don't really want a live orchestra. i want spider man to drop down from the rafters upside down and it be tom holland in character lol

I was surprised when certain people in the games media had a problem with this format last year. Personally, I love it. More time showing games and less time telling me about how well the PlayStation division is doing.

They prefer the Microsoft style conference where devs come on stage and spend a few minutes talking about how Microsoft has been a really great software partner and how they helped them take advantage of Xbox hardware to provide an incredible experience for gamers. Also name droping popular things in popculture right now.

Then Celebrities and Business CEOs come on stage to talk about how great the Xbox platform is.

It is the worst. Why should we care about how many buzz words they can spit out in a few minutes before a trailer? Just show the trailer. Very light introductions (think of how Herman introduced Horizon) are fine.

I just wish they'd stop giving shit tier vg bloggers/streamers screen time during these events. It's so #hellofellowkids it isn't funny.

I still think these press conferences should simply just be 1 hour and a half long movie like video with a little hype in the beginning and have it slowly build up until the massive shoot, blast finale of an ending with a little bit of feels at the very end or comedy.

Sounds like your problem is with Square Enix and Ys Net, Sony is not making those games. And Horizon came out and was great, not really seeing the problem here.

My issue is just that the big announcements that make people think Sony "won" the last two E3s, specifically E3 2015, tend to be stuff that doesn't come out for another 3 years. Yeah most of it is 3rd (or 2nd) party, but it's still Sony hoisting that stuff up to hype its platform. The Microsoft and Nintendo announcements may not be as immediately exciting, but it's usually stuff we end up actually playing within 12 months of the initial E3 showing.

I sincerely hope they have some news on the state of PSVR this time. Mines been collecting dust and I can't help but think I should have bought an HTC Vive.

You mean like crackdown 3, quantum break, scalebound, below, cup head, tacoma, ashen etc.... even stuff like halo 5 and gears were announced more than 12 months out. Nintendo announced Zelda more than 2 years out. Smt x fire emblem, smt switch, no more heroes switch etc....

Since I already made a post about this in another thread.
This is for you...
From Stage to Screen: How fast do conference games release? (PS4, Xbox One)

People keep asking OP to look at it with different parameters and OP obliges. So I would suggest going through whole thread. It is not very long.

I didn't get the negative reaction to Sonys fast paced approach last year. I know the GB guys were super critical of it and I just didn't understand it. While I understand the point they were trying to make, to me I just want to see games not hear someone tell bad jokes for 10 minutes.

Just comes off as old man yelling at clouds. Nobody really wants that talking crap.

Giantbomb crew sometimes just forgets that not everyone is in the know like they are. They might have some inclination about what some of the games are and want more information on said game, while forgetting that a lot of us are seeing these for the first time. It also felt like they were upset that they were unable to make fun of usual conference goofiness.

They also wanted Sony to announce Neo (Pro) to juxtaposition what MS did. This was one of the most bizarre reaction I have seen from them because not only did Sony outright say that they will not announce anything regarding Neo but what MS talked about amounted to "we have this thing, but don't worry about it because it is not coming out for next 1.5 years". It was also bizarre because one of the bullet point for MS to create Scorpio was to be able to offer something in the VR space, while Shaun (Sony) was like, "our base level box can already do VR".

They need to invite old girl that does the vocals for the Persona songs, announce a new game that's completely out of left field, then have her sing The Last Surprise immediately afterwards.

Death Stranding trailer + Spiderman gameplay and I'm good. A KH3 release date would be cool too. But I wants me some brand new IP's as well! Sony'll deliver the goods.

Good, E3 is too busy to waste time talking about stuff that could be in a press release. Sony knows who is watching their E3 conferences and they know what they want to see.

But do Crackdown 3 and Cuphead actually have people thinking Microsoft "won" E3? The tent poles of Microsoft conferences tend to be other things. Usually Halo or Forza or something regarding the Xbox platform. Sony conferences of late have been structured around those major game announcements that tend to be really far off, particularly the ones that still won't be out for a really long time. People seem to recognize Scalebound or Tacoma as just games, but explode when shown a few seconds of footage for Shenmue III or Deep Down even though they won't be out until 2018 at the earliest.

Hoping, like most of us (I think) for a conference like the last. Game after game, not a lot of chit-chat, keep the unnecessary banter to a minimum and let the trailers and demos do the talking.

This gif really just irks me. It's because I know they are paid actors and they are laughing. You know nobody said anything funny. They are just laughing.

Lol its so hard to unsee. Why do people do this, I dont get it

Well I mean they are paid actors. So I get it. and I think when that reveal happened it's obviously faster in motion so you really don't notice it.

But damn in a gif it's so damn noticeable.

have you ever thought that maybe MS doesn't have enough "new" big games in development two or three years out? They can show a halo 5 for the current year but then they can't really announce halo 6 three years out? Same with gears. They can announce forza Motorsport for the current year but they can't also announce forza horizon 3 for the following year... it is just known quantities as far as studios and games they have in development. I agree they do have a surprise game sometimes like a dead rising or something but for the most part they tease what they can and if they have exciting new games in development two or three years out they would tease it like scalebound, crackdown state of decay etc... too bad they are not e3 winning announcements and ms should be actively trying to secure those if they want the same reactions. The hardcore games announcements that win e3 are not something ms seems to be after and you can't blame Sony for being able to secure games like shenmue or ff7r with exclusive arrangements.

What?

Besides, Sony is notorious for announcing stuff that arrives some day. They even teased people with that FF VII render trailer back in the PS3 days, I don't get why people still get excited over something like this.

Gaffer Liabe Brave actually did an evidenced thread on this subject, and it showed that this gen MS has actually been slightly worse than Sony on the announce-release measure, and on a much smaller number of games.

Everyone at E3 is a paid actor to some degree, that's not unusual

What makes that image cringe is literally everything else in it, lol

That and we had a massive thread recently that showed Sony have the quicker turnaround.

The e3 a few years back... People had been waiting waiting waiting for FF7, Shenmue and TLG. At that point nobody really cared when they were releasing, it was just about confirming that the games were coming.

There really aren't too many "big" announcements like that possible. Hype for Crackdown and Scalebound is about in line with where Horizon was for example. People want big surprise announcements, balanced with games that are close by. There's a balance to be struck.

Yes?

MS announced Scalebound and Crackdown 3 in 2014 and it was received pretty well relative to what Sony showed. Some whine about stuff like that but people want new and exciting things.

You don't know that man.

Maybe the guy just said
"Can you believe we're being paid $1000 just to stand in front of 3 McDonald's meals?"

And then the woman added
"And I'm Vegan!"

So it's okay for Microsoft because their games have less hype?

I mean last years was just a glorified playlist of trailers. I get what they're going for but at some point they might as well just throw the videos up on YouTube and say here you go.
