Why do I hear so little about 3-6 mafia?

So many memories. First song I heard was 'Late Nite Tip' in a car with way too many subs, high on E in Portland having just arrived that same day to meet people I only knew from online gaming, on our way to Mt. Hood.

Was amazing. Such a long time ago. I'm old now. I will always cherish Three 6.

I blew out a sub on that one.

I remember being in middle school or high school and hearing stay fly and Poppin my collar. They weren't that bad, but when I heard late night tip and sippin I was confused as to how this was the same group lol

Somebody gonna get Thier ass kicked

Was just talking to someone today about 3 6. I found some producers on soundcloud that are putting out beats just like early 3 6, love it. Probably some 16 year olds in Sweden haha

Apparently DJ Paul said he was going to start shooting up homes in Memphis because his equipment kept cutting out during the show yesterday. The article described him as Three 6 Mafia's DJ Paul, so I guess at least they're kind of still in the news.

How did the beef with Bone Thugz happen? Bizzy Bone mentioned his Triple Six rivals on Notorious Thugs and When Thugz Cry.

I think it was basically someone saying the other group was stealing there sound but I can't remember so I may be wrong. They dissed bone thugz on songs and skits. They also beefed with pastor troy at one point and everyone that eventually left their record label lol

They thought that they were stealing each others styles. Specifically Infamous and Koopsta of 3-6. It's unclear who started the singing + fast rapping flow

Dj Paul and Juicy J are two of the most underrated producers in rap history. There early work is insane and they pioneered sounds before they had a name.

Some of my favorites.

IIRC Bone caught feelings anytime someone tried melodic or speed on their own and didn't collaborate with them. It's been so long I barely remember what it was about.

Ahead of their time in many ways, they showed that great production and charisma can make you overlook terrible lyrical ability and iffy flow, although they improved over the years.

Most Known Unknown would definitely rank in my top 20 of favorite albums of all time.

UGK is the goat southern group though, followed closely by Geto Boys.

They're basically horrorcore, which puts them in the same category as ICP.

And their name is 666 Mafia. That 90's edge ain't en vogue these days.

You mean the Academy Award-winning 3-6 Mafia? I don't know. But I remember being shocked as a child when they won an Oscar, even after realizing years later it was deserved.

edit: Wait that was in 2006? Feels like I was way younger when that happened. I was 18 apparently...

There's a duo rap group from nola named the $uicideboy$. Heavily influenced by 3 6, one of the members produces all their stuff and he samples A LOT of 3 6. Definitely worth a listen if you're optimistic.

L.A. Club Resource reissued the old tape Paranoid Funk by Lil Noid in 2015. If you like old Triple 6 you should definitely check that out. It knocks.
