Steam has optional achievements developers are free to add or not at their own discretion.
Just like the Switch has.
Steam does not have mandatory systemic achievements.
Which is what people really into achievements want, so that every game has them, and all users are subject to them, and can be compared against, even if they turn notifications off.
Goddamn. The people mocking and attacking OP simply because he doesn't like the Switch is pretty gross. Defense force is out in full force, it would appear.
I own a Switch and I'm loving Zelda but the OP is 100% correct about the problems with the system itself. You don't have to blindly defend Nintendo's many bad decisions and the problems with the Switch just because Zelda is good.
Steam doesn't, Android doesn't, IOS doesn't, Origin doesn't, UPlay doesn't, GOG doesn't, Humble Doesn't, Blizzard.net doesn't.
MS and Sony do. That's literally it. That's not an industry standard.
Speak for yourself but I am having a blast with my Switch.
Playing the best Zelda of all time, yes of all time, with the amazing ProPad is pure bliss.
Going back from the Switch ProPad to say, a DS4, is like traveling back to the Stone Age. Dualshock 4 is quite comfortable but feels like an Atari 2600 controller in comparison, that's how awesome the ProPad is.
The JoyCons mark the first time I can finally enjoy mobile gaming to its fullest. No more restrictions, no more hand cramps, just absolute control and pure fun.
Well nintendo doesn't really give the option, does it?
What are you talking about?
Steam has achievements. Origin has achievements. Android has a game app and has achievements for games with that. Uplay has achievements. Battle.net has achievements. GOG Galaxy has achievements. Humble is a store so why would it have achievements? The only one on your list that may not have achievements (and I don't know since I don't own anything on that platform) is iOS.
If you don't know if a platform has achievements or not you probably shouldn't make a post saying it doesn't have achievements.
We can talk about how they've succeeded in finally making a compelling piece of hardware that people are attracted to in itself, in addition to their games. It's the talk of the town in a way Nintendo consoles usually aren't. It's a great start for what could be a positive shift in their recent hardware run. It's probably their best idea in decades and they managed to make it reality.
Of course there are issues. Some will be fixed. Some compromises are always made. But no, I don't think we'll focus on 'how much they've failed'.
Gonna be honest, I really hope Nintendo fixes the issues with the Switch and starts migrating over to solely a software company and lives on through other consoles and app stores. They have some really bad people making decisions and quite frankly they should clean house.
You're enjoying your Switch? Great! Now how about addressing the complaints or giving your opinion on them? You know you can still enjoy something and criticise it, right? Don't have to be all in.
This is not a good look. Resorting to tasteless ad hominems.
what a let down
Thanks for beta testing
Man i remember when people were saying if you didnt preorder, there was little chance of you getting one in March.
HAHAHAHA
i laughed even when that was said.
Beta testers are the backbones of this great country.
I have both a Wii U and vita.
Playing on that Wii U screen...inferior enough that I preferred the tv by a mile. Plus never really enjoyed the feel of the game pad
Vita...even if remote play ever worked as well as the hype (always enough lag that I'd rather play straight on the PS4), the lack of stick clicks and double shoulder buttons always made the experience inferior. This included older PlayStation ports
This is the first time I've actually felt pretty good going from tv to portable, because the experience this time is pretty much literally the same. Since it's the same controller with a screen that can do it justice
This has been my hope since Nintendo opened the floodgates with the 3DS, but the hardware was too prohibitive. This time around they have hardware that most mobile developers will be more familiar with. They should definitely encourage studios that release quality mobike titles to port those experiences to the Switch. I think the concept of having those experiences on a handheld with buttons and even better visuals would be appealing.I think what they should be doing is making the platform alluring to indie developers trying to make a break but also looking to make mobile gaming more viable so that developers can bring their games to mobile mass Market. I imagine it might make Apple and co realise that the is big money to be made in the space with AAA games and expand their eco systems around it.
Given progression in The Binding Of Isaac is almost entirely achievement based and I highly doubt that they are reworking the entire game from scratch just for the Switch - yes, apparently they do allow achievements.
They just don't do it in the way that the OP demands.
People need to realize that the faster issues like this get brought to attention and caught by X company, the faster they can get it fixed and out of everyone's misery.
The more issues that don't get caught that people have to try to live and put up with, the more it eventually hardens their hearts and sours their minds in the long run towards X company.
So by trying to cover issues up, they aren't doing their beloved company any service.
Also, OP you've missed a few issues,
Like the scratches that people are getting while docking,
Original thread with others reporting the same with picshttp://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1349599
Protection thread that was spawned from it with various ideas on how to protect from scratches for the time being. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1349755
Also, the screen quality apparently differs kind of like the 3Ds did.

Worse than that, people posting comments about Reggie touching OP inappropriately and OP's mom not giving OP money to buy a Switch...disgusting.
As I said in a previous post, bringing issues to light is the ONLY way Nintendo will fix things. Not sure why people don't see that.
The time around hardware launches is always like this. Everyone wants their purchase validated so they are sure they didn't make a mistake or misplace their trust.Goddamn. The people mocking and attacking OP simply because he doesn't like the Switch is pretty gross. Defense force is out in full force, it would appear.
Maybe you, and other people in this thread should actually address the OPs points instead of saying "Zelda is great". This thread isn't about how great Zelda is.
I was referring to the PS4 which didn't get startup resume until well after it launched... same with Xbox if I recall. The last handheld that released with no sleep mode was the GBA.
1) Do we have any other pics besides that one where peoples Switches are scratching? I only ask because ive taken mine out of the dock probably ~50 times so far and there's not a mark. Sure if I'm not careful and toss it in the dock like Jeff Gerstmann it will gather up scratches at an alarming rate, but its also why I don't put my phone in my pocket with my keys, it's called being careful.
2) That screen looks borked, like that should be returned as a defective unit. Now if 50% of people were getting a a mix between the 2 screens then i'd say we had an issue on our hands.
You're just dodging the issue behind the 'mandatory or not' issue. Every single of those services that you (rightfully) say don't have mandatory achievements provide have the achievements connected to your profile at a system level, and that's what Nintendo doesn't provide.Given progression in The Binding Of Isaac is almost entirely achievement based and I highly doubt that they are reworking the entire game from scratch just for the Switch - yes, apparently they do allow achievements.
They just don't do it in the way that the OP demands.
Pretty much agree with you completely OP. I feel like the console launching with one great game, combined with people's hope of Nintendo's true return is blinding people.
It's been a horrendous launch from a hardware and software perspective.
Wow, what a nice fella!

I played around with a co-workers I thought it felt light and cheap feeling, surprised it didn't have more weight.
They're not system-wide achievements, are they?
Thanks for beta testing
It was rushed because the Wii U was a colossal flop. And it shows. Hopefully in 12 months it's more fully realized and it is still viable
I just don't get how rushing it out half-finished with some pretty significant software, hardware, and online infrastructure shortcomings and making a bad first impression is better than giving yourself a few more months to sort these issues out and launch during the holidays with a way better lineup.
At least with the modular nature of the joycons they can pretty easily do a revision later on that solves the syncing issue, if they think it's even worth addressing.
I'm enjoying my Switch, but there's so much wrong with it that I don't think the average consumer would put up with, especially with a PS4 and Xbox One readily available to them with a greater value proposition, better services and cheaper entry price.
I don't see how this is a reasonable expectation, or one to judge the performance of the kickstand. I think the stand could be stronger too, but you would need an adjustable tripod to keep something propped up and stable in a bed.I tried to have the Switch stand on my bed while lying down and the damn thing would not. The surface has to be absolutely flat.
Steam doesn't, Android doesn't, IOS doesn't, Origin doesn't, UPlay doesn't, GOG doesn't, Humble Doesn't, Blizzard.net doesn't.
