Microsoft announced Xbox Game Pass subscription service

The big difference with PSPlus though is that PSPlus lets you keep the games (I assume GwG does too). I got in on PSPlus pretty late and I have a library of like 50 games that gets bigger every week.

I have played like two of them

True, I have a huge library from PS+. This is a different trade-off though - a bigger library for newcomers, but I guess the trade is if games are cycling in an out. Oh, and the extra fee I guess.

And yea this seems like an extension of GWG or psplus. Psnow is straight up streaming.

This cycles out games and offers discounts with a bigger library a more robust GWG.

Also will be interesting to see how GWG does in the future

Feels like people have been asking for this for years, hopefully they get the lineup right. Potentially great for devs with online games too, gives them an opportunity to get some life back into their communities.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of discounts they offer for the full purchase as well, considering what XBL prices are for full games right now (even old ones).

Microsoft might not be winning on exclusive software, but wow they are really running an end-around Sony with regards to BC support.

Sony paid deep for Gaikai years ago and have made very little splash with it. I can't believe how much MS has outplayed them at every turn.

Amazed they didn't have this announcement for e3. Guess their conference is packed as it is.

This is pretty sweet but until my rural internet sees a decent upgrade not something I could really take advantage of.

List of publishers seems a little slim, but, hopefully that'll grow if the service proves profitable. I'll definitely sign up for a month when it launches.

Wow, this is legit pretty amazing. I'm not gonna lie, ever since they announced that pretty much all big xbox games would also be coming to PC I didn't see a real reason to keep my xbox one and especially lately have seriously been considering selling it. This is a MAJOR reason for me to keep it, especially that price. If there is even two games a month that I'd be into playing I think it's worth it. Very cool.

"Xbox Game Pass will be available in at least 27 Xbox markets at launch, quickly growing to as many new markets as catalogue availability permits."

we'll be testing Xbox Game Pass with select members of the Xbox Insider Program in the Alpha Preview ring starting today with a very limited number of titles

I'm in the Alpha ring and downloading an update now :)

Fuck, finally. A digital rental subscription that's not streamed and not limited to a handful of preselected titles. Been waiting on this ever since digital distribution took off.

EDIT: Oh titles are cycled out every month? Dammit :(

I love it! The only part I don't like is the cycling out part, I don't want to feel forced to play games in fear that they will disappear. :(

Let me have it sit there for as long as I want as long as I keep subscribing and play whenever I want!

It strikes me that this would be exactly the sort of infrastructure their early always-online plans would have required. Of course, the offering is very different (and somewhat better!), but I wonder if that's some old R&D that's been repurposed.

What's the catch? When something sounds too good to be true...

Probably new games won't be put on it that often? Cause why would you buy games?

Well yeah I think it's pretty safe to assume new games won't be on this for a while.
The example image itself has mostly older stuff in there .

But for $9.90 and with 100 titles to chose from It's still a great deal and a fantastic service.

I hope they only add titles and do not remove older ones during the course like on NEtflix or any other VOD provider.

Seems like kind of a waste for $120 a year. If you play through 5 of those a year you'd get better value when they are on sale for $10-$15 dollars.

Xbox runs deep discounts so often on older Xbox 360 and Xbox one games that this seems like kind of a bad deal to me. I would feel the same on PlayStation.

I'm betting there will be some Microsoft titles that are mainstays to anchor the library, like Halo 5, while others come and go.

Every month new games will cycle into the subscription with some cycling out

Isn't this almost identical to Nintendo's thing?

So you can download the game to your Xbox, play for a month, and when it's cycled out you can't play anymore? 100 games though, great selection,

From the sounds of it, think Netflix. Titles cycle in and out. You may have halo for 1 month. You may get it for 6 months. It all depends, and Im sure developers and publishers have a say so for how long a title is in the cycle.

Not a huge fan of what are now essentially 3 different tiers of service

XBL Gold - you get multiplayer, cloud saves, and 4 games a month but now will those games be as good?

EA Access - you get your EA game pass sub service

XBox Game Pass - ok, now you get some different games

I'd frankly rather collapse all 3 into one tier, $10/mo or $70 (?) a year gives you access to all of it. Or at best two tiers - XBL Gold gives you multiplayer/cloud for $20/yr and pass gives you everything for $10/mo.

Wow, interesting move, be good to see how this works out but can certainly see this feeding into further E3 announcements, will have to check my preview when I get home.
