No, and I really hate to be *that* guy, but this poster does not understand Japanese (IIRC). The story is fine, it's far from perfect, and yeah it's still basically anime - but the events and characters are more grounded in real world situations than before.

In fact, for people who haven't been playing the Persona games because they don't normally like JRPGs and anime, this would be the best one to start with - assuming they don't mind the length.

I agree here. Visually it takes on a much more anime-esque style than the other games, but the content itself here is much more grounded in reality than the other titles. And I felt the final parts of the game were where the story reached its peak, so I just wholehearted disagree with him there. Even the way the characters interact feels less like it's trying hard to be "anime" and more like how real characters act.

Not to derail the thread, but the story really isn't that grounded. It goes to much crazier heights than P4 could even dream of hitting.

This is a conversation for another thread though. Probably in about four weeks' time.

You mean we're not going with "Persona 5 |OT| Unfuckwithable Coolness"??

I really liked that one.

Never forget:

No one's saying there's no over the top fantasy stuff here, or that the narrative is completely realistic - only that the story DOES deal with real world situations more so than the previous games.

The game's first story alone is not something I'd imagine seeing in 3 or 4.

How does one know when a game is the "second coming" anyways

U played it till it over, then replayed it 3 more times. U spent times thinking about it at work and when you laying in bed. You ignore social calls in the weekend and spend it playing the game instead. You get laid off because you are late for work for 2 weeks in the row, but it is ok because you have the game in your life.

As someone who found Persona 4 meh, but loved Persona 3 and 2 so much will Persona 5 align to my taste?

I mean I disliked how lighthearted Persona 4 was and how there was a lack of consequences for the characters.

Sounds almost... like P1 & P2 :p

The first story is literally the best part of the game. In fact, everyting in the first half of the game is bloody brilliant. It's super weird, and no way near as mature as people are pretendingg, but it's brilliant. Nearly every issue I have is with the latter half of the narrative.

Dantis have a heavy P4 bias and is hellbent on decreasing expectations from p5 which he believe are too high, after playing through it without japanese knowledge

There, I felt like this disclaimer is necessary

I'd hate to do that to myself. My Japanese is between bad-okayish level but I'd rather just for it in English so I can understand the full thing without missing out on any of the nuances and enjoy it all that way.

Visually the game is absolutely stunning from what I've seen, despite being a PS3 game, Atlus really did a fantastic job of making such a great looking cel shaded/artistic game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again

Persona 5
Prey (being done by Mick Gordon)
Nier
Stormblood
Gravity Rush
Ace Combat 7
Mass Effect
Tekken 7
All the nintendo stuff

OST of the year is gonna be an absolute bloodbath, and I love it

Horizon Zero Dawn's OST is fucking amazing.

"accessible"
"the magazine says it's not only better than its predecessor, but also tops Square Enix's Final Fantasy 15"

God damn, game journalism is embarrassing.

I'm sure this is a phenomenal game. As is BotW. But I think we need a revamp on the review system.

Shit, I've thought this since falling for GTAIV's scores and hype several years ago. Oodles of reviews with effusive praise without diving into negatives or potential sticking points ultimately helps no one but the publishers.

And I say this as someone who's been dying for P5 since loving P3 and P4. It's been so long and the wait is almost over.

Is Persona like FF? That it's a new story in every game? I never played one but feels like I need to give it a chance.

Do not worry then . consequences are IN.
In many aspects , P5 is more P3 and than P4.

I guess i need someone to define why "mature" is used since people were saying that it was better grounded in reality despite the anime asthetic.Or did i miss a post ?
The 4th arc is better than the first :p

Honestly. I gotta put Mass Effect: Andromeda on the back burner. Gonna wait until it's cheaper. Playing Horizon, and Zelda right now. and I'll be getting the CE of this game. That's more than enough to play and I'm in no rush to beat any of these games.
