Xbox One X - Available November 7 for $499

How many elite controllers did MS sell in the end ? Maybe it could give a rough idea of the market size of people interested in quality but expensive hardware.

over 1 million in less than 9 months
was heavily! (way more than Ps4 Pro, or Switch for example) supply constrained in the first 3 to 4 months

Phil made this point, they couldnt make enough to meet demand, it was very popular.

Im curious.

Could someone come up with 3 best things to come from buying this system for someone that already owns a pro?

I guess i always thought this would be the console for vr but that went out the window.

I assume forza would be 1 point. What else does the scorpio best the pro in?

I have both the Xbox One S and PS4 Pro. However, the majority of my gaming time goes to the Xbox One S and pretty much all mulit-plat games are bought for the Xbox One S.

As for why get the Xbox One X?

1) Obvious better hardware. (Honestly, hardware was all the talk when both systems launched)
2) 4K BD drive. (Yes, this is a big deal since I enjoy to have a collection of 4K discs) (even though the S has this already)
3) Native 4K gaming
4) Better broadcasting integration (even though the S has this already)
5) Prefer exclusive games on XB (I do enjoy a good PS4 exclusive, but there's only a few that I actually say "yeah, that was one kick ass game.")

I guess that's more than three. :)

MS stores have the machine on display. It's really slick and smaller than I envisioned from shots on the internet.

Curious as to why you play multiplats on the S.

I'm in the same boat but I play my Pro constantly because it is the better hardware and all my multiplats have been going there because of that fact. I'm certain most of my game time will go back over to the X once it comes out. And also to downplay the exlusives on PS is kind of eh seeing as how the last exclusive I played on my xbox was Gears 4.

The hardware sounds nice but the advantages it would have over my pro would probably be incremental. If they are huge and in many games than yes that's appealing.

My s has the 4k drive. And.im really not so sure on the exclusives front for now. Between Sony and switch me is looking dire.

Why I play all my mult-plats on the XB? I've always been an Xbox guy since the original Xbox....even though I was already playing on the first Playstation.

Ever since the Xbox launched in 2001, I've been more drawn to that platform. I do respect the PS system and some of it's games. MLB The Show was the reason why I purchased a PS3 and PS4...and obviously because Xbox doesnt have a baseball game. However, TO ME, the PS systems has never been the better system. I stress "to me" because I know how some people get. :) And that PS controller, yuk. :)

I'm not downplaying the PS exclusives. There's a few I purchased and really enjoyed such as Horizon, Until Dawn, SOMA, and some others that I cant remember. But I'm not going to say that ALL PS exclusives are top notch games because for me, again, for me, they are all not. Only a few.

Also, I'm not losing any gaming experience when I play a game on the Xbox One. It's the same game, same game play, and I have fun. What am I truly losing out on....may some grass blades here and there?

Some games have double the pixel count on PS4 Pro compared to Xbox One. If you don't think you're missing anything you should save your $500 this holiday season.

I hear ya on that front. But with your last argument, from your standpoint, I'm guessing you are not getting the X since it doesn't change your experience of the game. I'm being devil's advocate of course.

I have a friend who's the same. He owns a PS4 and an Xbone, and the PS4 gathers a thick layer of dust in between exclusives hes interested in (i think in the past year, he's only played Horizon and Uncharted on PS4). He just prefers the ecosystem, and that's where his circle of friends are. Makes sense to me.

Understood, but this guy has a Pro and an S. If you are only playing some choice exclusives, it seems it was a waste of money to get a Pro system. No?

Besides, I actually really like the direction the Xbox brand has been in for the past couple years. Initiatives like backwards compatibility, cross-platform play, EA Access (which Sony admitted they flat-out denied taking part in), and the Xbox Games Pass are wayyyyy more pro-consumer than anything Sony has introduced. Even smaller features, like the baked-in Looking For Group functionality, that's actually really cool.

You could cynically say that those have only been introduced because they're in second place and need to do something, but at the end of the day who cares? The consumer is who wins out in the end.

Some people have money to spend, lol. I don't know what to tell you, other than it's probably not your place to suggest how someone should spend their earnings.

I was going to post something similar, but you pretty much nailed every point that explains why I prefer Xbox as well. The only thing I'd add is that Bing/Xbox rewards add a ton of value to the platform for me. I get most of my games for free or at least half-off thanks to using both services regularly. I also use that to get my yearly subscription to Xbox Live for free too!

I'm pretty sure it didn't come off that way as I agreed on most points and was interested in the choice of another. Calm down.

lol what? it's a rectangle
To each their own. Any console is going to be some kind of a rectangle. What really makes the One S and One X beautiful to me is the form factor. Simple, slim, small, and sleek. No unnecessary angles like on the PS4, which make its dimensions larger than needed. I know it's completely subjective, but that's my opinion on it.

What? Explain this to me :p

Gladly! Xbox rewards just gives you free currency for buying digital games. They also offer "missions" for buying certain games that I rarely take part in. It's free to sign up and then you just check in every now and then, do a survey once a month and see if the missions work for you.

As for Bing rewards, you sign into Bing with the Microsoft account you use on your Xbox. If you do the daily site/mobile searches every day you can get about $10 in Xbox credit per month granted they don't run any promos. They also offer quizzes and daily bonus points that can push you towards getting more. Based on their point conversions, you can also save up and get a year of Xbox Live Gold for the same amount of points as about $35 in store credit.

You're also allowed to have up to six accounts per household, so I just have some friends/family that made accounts and let me manage/use them. I only do five atm but they give me the rewards I earn and I generally get at least $50 per month in store cash. Only slight hiccup for some is that you need to use Edge to get some of the extra points offers. Shouldn't be a problem for most though.

HAHA I see what you're doing there! :)

Yes, I'm planning to get the X model at launch time. I understand why you asked because of the comment I made. However, I'm the guy that must get the better version of a platform.

I bought the Xbox One at launch, then purchased the Xbox One Elite bundle. When the Xbox One S launched, I bought that too.

I can say the same thing for the PS. I bought the PS4 about 5 months after launch. Then sold that to get the PS4 Pro after a few months after it launched. I may stop here with the PS4 Pro even if Sony comes out with something else in the coming years just because I dont game enough on the PS4 to justify the purchase. I guess we'll see.

Yup. AKA just use Edge.

Imo the 360 is the best looking console ever. I wish they had gone back to it. Very striking design. Though, this one is pretty good too, wish they had kept the dot pattern in the front.

All these initiatives make me wonder how well the XB1 would have been received had they come out with these things in 2013. I imagine still behind Sony overall, but the sales may be more like 1.5:1 as opposed to 2:1. I've actually spent the last 3 years telling myself I didn't need an xbox and the only thing driving a potential sale for me now is the 4k player.....but in terms of the ecosystem and services they've built the past few years? I'm honestly impressed.

A lot of PC gamers seem to use Xbox controllers as well, so I am not sure to what extent this could be indicative to the One X market.

I'm not OP, but I do the same.

For me, it comes down to Xbox Live's superiority and controller preference.

Same here, Pro for exclusives, everything else S plus Elite Controller. Also I will only pay for one subscription and Gold is much better value.

Better controller.

I would have preferred to play Battlefront with the X1 controller but I wanted the better graphics so I went PS4. That dilemma is over this fall.

that's basically how i felt with Wildlands.. i guess i'm one of the few who's in love with that game but i bought it on PS4 when it came out.. now with the 4k patch update and stuff, i might have to double dib in November.. lol.

Yeah, Xbox Live doesn't get enough credit. I'll admit that I still don't think the interface is the most user-friendly thing in the world, but Xbox has been much better about keeping a steady stream of meaningful updates and new features coming.

Same here! Have an Xbox One S and PS4 Pro. The Pro is strictly used for exclusives. Everything else is Xbox One S. The Elite controller, Xbox Live, Achievement system, backward compatibility and vastly superior library management all plays a part in this.

The Xbox One X just adds to this for me.

I just hope it does really well. The more people who own an X and a Pro, the more developers will bother with making optimized X and Pro patches.

And I hope to see X versions take advantage of the hardware even if that makes them superior to Pro versions. I just don't know if that will be a reality until the X sells well enough.

Me too. I was really negative on the console after seeing that e3
commercial
presentation, but in hindsight I spoke too soon. IF they can deliver some decent exclusives, at least 3 per year until 2020, and somehow ensure it gets the best multiplat experience, I respect what they're doing. I've mulled a gaming PC build over the years but couldn't be bothered tinkering. That thread recently, something like "the latest OS update slowed my gaming PC" is terrifying; the X can cater to THAT crowd. Plug and play gaming PC 4K power with a handful of annual exclusives.

I look at my Switch and see a whopping $800 spent on what amounted to Zelda, Street fighter, and puyo puyo. Little playing until Mario this Winter. Sigh.

Meanwhile the X has game pass + 360 BC, the best online infrastructure, apps integration for everything minus apple/itunes (but the HDMI in is great for the apple TV), and at least a steady 4K/30 on everything. For around $800 total too.

Still though it's hard to top the value proposition of PS4 Pro.
