Xbox Scorpio Pricing Discussion

I think 499$, anyway I don't think Scorpio will be that much popular between casual gamers, they'll continue to prefer PS4/X1 at a really cheaper cost, so MS will try to sell it at hardcore fans.

I'm pretty sure PS4 Pro is not selling that much compared to regular PS4, for MS will be about the same IMHO.

I've always expected it to be $499.

Digital Foundry speculating that it'll indeed be on that range almost solidifies it for me.

Older Jaguar and Polaris tech is saying to me that it will be $399 / £380 (I don't think they will hit £349, with how prices have gone up a bit)

And you think hardware prices have dropped $100 in the last 6 months?

At the time of scorpio's release a year will have passed. Semiconductor pricing curves have gone slowed down but a scorio-like system at the end of 2017 should cost as much as a ps4 pro like system at the end of 2016.

Just before you ask I think the pro will be overpriced with the release of scoprio.

Good grief people Scorpio isn't going to be $399! Think of Scorpio as a Pro plus a 4k Blu-ray drive ($15), 4GB more ram ($30), 384 bit bus ($??), bigger APU ($??)w/GPU clocked at almost 1200mhz! So you have to cool the darn box to last longer than 6 months. It's cooling solution don't look or sound cheap. Expect $499 just like the XBone original price point but this time its worth it.

they cant go 499 (it would be a marketing disaster) but, at the same time they probably can't go 399 because of cost.

Not sure why this would be anything more than 399?

Falls in line if you look at this hardware vs a PS4 pro, one year later.

Expect sony to cut 50 bucks off this Holliday, even though they've been REALLY ballsy this gen on price.

I think it would be an OMG moment if they released it at $400.

I know some people are anticipating a Sony price drop to offset the Scorpio, but that would be silly on Sony's part IMO. They already won the gen, and should really be focused on profit margins. I doubt they reduce the Pro price for the same reason they took forever to drop the PS4 price- they are selling a lot of consoles anyway and making a lot of money.

Back to Scorpio, it looks like an semi-equivalent PC rig could be could be had for $500. Ofcourse that doesn't account for all of the R&D MS put into this. But it also does account for the savings they'll get buying in bulk, not their (suspected) intentions to make this device forward compatible with xb2 software.

I don't think MS expects this to be a money maker, and is fine to let Xb1s continue to be their main seller. But I also think they'll be keen to garner the type of excitement Sony's been getting when they announce pricing .

I know it'll be between 400-500 bucks, but I have no idea where.

I would think the UHD drive is pretty negligible at this point in terms of driving up costs. That $ number is based on the cost back when the PRO was being designed many months ago.

$449 and not higher.

Consoles that are $500 or more never do well in the U.S. modern examples are original PS3 and original XBone.

$449 Scorpio / $249 Xbox One S would be an interesting high/low mix and a $200 difference in pricing and definitely a premium price for Scorpio compared to Xbox One S.
Moreso than PS4 Pro / Slim PS4 where there was only a $100 difference ($399 / $299).

I'm thinking some people just don't understand the point of these console refreshes.

To be fair, Spencer did say that they were not targeting the causal people. Its meant for the smaller percent of people that want something more and are willing to wait and/or upgrade to a better system.

Considering they market and sell a pro controller for $149, I'm going to say they will market this as a high-end system and will sell it for $499.

And that equals $499 and up.

Id still like to see $299

Don't hate me.

$499.99 is the number I expect. Could be higher though. I also expect Sony to release a refreshed Pro to counter (no new specs, just slimmer and maybe with UHD drive or some nice bundles with the existing pro).

399 peeps are drunk.

If the higher price-point is inevitable ($450+), then MS had better have new game releases to support it, otherwise it's not looking good.

And how is the Scorpio going to accomplish that?
The PS4 has a bigger user base, more exclusive games and a lower price point.
The Scorpio is attractive to the hardcore crowd and early tech adopters.
There's a reason why the first official reveal was made in a site dedicated to the technical side of games.
lol I never said it's going to happen, just that Microsoft wants it to happen.

I strongly believe its going to be $400-$450MAX but reading through majority of the post yesterday and listening to podcasts where one guy from Gameinformer guessed $500-$650USD, Paul Thurrot from What The Tech guessed $600-$700USD. Even lot of people in Scorpio thread believes it will be $500-$600.

I feel completely out of loop. What is the reason for this assumption? It goes against all the good will Microsoft has been building since the orignal Xbox One reveal.

Releasing a console a lot more powerful than PS4 Pro a year later which costs ($150-$250) more. (Assuming Pro will be $350 with bundled game this holiday). Good thing costs more, isnt that a general rule of thumb on any part of the world? PS4 was popular because it was powerful and $100 cheaper on launch and same price after MS dropped kinect.

I still havent read a single post where $500-$600 is justifiable for this console and how it can succeed if its that expensive. And no Phil saying "Premium" doesnt mean anything. One S will be $200-$250 with bundled games by this holiday, you telling me scorpio will cost more than double that price? Come on now.

So what you guys think it will cost and why?

Phil seems to be indicating that it will be more expensive than the PS4 Pro. Otherwise why would he keep mentioning premium. Elite controller was 'premium' and it was absurdly expensive. I would guess the price will be $500... anything more would be absurdly expensive even if it's a nice console. Having owned all the current console I will be skipping this one.

$399

All this talk of 'but Ms said it'd be premium' is just buying into their marketing. Imagine what a bargain it'll seem if it's 'only' $399

I would hope it's $399. (I know Microsoft could eat the loss for a while if they WANTED to, but they probabaly won't.)

My guess will be $449 and the max I would spend on it would be $499. (Although I live in UK, but it's just easier to talk in $ on a US site. Lol)

Honestly, it would be smart if they did $399 because there is no doubt in my mind Sony will price drop the Pro before or after Scorpio releases, as that would just be a smart move by them.

In a nut shell, I'm in the "Praying for $399" Club but I will go to $499 as the max.

they will do a gank buster sale for 399 and kill the entire market and all of us with it. I have already ordered a casket to bury myself..

I take premium as marketing of the product, moreso than suggestive that its going to be very expensive compared to its competitors 'premium' product. The Xbox slim is very likely to be $199 this holiday season. So by comparison,$399 is 'premium'. That said I'd be surprised if it actually is $399, because as the huge underdog this gen MS IMHO doesn't really have the cache to ask for $499. I can see something in-between that from $429 to $469, but $499 becomes $550ish with taxes and without a single piece of software, and I think that's a tale order even for the hardcore.

He doesn't say it's a premium by console standards though. Quite the opposite infact, he said to expect a price people come to expect from consoles.

He says it's premium compared to the xbox one S. The S will be $199 by the time this launches. $399 is definitely premium compared to a $199 product.

It's gonna be 399 with no game bundled and 450 with games.

Specs don't seem that otherworldly.

I'm confident it's gonna come with the Gears games. Like how the S came with all Halo. MS just doesn't do console bundles without games any more and hasn't since Titanfall.

How much does the UHD player add to the cost? I was always curious about this.

Yeah... I'm not sure why people are equating "premium" to mean that it needs to be priced like the Elite Controller. It's also worth noting that Microsoft is generally proud of what they can pull off with hardware, so they're just naturally going to talk things up.

I seem to remember reading an article or two before the launch of the Xbox One that was strictly about the controller. It was an entire article where they just boasted about over 50-some changes they made from the 360 controller.
