Nintendo Spotlight Presentation (their E3 conference) to be 30 Minutes in length

Status
Not open for further replies.
No. Unless the info comes from the "conference" itself it doesn't count. Even before treehouse, Nintendo would reveal additional stuff on their website, but that never counted either. This rule has been passed down the generations. Nintendo has 25 minutes to deliver or they can kiss their whole future goodbye.

Might be a joke but it is true, even though I thought Sony was pretty solid, they had a lot of new info before their conference and that hurt the presentation.

So basically, overnight we went from "no metroid games" to TWO metroid games. Sure why not.

Also, what are the chances that we will see FE Switch?

It can also boost the overall E3 presentation. Surprise announcements after the show (like Brawl, OOT3D, etc) can have a great effect.

Of course Nintendo also has a weird habit of randomly and stealthily announcing games in the E3 press kit. That's as little fanfare as you can possibly give to a game lol.

I'm calling it, Overwatch Switch could be announced. Jeff Kaplan expressed interest, and surely Nintendo would want 2016's surprise hit on their new console, especially a version you can take with you... Right?

Not happening. Maybe someday, but we won't hear about it this year. I'd love to see Overwatch on the Switch, but it's a long way off when Blizzard's engine/platform-related decisions were locked in so early that they haven't even bothered with Mac, which has an established core market for Blizzard games (and one could reasonably claim that Blizzard is the dominant presence there). That, I've long speculated, came from a decision to skip OpenGL and keep an ear to the ground with respect to building the Overwatch engine to support Metal. That Blizzard hasn't done this yet, combined with Jeff Kaplan's comments about the technical hurdles to bringing Overwatch to Switch, strongly suggest to me that it isn't happening.

Hearthstone remains my guess, though I understand the reasoning of the people calling this for Diablo.

But a true wild card from Blizzard would involve The Lost Vikings.

This. Sometimes Nintendo have the best presentations...or the polar opposite. Doesn't help that they don't focus on E3 as much.

So please set expectation levels low to avoid that possibility of disappointment

What makes you say that? Nintendo Directs have allowed them to spread out big announcements, but if anything, their presence at E3 has increased in the last few years.

I'm guessing these three for the riddle

Metroid
Kirby
Hearthstone

I think something like Hearthstone could be a hit on Switch.

Even for a show that promises to focus on 2017, I don't think it's beyond Nintendo to tease one big game for "first half 2018" and another one for an unspecified slot in 2018. It's worth keeping in mind that the spring release calendar is often headlined by a mass-market-friendly title (think of precedents like MK8 or Splatoon), which Metroid (for instance) wouldn't be, although we did get Star Fox Zero last April in what was a very quiet year.

And who knows: maybe Nintendo will call on Retro to provide an answer for the multiplayer co-op shooter market occupied in the west by Destiny, The Division, and Anthem. Maybe something leveraging a well-known existing IP. How about this: the players are all ground troopers in the Galactic Federation...
BotW also released this March. I'm curious about Monster Games as well. They were releasing games every 2-3 years on Wii and Switch. They last made DKCR3D in 2014 with Retro assisting. They started to work closer with Retro, so I wonder if they are working on project(s) together.

I'd like to see Star Fox turn into a multiplayer/co-op online shooter. They could make a standard SF64 style on-rails campaign with local and online Co-op possible. However, have the focus be on the online multiplayer modes. Two multiplayer modes available that can be played single player with bots, local multiplayer and online. First mode is a strategy/action game where you play as the Good guys fighting the opposing team across the galaxy. Star Fox, Star Wolf and new characters are playable all equipped with different ships, stats, upgrades/powerups. There is a 2d overworld map where you control and navigate 4 different characters each turn to a different planet either going after an enemy base or fighting off the enemy. The goal is to defeat the enemies' bases as well as the Mothership/Great Fox. When enemies face each other it turns into an online dogfight battle. Each playable character has a small unit with it that supports it in battles against enemy teams or when taking on bases. Different ships have different mech transformations that allow different battle strategies depending on the map. The mode can be played with 1-8 players. In 8 player matches it is 4 Vs. 4 each person controlling one character on the team. When other characters engage in dogfights, the others not involved control their teamates' support unit in the dogfight and take on the enemy. Winning online matches allows you to upgrade characters ships and increase variety in ships. Other mode is online dogfights without the strategy element allowing you to select the character, the ship and then just jumping straight into online dogfights. There are also different online modes in ranked dogfights that allow for different playstyles/missions.

Maturity, bitches.
Remember when E3 wasn't livestreamed so you had to rely on news outlets and info came from the showfloor and trailers? I heard a lot of "conference or bust" people died during those days because they couldn't take it. It's a pity, if they waited only a few more years they'd still be with us today.

Not gonna happen. An Overwatch port would take a lot of work. Any announcement would be super premature, especially since a port doesn't even exist at the moment.

There were these things back then called television stations that aired the conferences.

It seems like a weird idea to go with two Metroid games. There'd be enough hype for one of them, and it's not a huge franchise like Mario that can release together within a three month window. Even if one of them is on 3DS and one on Switch, or if one is FP and one is 2D - they will eat into each others sales. Unless they spaced out the releases, in which case why not just show one of them.

I mean there's already two Mario games and two Fire Emblem games coming to Switch.

I'd still be incredibly happy with two Metroid games, just questioning the marketing decision.

This was nothing new. Remember Metroid Prime? Remember when Metroid Fusion came out along with it?

Kind of middling e3 for me so far and im not really expecting ninty to turn it around. Probably same as sony just re-enforce what people already know is coming not expecting any big surprises. Probably have the most interest in the 3ds games that'll be in the treehouse stuff.

I want Retro to move on from Metroid. I don't want them to be just known for one series. I want them to either work on something new, or put their touch on a different Nintendo franchise.

DKCR was a great in showing the company is more talented than we ever imagined. It shows they are versatile. I want to see more of that.

Yeah, I'd much rather see them do a new IP than another Metroid or DK. It's almost their studio's 20th anniversar, and it'd be nice if they branched out into a third IP. Another dormant Nintendo franchise would also be ok. F-Zero, maybe? (although I'd like to see Sakurai tackle that one)

I mean, these are just my personal thoughts on the issue.

But imagine Capcom USA trying to sell XX to people in the west next year.

They could try to sell it to us this year.

I'm going to be pissed if we end up not getting the game we know is good and instead just get an unproven experimentation.

I'd genuinely love a DK64-style game from them. With an bigger emphasis on non-linearity that the original already had.

I've crossed the threshold of expecting disappointment and now I fully expect something wonderful

I hope to take a return trip before the show tomorrow

Metroid
Kirby
Hearthstone

I think something like Hearthstone could be a hit on Switch.

If Blizzard contributes anything, Hearthstone is by far the likeliest for a number of reasons:

- Lean and efficient development team with mobile porting experience; this decision could have been made and delivered on quickly
- The game is built in Unity, already known for rapid porting to Switch without demanding much additional API/platform expertise
- Cross-platform play on the Switch (i.e. support for third-party network infrastructure) has effectively been confirmed by Minecraft cross-play
- Free-to-play—no barrier to entry for new players and minimal risk for Blizzard (as opposed to launching a physical retail title like Diablo into an untested market)
- Exceptional fit for the hardware itself (portable with capacitive touch) in ways already proven by Hearthstone's success on mobile

And let's not overlook how much the Switch would stand to benefit from a game with a huge established user base (with no barrier to adoption on additional platforms, either in terms of price or carrying over user data) in a software environment that currently has no non-demo free-to-start titles.

I'm not getting my hopes up for it tomorrow just because of the riddle game, but Hearthstone on Switch makes a world of sense.

HA! What a charmed life you've lived. Before those things called televisions aired the conferences, you had to wait a month for a magazine to print the announcements from E3.

Did someone say Blizzard?! Finally, North American version confirmed!

I've kept myself from getting hyped about this presentation and have generally expected Nintendo to cover games that have already been announced. Now I'm expecting two new Metroid games along with something from Hal Laboratory and Blizzard. My hearts going to be crushed in about six hours when it's proved to be otherwise.

I'm quite sure it is going to suck. Every time it sucks, specially with Reggie saying it would be a great E3. The Pokemon Direct was just the appetizer.

I only remember a conference where they showed lots of games one after another, but the rest were just ok or simply bad and dissapoiting. The last years it has been crap after crap. Some people say the Sony conference was bad, but it will look good compared with what Nintendo does at E3 this year, at least they had games in the pre-show.
