Expect less talk, more games again from Sony E3

Not hating on the guy, and he has done well at other conferences in the past, but man, he was on poor form at PSX. Go back and watch if you don't remember, he was constantly stumbling over his words, avoiding the teleprompter at all times and at one point he had a
really awkward coughing fit.

I definitely think he was just sick or somewhat under the weather that day given the coughing and seeming dry throat stops. PSX 2015 (and last E3) you could see him all energetic and quick, like with the FF7R gameplay trailer.

Good to know. The last 3 years under Layden have been pretty fantastic.

Still lacks the Jacky T swagger, tho...

Great. Now about showing some games that actually come out in the foreseeable future. All these great games but no dates.

In all fairness, wasn't there a thread here recently which showed that Sony releases more games revealed at E3 within a couple of years than MS or Nintendo does?

Lol I think that's practically become a staple of Sony press conferences. Expect ~25-30% of the games to not be released until 2019
Pretty sure vaporware is more Microsofts domain recently, other than that Capcom game. As for games coming out waaaay later, don't they release most games in a reasonable time frame?

I didn't say they'd be vaporware, as in never coming out, but I remember the E3 2015 where we got announcements for FF7R, Shenmue 3, Crash Remastered, and Horizon with the earliest (Horizon) coming out 2 years later, which isn't that long, but still

Crash Remastered was announced E3 2016.

Sony isn't developing FF7R or Shenmu 3.

From Stage to Screen: How fast do conference games release? (PS4, Xbox One)

People keep asking OP to look at it with different parameters and OP obliges. So I would suggest going through whole thread. It is not very long.

Whaaat

Nooo

2015 had The Last Guardian (first) gameplay demo, Horizon (first) gameplay demo, Uncharted 4 (best) gameplay demo, FFVII Remake reveal, Shenmue 3 reveal

"Pretty bad" might be hyperbole, but it was way slower than 2016 and had stuff like spotify talk and the Disney Infinity section. If you cut out the fluff then yeah, it would be on par with 2016.

I'm gonna say something that might be kinda controversial: I think Sony's last couple E3 conferences have been more hype than substance. A lot of announcements people want to hear but not all of it materializing into real games soon enough.

This goes especially for E3 2015 where Sony hit us with FFVII Remake (nowhere to be seen yet) and Shenmue III (still pretty early). Last Guardian came out and was great. I actually forget what was at least year's conference other than Horizon. I'll have to check back at that, but I remember getting the same feeling of just a bunch of announcements that sounded cool but not as much in terms of playable games, or games that would be playable soon.

Why bother, it's much easier to just create your own narrative.

Sounds like your problem is with Square Enix and Ys Net, Sony is not making those games. And Horizon came out and was great, not really seeing the problem here.

Sure! Those are hilarious clips. These are what we remember long after the games announced have been released and played through.
Some of it is funny but some of it was boring talk like, "This is out most immersive open world yet". That is the kind of talk we'll get with people on stage.

It depends on what you want to be remembered for.

There's being remembered in the sense of Konami 2010, and there's remembered in the sense of Twilight Princess or Smash Melee.

I'd like Microsoft to take the same approach, but who am I kidding. I expect they'll say '4k' more often than sony will talk in entirety.
Only slightly serious...

Good, last year's was probably the most enjoyable E3 conference I've ever watch, don't think I could sit through another which has a dev awkwardly come out and talk every 5-10 mins for 3-4 minutes. Another live Orchestra would be great too.

I was there, he was sick, and it was also the first time I met him in person.

Good thing no one said Sony games in particular. It was simply about game's at Sony' conference

Not sure how this contradicts what I was saying. The data is from 2013-206 and states 23% are still in development, which admittedly falls slightly lower than what I said (25-30% of the games taking around 2 years to release)

I don't know why you guys are getting mad. I didn't say anything controversial. Sony's E3 2015 conference, as well as a few of their other ones, had a number of games that took a while before they had release dates/where released. I didn't say they were the slowest

"Sony is getting better"... it's just easier to make great presentations when you have the best games. All multiplats are coming in the PS4, plus all PS4 exclusives because of the non existence of Xbox in Japan, plus Sony's 1st party that is basically better than MS. They dont need to rush any development (as we can see, with so many delays...), they can just show what is great, all the time and everytime. Microsoft cant delay a game for 6 months and they also have to show games early in order to try to create some hype and try to turn the sales figure...

But man, that orchestra was fantastic last year. I dont expect to see it again, though.

They have no more charasmatic mouthpieces anymore, so probably a good call.
most definitely lol. not really a fan of Shawn he comes off as a non gamer so I prefer their last year's show approach . more of that is absolutely positive to hear. I assume death is stranding will be going dark? if so cool more dev time

So getting all of those things to happen is easy? lol
