Another terrible news from Brazil: a 13yo boy was murdered because he was begging for money/food near a known fast food chain (Habib's).

The security guy punched him in the face and then he and the manager even dragged him to the opposite side of the street because, you know, can't leave a beaten boy in front of your store, bad for business.

The boy died there, in the sidewalk. There is footage of him being dragged as a pile of cement across the street.

Disgusting.

This is one of the most sickening stories I've ever come across on these forums. My stomach is churning just thinking of what that poor women went through in the last seconds of her life. I'm at an utter loss for words at how people could be capable of such heinous acts for mere pleasure.

Holy shit....

For a report a couple of years ago: https://journalistsresource.org/stu...ainst-lgbt-persons-2015-united-nations-report

Between 2008 and 2014, there were 1,612 murders, across 62 countries, of transgender persons — equivalent to a killing every two days.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights reported 594 hate-related killings of LGBT persons in the 25 members of the Organization of American States between January 2013 and March 2014.

Brazil saw 310 murders in 2012 in which homophobia or transphobia was a motive.

In 2013 the U.S. experienced 18 hate-violence homicides and 2,001 incidents of anti-LGBT violence.

This has me shaking with rage. How the fuck can people be so god damn evil? Cheering and laughing even? Those scumbags don't deserve to exist.

I imagined it was going to be Brazil when I read the thread title, this fucking country... Makes me wonder if it can ever change. Too much hate.

Even if you have idiotic, ignorant beliefs about trans people, what could possibly push you to become a murderer!? This is just unreal. It's way too evil.

This is awful. I couldn't watch it past a few seconds. Like it pierces my heart seeing that.

HAH. That's a good one. Take a look at any supporting trans thread, and you'll see 2, maybe 3 pages. Look at any chance to bash trans people, and you'll see 10+ pages.

I need receipts, this is a bold claim. First, proof that these threads contain "bashing", and then prove that the support pages aren't like every other purely positive threads that die off because there's nothing to discuss other than "this is awesome!" "Great job".

I've not seen another place as non-transphobic as gaf.

I hope they each get the one death that frightens them most. Shit like molten metal being poured down their mouths is too good for them.

Don't underestimate indoctrination mixed with ignorance and bigotry. Then on top of that, potentially hard-wing religious indoctrination. Catholicism is dominant in Brazil, and the harshest teachings of it are disgracefully anti-LGBT.

Sadly many of these disgusting people believe they are doing some sort of service and/or greater good, as opposed to simply killing/beating for no reason at all.

There is a strong relationship between a country's religiosity and opinions about homosexuality.2 There is far less acceptance of homosexuality in countries where religion is central to people's lives – measured by whether they consider religion to be very important, whether they believe it is necessary to believe in God in order to be moral, and whether they pray at least once a day.

http://www.pewglobal.org/2013/06/04/the-global-divide-on-homosexuality/

Of course, intolerance can be separated from verbal abuse to violence, and while both are abhorrent, Brazil has a serious issue with violence. You can somewhat put up with religious bigotry towards LGBT if it keeps to private thoughts/words, attacking and killing someone on the street is a level above the former, especially when it happens so frequently in a country.

I had a feeling this was going to be Brazil. Fucking hell man, I feel sick. No way I can watch that video.

They better catch these animals...

If you a way of getting Viceland, the show Gaycation (Ellen Page + Best Friend) did a whole episode on Brazil

There was a hit man questioned on why he kills gays/trans
The answer was just blew my mind
Also a retired former cop... (iirc)
I should check out Gaycation. I had assumed it was just Ellen Page being gay and going on vacation.

Kinda puts things into perspective. Being a LGBT-rights advocate in the US is operating an entirely different part of the spectrum.

Same. There are a disturbing number of videos out there from that region of outed LGBT and harmless petty thieves being savagely beaten and humiliated in public. It's sickening.

There really are. I remember Stephen Fry's Out There and Gaycation shed some light on it, but I truly can't grasp how a nation like Brazil has such a violence issue, especially against LGBT people. Man...

Fucking awful, and it saddens me that this violence is so prevalent. The wave of fascism that normalizes this is gradually spreading over the world, and i'm honestly terrified.

Fucking sickening. I am furious right now. The killers don't deserve a trial. Fuck them. They're monsters.

The fuck.

Jesus. I waffle back and forth on the death penalty, but I'll be damned if bastards like this don't make the case for "an eye for an eye" type punishments.

We are not yet evolved or intelligent civilized beings.

We are a joke of a civilization and we are neanderthals to thought and understanding.

Human race has centuries to go before we are enlightened, if ever.

My money is on self destruction.

The title kind of makes me fee uneasy, but we really need to know that these people exist out there and are horrible violent assholes.

These 2 threads are pretty good examples of people that came out to bash trans people.

And here are threads that could have had plenty of discussion, but no one really cared about.

There are tons more examples just like these too.

I dunno, I identify as gender fluid and my experience is that I find GAF a positive and supportive place. Maybe the positive threads garner less replies just because the majority of people agree with them and there's not much discussion?

Edit: the two examples you cited immediately above this post, especially the wrestling one, seem to me to be more about criticising dumb decisions (like having a transman wrestle ciswomen) than about trans-hostility. When it comes to general gender issues, GAF is supportive and liberal in my experience.

Yes, that's what the thread itself is about. But not what the posts are.

Stories like this really scare me. I'm two months in on HRT transitioning MTF and have always wanted to visit Brazil. Maybe in another lifetime. ;_;

Last thread we had about whether people would consider having a transgender Mumei was demodded and that was not a long time ago. Things are such that there are a number of posters whose presence almost always means that they're educating someone who's acting like a butt about these things. I would be hard pressed to say that gaf is a place that's unambiguously inviting to transgender topics, especially on the gaming side, but to be honest i'm not in a position to be certain or have an authority on the subject.
