", but as of now it's nothing more than just another zombie game to me(yawn)

Gameplay looked boring too.

If they can't show interesting gameplay this year, then at least give me well writing and awesome characters like Ellie and Joel.

That is fair. I'm sure they will be front and center at E3.

The Lost Legacy breh. Most of the studio are working on TLoU 2, the team working on TLL is mid-size iirc (40-50 people).

ND new IP should hit early PS5 generation. Than again, they released three UC games and a new IP in the PS3 gen. I think it mostly depends on when PS5 comes out. They may do a repeat of last gen and launch a new IP the same year PS5 launches.

It's insane that I might get to play this and RDR2 in the same year. Then if Mass Effect ends up being brilliant too...

I think DG's issue is that it was shown early, so it came across as somewhat tech demo-ish. As in the focus seemed to be on the number of zombies and the way they were handling, which were rather unique. But I think it becomes a lot more interesting once you read about what they're doing with it

* Weapons crafting system, they call a "MacGuyver Mentality" where the you figure out clever ways to build tools to get out of situations.

* Wildlife is in the game, they have a "huge" wildlife system they aren't going to talk much about right now. But the event didn't wipe out all wildlife.

Featuring fully explorable environments and dynamic AI enemies, players will rely on their own abilities to strategize, craft weapons and tools, explore the world, and engage in combat. With almost every car, building and environment searchable, Days Gone delivers emergent gameplay possibilities, making a player’s approach to combat and discovery a vital part of the experience.

Using the power of PlayStation 4 and Unreal Engine 4, Bend Studio has developed a high volume of rendering and gameplay technology to deliver an incredibly realistic open world experience. Realistic weather effects, such as rain, wind, snow and day-night cycles impact the gameplay. The game’s lighting is all real-time and reacts dynamically, the way the human iris does, as players move from one location to the next.

Yes, this is an open world game. Bend called it a “dynamic open world,” and it’s being built with Unreal Engine 4...Take, for instance, the hordes of freakers seen in the demo...That horde will follow you indefinitely if you keep the right distance between it and yourself. Say you want to take out another human gang’s camp. Have that horde follow you and drag them all the way to your rival’s camp. The horde seeks the bigger target and does your work for you.

“You can go anywhere,” says Pape. “There’ll be waypoint on the map you can set, you can set your own waypoints, you can fast travel for some of the areas because it is such an expansive map”. And, while the demo showed a forrest location Pape says the north west American setting has been chosen specifically for the extreme environments it can provide. “You’ve for the mountains, snow, hail, rain wind, high dessert. City wise you’ll encounter abandoned suburbs, towns, it’s not just going to be in the woods”.

Days Gone didn't demo well but gaf loves "systems" and "mechanics" so the opinion here should turn around once they show more

in the real world it should do fine

It's interesting this thread is so divisive even though the reviews aren't and very few in here have actually had the opportunity to play the game. I honestly don't think it's due to it being an exlusive and people trying to discredit it because they're attached to something else. Perhaps it's due to GG having a bit of a controversial games resume, which in my opinion is a stance with more merit to it and one that I agree with (I don't think any of their games so far was better than B tier). Most importantly I think, is that people have grown a little wary of games with sick graphics scoring high.

I might be alone here, but when I saw a graphically very unimpressive game like Nioh receive glowing reception I was pretty confident in the game. Generally, I find graphics to affect a game's review score to an undeserving degree. In fact, I find graphics to be a pretty unsubstantial part of video games - a wow effect that fades fast at which point you better start digging the mechanics of the game or you wasted your money. Anyway, turns out Nioh has absolutely jaw-dropping gameplay is likely the clostes single-player experience to Bloodborne we've had ever since that game came out.

I'm just saying that good graphics lift the score floor way too high. Horizon might just be as good as advertised but I can't exactly blame people for at least being sceptical until they've laid their hands on it.

But The Order 1886.

It certainly helped The Order: 1886 and Ryse.

It's so impressive to see these titans slug it out. You know there has to be love, respect, and sibling rivalry between Naughty Dog, Guerilla, and Santa Monica.

I'd say it's more of love and respect than sibling rivalry.

Oh man. Now I wish Rockstar can do same magic with their engine.

Oh they will. Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to look absolutely fantastic :)

Damn it sucks I can't afford a 4K TV and a Pro this is unreal :/

It looks amazing on the base PS4 as well. All of the preview footage was from the base model, unless stated otherwise.

My 4K set has never been more ready.

Nice. My 1080p display is ready for Horizon's supersampled image :)

And unlike Shadowfall they actually built a good game around it this time.

I enjoyed Shadowfall's campaign and absolutely loved its multiplayer.

How?

HOW?

Guerilla Games :)

Thanks. It's just hard for zombie games to interest me these days. Will see what they have in E3.

The Last of Us and Witcher 3. subpar gameplay, but pretty visuals and nothing else in those games made them as good as the scores suggest

/s obviously.

Nah.

Days Gone will be getting "concern" too.

I'm concerned about Days Gone, in the sense that it appears to be ticking off every box that's popular in AAA video game design right now without blazing its own trail. If Knack 2 and GT Sport didn't exist, I'd probably consider it the least appealing PS exclusive that's on the horizon, unless I'm forgetting something.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I must say the reception to Days Gone perplexs me a bit. Its by and far one of the more interesting looking AAA games we've seen in a while however it seems like people see gruff white protagonist and zombies and shut their brains off. Instead of just focusing on the horde itself and looking at everything else going on in the couple of play throughs they've released and I find everything else what really makes the game impressive. Then reading about their ambitions for the game you realize that the horde is a very very small aspect of it, they even make a note of this in several interviews. The sandbox gameplay possibilities sound vast and impressive, whether they pull it off is unknown but there is a lot more going on in that game than a lot of zombies running at you.

Well, I am not too hot on it either, as I stated earlier, but execution is king, so I am willing to give it a chance, still.

Hopefully the story is good. There will be a lot of The Last of Us comparisons. The team better be prepared for that.

I completely agree with you.

I have never cared for graphics much, it falls to the background after a few hours. This game is just flat out great. I don't think the great graphics thing and reviews has mattered for a long time now. I think people are just wary of the AAA game just being well designed enough to get high scores but not being special in any one area.

Well I think horizon is special in the enemy design and combat areas. There isn't much anything like it and it makes the world a joy to roam around. Plus everything is pretty damn good as well.

I would consider Horizon Zero Dawn a must have for anyone who has a PlayStation 4 and loves action and exploration. Evoking thoughts of what a third-person Far Cry game would play like, this title will be one that I leave installed on my system, long after beating it. From the plot to voice actress Ashly Burch’s spot-on delivery as Aloy, there’s a lot to enjoy here, even after the initial playthrough is complete.

In fact, they are not pretty unsubstantial. They are the video in video game. Without graphics no video game. The time, money, technical and artistic effort that is put into the graphics of a video game is a very substantial part of game development. As an artist myself I'd argue it is equally important to the gameplay part.

Days gone getting slept on like dreams. Come on bend and MM show em

The former more so on gaf than most other places I've seen tho

I only played Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and I though that game was abys(s)mal at points. So I am curious. They either had a game got cancelled we don't know about, or they are developing on this for a long time now.

This might just be an enthusiast gamer thing as I've shown some random friends who are pretty casual that E3 demo and most of them used terms like,"edge of their seat" and "nail biting" to describe it. We tend to be a lot more jaded and "been there, done that" about games, especially ones with as tried and true premises as a zombie post apocalypse.

It didn't blow my mind but I felt that the might have something really cool there.

The demo was good from a technical aspect, the horde, and the many ways you can interact with them. What I didn't like was some voice acting and writing here and there (the whole dialogue with the guy the main character is looking for was kinda bland to me) and the way that horde ignore the player and fall to their death with practically nothing. But I think all that was due to an early look.
