Grapple thing on his arm? Wonder if you can pick something else.

edit: it also shoots flare? seems to be multi-use

Well not that it's any surprise but I'll just have to be patient for MH5 on switch which I'm sure is coming. I have invested ridiculous hours into Tri through Generations. This looks good to the eyes but not sure it's got the MonHun feel I'm really craving. Picking this particular game up probably comes down to cross play between the three platforms actually which is so sad. That dream is already dead isn't it?

At first, I was worried when I saw the rumors of how it is westernized, simplified and stuff like that.
After watching the trailer, it's doesn't seem as bad as I feared. I would have to see more to make proper judgement but I am pretty ok with what I saw. Graphics were disappointing but it's still much better than the current MonHun games (except Chinese online one)

PS4/XBO/PC are like one big platform -- they can basically make one SKU. Switch is its own thing, like WiiU -- hard to justify making exclusives for it, but being a handheld hybrid helps. That's why I'd be wary about expecting Switch to get MH5. If World does well, I could see it sticking on the big three. 3DS is getting old -- seems like they might want to move on, and PS4/XBO/PC is gonna have a larger install base than Switch.

Capcom won't abandon the handheld MH game but they will likely have the 2nd team (aka X, XX team) work on it. Monster Hunter World is probably going to be the main line for awhile, considering it's made by the main team which is MIA since MH4U.

This is the same as what shown on stage.

So, this is going to sell a lot less than the 3DS games in Japan and a lot less than Horizon in the west, right?

I don't understand Capcom management, at all. They're going to release this and Dragon's Dogma on current gen in a few months time?

It looks like it's just extended bits from the trailer.

Thankfully. I'm glad they're trying new things. There's more than enough traditional Monster Hunter available for me to play.

I'm not against this game being different. So long as MH5 is still a thing and plays li ke the normal series should.

I tried getting into 3 Ultimate before but it was too obtuse and being on the 3DS certainly didn't help. If this is a more streamlined game then count me in.

You're absolutely correct, but that's the thing here: there's no effect at all. Jumping GS attacks are practically guaranteed to be a crit, so seeing it missing is rather jarring.

I wouldn't know. Never used a GS or any other weapon for the matter except for when your forced to use specific weapons in arena challenges. I'm exclusively an LS user throughout lol.

I guess I'm just open to long-running franchises trying some new things, especially if the core team is behind it.

Two of my favorite games are Resident Evil 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Yeah, it's basically a bit more B-roll rolled into the reveal trailer. It does seem to support my idea that it's not an open world in the sense of what we consider them to be, as the climbing and flying bits are essentially seamless transitions between major areas, along with the major areas themselves retaining their arena-like nature. I expect that the game will still feature monsters that have preferred ranges of areas that they traverse, but it won't seem like it because of the lack of loading screens to break it all up.

I'm the exact opposite haha. I wish companies would just make more new IP's instead of messing with pre-existing ones.

The stealth mechanic does seem pretty odd there. just duck into a bush for like 3 seconds and aggro is lost
I'm gonna guess that it won't be like that in final release, probably tweaked just for showcase purposes. Most of this trailer seemed to be them showing off how the game has evolved, rather than showing actual representative gameplay.

Remember people, this is a reveal trailer, not a "gameplay" trailer, and it's still a year away.

The stealth part with the Anjanath (I'm assuming) is so strange looking. The hunter isn't even hidden in foliage or whatever, the ghillie suit item that doesn't even cover most of his body just makes him essentially invisible when he's 10 feet away from the monster and sticking straight out of the grass from the waist up and it looks right at of him.

Resident Evil 7 also turned out pretty damn good after experimenting with the game.

Gonna be tough not to double dip on PS4 and then PC, guess it all depends on how long it takes for the PC version to release.

Yeah I noted that as well.
