Kinda crazy that Switch didn't get any major AAA third parties for launch........

Like, all the major publishers gave Nintendo nothing. No Call of duty? EA couldn't get fifa out for launch? Some lego game? Like there is close to nothing.

I checked WiiU's launch, and yeah, it seemed like third parties actually gave a fuck in the beginning. Say you will about ports, it blasts the shit out of the switch launch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_console_launch_games#Wii_U

Is it because its a March release?

Dunno, am I missing something here?

I think since we heard about NX becoming Switch and now, it's just since 20th October, we really got the final details about the specs, and release date, etc about the Switch.

Most third-parties didn't simply have enough time to come up with a proper plan of their releases, compared to traditional console-releases, and they also had Christmas-vacation, fiscal year change, during that period of time.

Not too supriesed about weak launch-lineup except for Zelda, but I expect you'd see a much bette rthird-party support in the future. :-/

What big AAA 3rd Party game is launching right about now?
Everyone made room for For Honor, Horizon and Zelda. Sure, For Honor could have been ported over, but even that was so different and unproven and it would have been a late port.

I imaginehe real AAA test will be this holiday season - will CoD release on the Switch (most likely), will Destiny 2 (most likely not), will the next Assassin's Creed (no idea)?
By then you have the complete Online Ecosystem on which some 3rd Partys might be dependent and a somewhat solid userbase that's done with Zelda, Mario Kart, Arms and Splatoon and maybe wants a AAA alternative to Mario Odyssey that's not following Nintendo's style.

We'll see at E3 at the latest if 3rd parties will make the effort, but until then, we'll just have to wait.

Resident evil 7, Mass effect, and ghost recon. And none of them have switch versions

Not really, it's literally not worth the effort to port anything because it's so weak comparatively.

It's a handheld system and western devs aren't making handheld games.

Again with this "it's a handheld system" meme. By that logic, Breath of the Wild shouldn't have been made since it's clearly a console level game that had to work on a "handheld system."

Many people here are getting way too caught up in seeing the switch as either/or when it objectively can do both. Western devs aren't forced to make "handheld games." (Whatever that means since the line between console and handheld games have blurred since the DS and PSP generation).

With low effort ports like Skyrim SE being 6 months after release and FIFA being holiday I wonder if Nintendo just didnt sent kits to major 3rd parties until a few weeks / months before launch.

Would be a very Nintendo thing to do.

Only a fool would expect ports of current gen AAA games though. The hardware just isnt there and most studios shut down cross gen versions ages ago.

Well the reasoning is they bailed out when the Wii U ship was burning, and the more obvious hardware differences between the PS4/Xbone and the Switch when compared to PS360 and Wii U. I mean what games should be on the Switch now? DOOM? Hitman? FFXV? The technical limitations alone are enough to make it not worth the effort.

Switch's bread and butter will be first party games and HOPEFULLY indie titles. Virtual Console could be a draw if they don't screw it up. If the Switch does well, we could maybe, MAYBE see big third party games that are essentially ports of the PC version but locked to Low settings. MAYBE.

Well, one of guys from ID software was excited about Doom on the Switch, so I wouldn't use Doom as an example...

There's another thread comparing the Switch to the Vita, and that's what I always imagined it would be.

What you're gonna get are Nintendo games, indie games, and hopefully a continuation of the games both the 3DS and Vita got.

I don't think a lot of people are buying switch as their main gaming platform, seriously, how could they. But I think a lot of people will buy it as a companion platform (PS4/Switch, PC/Switch, etc.)

I already know of 10 people with PS4s that bought Switch on launch day. They'll still play FIFA and Overwatch together regularly.

Yea. The "It's march" excuse does not hold up. All of these games are very close to the switch launch and would have been good additions to its library.

The people that use the March excuse are the same that use the Steep switch version that nobody has seen as some kind of proof that Switch can run current gen AAA games up to par.

It's funny to see people say that Red Dead 2, KH3, etc will come to Switch.

It's a tablet lol

To be fair they have been told that the switch only has to be able to run those engines and it can get those games. Of course this was a load of bull.

That's really the main problem with Nintendo consoles. Many people buy them to complement an Xbox or Playstation. Not many people will get a Nintendo as their first choice. If Nintendo figured out 3rd party support, that problem would be solved.

Why does that distinction matter? Sony is a Japanese company but still manages to get western 3rd party support.

i dont know. audiences i guess. nintendo is much stronger in japan at the moment and japanese devs are struggling with HD since ages.
I really want to know where the mythical "Nintendo has Japanese 3rd parties" came from.

Because ironically, they were the first to lose them (i.e Final Fantasy 7 on the N64).
nothing mythical about it. 3DS has a lot of japanese third party support (monster hunter, smt, yokai watch, dragon quest, bravely default to name a few)

or they buy ps4s, pcs or xbones to complement their nintendo hardware

any platform at launch will not be able to be a main platform. i can see the switch getting to be my main platform easily in the latter half of 2017 though

Half of which are really old ports sold at full price, maybe with missing features and didn't sold a lot as a result.

But this, we have lots of indie titles, running with no compromises and some as exclusives or timed-exclusives.

only if you don't have a Vive or Rift. Most of them were ports or an hour experience like Batman. The only memorable game is RIGS

It still had a better launch period.

Nintendo didn't reveal the Switch to major third parties before they revealed it to customers? While it's Nintendo and thus cannot be fully ruled out, I have serious doubts about that.

Japanese 3rd parties and Independent developers showed up.

Currently even Japanese third parties don't seem to fully bet on it, if Nintendo doesn't give them Nintendo properties to work with. For example, Dynasty Warriors isn't coming, Koei Tecmo only brings Fire Emblem Warriors.

Nobunaga's ambition and Romance Of the Three Kingdoms are Nintendo IPs now?

Why's Sengoku Musou Sanada Maru not annouced for the Switch? That would actually make me consider to buy one (now, I'll eventually buy one anyway) if the would be Switch version is considerably better than the Vita version.

What 3rd Party AAA game is going to be better on Switch? None.

Even if they manage to make it unto Switch, who is going to buy the Next Mass Effect or any multiplayer game that uses voice chat on Switch?

Can't blame 3rd parties actually.

Depends on your priorities. For me, the portability of the Switch means that the definitive version of Skyrim will be on Switch.

Just a GAF thing at this point.

Like there was the narrative in the JP sales thread that devs should just abondan the Playstation ecosystem for the Switch because reasons.

OP, were you not aware of how badly the Wii U crashed and burned?

That coupled with the Switch's comparatively weak hardware means that no third parties are going to bother with Nintendo.

Point still stands, a lot of big Japanese 3rd party titles aren't coming. Still good to see that Koei is also bringing some smaller budget titles over to Switch. I also wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo pays them for another Project Zero game.

I am always surprised that 3rd parties at least don't embrace the eshop as a port machine. This launch is anemic. Any crappy port might interest me

Probably because Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes sold like shit on the Wii.

AFAIK nobody is saying developers should abandon PS titles to go nintendo exclusive.
Because that would be as stupid as saying they should abandon Nintendo to go PS4 exclusive which is... oh, what you think should happen.

It's remarkable to me that anyone would expect a western AAA developer to publish anything on a Nintendo platform at this point.

Maybe if the Switch gets some traction and proves itself to be a success, but certainly no one is going to stick their head out here.

Kodiak

Not an asshole.
All Nintendo needed for launch was Zelda. Why would anyone want to put a port of a year old game up against the killer app?

That is not the reason, there were (or will be released soon) already several AAA games released this year that are not coming to the Switch.
Resident Evil 7, For Honor, Ghost Recon and Mass Effect.

This Zelda theory really doesn't make sense. You all know the real reason why there's a lack of support from third parties. The Switch is underpowered and most companies are skeptical that it will sell well. They are taking the wait and see approach before they commit to anything.

how is for honor even considered an AAA game at all with a barebone sisngleplayer and a generally broken online and after being universally panned by critics?

shovel knight on the other hand gets 9s everywhere and it is not considered worthy as AAA because, reasons
