The last platformer to have mandatory characters that aren't Sonic was ten years ago. Unless you could Sonic Rivals 2, but I wouldn't.

Well I'm counting alternative characters like the crappy werehog, though that was almost 10 years ago as well. They were just on the right path with Generations. We don't need this crap. All they needed to do was create quality levels for the two Sonic characters.

Gotta keep some stuff for DLC since we all know that character creator will be popular.

Ha, yea

Just figured they were picking Sonic clone animals like cats and birds (Blaze and Jet) that they'd go with Espio, Mighty and Knuckles. Everything is a mammal, except for birds, a lizard would have worked nice to be something different.

This is really cute and seems to be a pretty smart decision to appeal to both fans and kids, honestly. It's pretty endearing how it has "DRESS UP" as a menu header, too.

I am so done giving a fuck about Sonic. Jesus Christ. This franchise could not possibly be more fucking wack than it is right now.

Half-decent level design? nope
Physics that lend themselves well to Sonic's design? nope
Solid visuals? nope
Music that isn't puerile and grating? nope

Character creator? FUCK YEAH! omgoadsjkhgkljhdsf

Don't you just loooove Sonic's friends? Now you can be one!

fuck this
fuck that
and fuuuuck Sonic

Caught a glimpse of a "Randomize" prompt when they were on the character config page. This seems funny in a good way, I want to see how the people who are genuinely weirdly into Sonic feel about it.

The werehog is definitely the worst alternate gameplay style, but I didn't mention it because you seemed to take more of an issue with non-Sonic characters. The custom character in Forces still looks like it plays like Sonic so I'd say they're not straying too far from what works. Now if only the level design didn't look so shit...

Can I import my OC from Toontown?
Seriously getting that vibe from these monstrosities, though.

Why does it feel like their ideas are old and they're evolving slower than everything else.
They're still trying to make it look like only 2D is classic while 3D is modern.
Both are "classic" now.

This is legitimately cool. I want to see something like this in all anthropomorphic character games that allow customization.

I want a Porco Rosso pilot in Star Fox

Them being in the story I can't help but think:

Unoriginal thoughts do steal
because I had the exact same thought about the Crash Bandicoot episode of that Skylanders show and it turned out I was correct because the writers did just that...maybe ironically

SEGA are smart to feed into the "Original Character, Do Not Steal" portion to the fan base. Also, nothing wrong with allowing someone to make their own character to help Sonic.

Now you are Sonic's shitty friend.

Honestly, pretty cool - though the game still looks kinda bland, i just don't really see the appeal of the whisps outside of Sonic Colours and the gameplay looks solid, but i was hoping for something more fresh or even grand in its scope.

Why would you think this was specifically a sequel to Sonic Colors?

I don't know if it necessarily means it's a sequel but from the OP:
Each customized Hero will have a grappling hook as a means of platforming, and the characters can be customized further via Wispons, which are a new take on the Color Powers from Sonic Colors. The Wispons are unique gadgets that can be used both as weapons and for traversing through levels.

Also the user created character seems to have its own levels that are combo 2D/3D ala Colors.

I had a bit of a hunch with the tone of the game so far. This definitely seems to be aimed at the... more imaginative fans of the series. Which is fine with me, since Mania has me covered. Besides, these guys haven't really had a game since Sonic 06, and we all remember how that turned out, hahaha. I actually showed my little brother this trailer, and he freaked out. Not sure how many kids are big into Sonic nowadays, but I'm sure this will do well among them.

Many people acting as if this is the only feature Sonic Forces will offer. I don't think that is the case.

Although it does give new meaning to the "Google <Your Name> the Hedgehog" challenge.

People on GAF crying as usual cause a 2017 game isn't appealing to nostalgia or exactly what they asked for (oh wait) but you know people are going to love this. You also know if it's half as good as Generations it's at least a pretty good game too.
