I don't see this instance as "anti-consumer" because the only people it really affects are the owners of the other consoles with smaller player bases, who aren't customers of Sony and so aren't entitled to their business decisions benefiting them.
What the heck is all this anti crossplay stuff? If a developer wants to support crossplay then Sony should allow it. Where is the downside? Is this a stealth console war thing?
Game communities shrink on PS4 when games get older. This is for everyone.correct +1
Only Microsoft is moving to be more PC-like because they completely failed to make it as a successful console. Sony is going stronger than even the PS2 era right now and have no reason to introduce crossplay. If they somehow start slipping in marketshare they might want to future-proof by allowing corssplay, but for right now they can only lose. For current projections, Microsoft is more likely to fold as a competing console than Sony.PlayStation will become the smallest player base and it will only get worse as the incentive to choose one of the other unified platforms will be greater.
Edit: Everything has been moving towards being more PC-like the last few years so it's very clear where we're going and Sony is very clearly going to be on the wrong side of history here.
Great job!. Letters are still powerful and mean a lot because they take more effort to actually make. Hopefully Sony see it this way as well.
I hope you don't mind, my wife ,who is a professional writer, was nearby and had a minute so I had her look it over in exchange for a neck-rub. She did some... light editing lol.
Thanks man! And tell your wife I said thanks, too! Writing isn't easy, I remember when I used to write short stories, I would bring them to other writers and editors. They would then proceed to tear me a new one. It's frustrating, and it led me to actually cry once, so I'll take all the help I can get!
Anyway, I'll post the letter early tomorrow morning. I'll throw in this picture I took, which reminded me that I really need to clean my work desk, and basically everything in the house lol.
Hoping we can get some change here!
The communities will shrink on the other consoles when they get older and even faster with little playerbases they started out at launch. Not even PC games are immune to the death knell of declining player numbers. If a community becomes so small that it essentially dies on PS4 then that's it. The other console communities will have died a lot faster already on the other consoles, meaning they are the ones that need the PS4 playerbase, not the PS4 users.Game communities shrink on PS4 when games get older. Pet of the Month indeed. Legendary. Also, what games do you play on the watch in your picture?
The console divisions have been established for decades. Map packs hurt communities that are already at max and are divided further. Crossplay for a dying game is like when a dying MMO consolidates its servers so NA, EU, and other region servers are all on a single server, which only ever staunches the hemorrhaging player numbers and has never successfully made a "hold out" until they could get back on their feet. But if they're all in the melting pot, they last longer. They might even survive long enough to hold out and establish themselves. Look at the fighting game community having to draw lines on which platform they go for. This is no different than the movement away from paid map packs. You divide your player base, you stifle it.
I really don't care. My consumer needs are currently being met by Sony so I have nothing to complain about in this situation. PS4 is currently the largest market for most multiplayer games and for the ones that aren't it has crossplay with enough PC versions to pick up what little slack there is.

It's not Sony's responsibility to cater to Xbox/Switch customers, however if devs are saying that they would support it but Sony won't allow them, then Sony is responsible for that action. Say a couple of friends with different consoles who want to play Rocket League together? They don't give a shit about what is best for Sony, they want what's best for them. Sony's decision would be prohibiting one of their customers from playing with their friend. That is anti-consumer. Another example, you pick up a hidden gem or an older game with a great online mode, but it takes forever to get into a match. If Xbox made up even 30% of that game's sales then your chances of finding games jumps up 30%. It's a win win for every consumer, just not for Sony.
In the past there was no hope for crossplay, but now we have devs that are willing to support it. If Sony caves in on this it would arguably be one of the biggest milestones in the evolution of console gaming. If it doesn't affect you then that's fine, just know that it affects others and this would be amazing if it happens.
F*ck that answer... why would Sony be against bolstering the online community of a game...I bet the devs that made Evolve or Battleborn would have loved if their games could have had cross play to expand their playerbase...I could think of so many more.
Sony isn't prohibiting a PS4 owner from playing with their friend because their friend does not own a PS4. The result would still be Sony supporting another company for no benefit to them. Sony isn't responsible for your ability to play with another player who has a different console. You have your consumer entitlement just up until it no longer falls under their territory. It's not Sony's responsibility to cater to Xbox/Switch customers, however if devs are saying that they would support it but Sony won't allow them, then Sony is responsible for that action. There is no negative to the PS4 players because they already have the largest playerbase or access to the PC playerbase. However, it hurts Sony because if crossplay is allowed that's X number of people not buying PS4s to play with their friends. So Sony has no reason to stifle its sales for no benefit to existing players by supporting companies that can only erode their market share. Is having a bigger player base and able to play with their friends on other platforms somehow hurt PS4 players? What's the negative side to this?

Why are you defending Sony's rights over the interests of the consumer? Why shouldn't we feel entitled to the ability to play with whoever we want? Sticking up for a company over the gaming community makes no sense whatsoever.
"I don't care and I'm here to make it clear!"
lol
Because for it to work there must be a proper balance. If Sony gave me free consoles and games that would certainly be in my interest, but they would go out of business pretty fucking fast. If Sony restricted PS4 players from playing with other PS4 players or raised PS+ subscription by $200 I would be pissed and drop them like a hot potato along with the majority of the subscribers. I'm not sticking up for Sony, I'm saying I don't care because my consumer interests are being met already. And my first point was that consumer interest only extends to those who are actual consumers of a service of product that a company gives. Other consoles players don't fall under that. Why are you defending Sony's rights over the interests of the consumer? Why shouldn't we feel entitled to the ability to play with whoever we want? SE is making FF7R because it will make them money.
Sony got rid of the controller due to feedback and potential lost sales.
And so on.
Of course this could get loud enough to make them think they'll lost money because of this decision, but that's what I mean. They aren't for the players. It's foolish to think they are. They're a business.
Btw I'm not defending them. This is simply anti-consumer. I want cross play. But lets not fool ourselves. The only way they'll reverse their decision is if their analysts think this backlash will hurt their wallet in potential lost sales.
Change.org was a mistake.

It's shit in SFV , too. I always filter PC players outConnection is alwAys shit when PC vs Ps4 players in rocket league. This shit has been on the front page of neogaf for 4 days now in some kind of thread. Bottom line, Sony doesnt want to give xbox one players their bigger installed base to play with. Get over it
With a option to turn off... maybe yes.
It is good to have options but like I did in SFV I will first turn PC users off... I'm not suppose to play against cheaters due cross-play.
I'm not a really support for this feature because I don't like it.
? My connection is fine no matter who I play with. If I'm lagging it's usually my own fault whether I see psynets in the lobby or notConnection is alwAys shit when PC vs Ps4 players in rocket league. I'm not gonna get over it because some guy on the GAF who I never met is telling me toGet over it
