Spider-Man E3 2017 Gameplay - PS4 - 2018

What if it was all a ruse and the main antagonist is Peter after having been "posessed" by Mr. Negative in the helicopter, and it's the origin story of Miles while we get thrown back and forth playing both Spideys? lol

Ain't happening but I'm hoping something interesting happens with Miles, it would be nice to have a mentor/student relationship with the kid.

Watched the video for the nth time and only just realized how great the score is. I wonder who's the composer and when they'll reveal it.

It might be Boris Salchow; he did A Crack in Time, Resistance 3, Fuse and Sunset Overdrive, so he's definitely got some history with Insomniac. Music reminds a bit of some of the Resistance 3 tracks.

It does have a Hollywood aspect to it so I wouldn't put it pass Sony to get them a movie composer for this.

I mean might as well use Doc Ock since that would make more sense. And a superior plotline.

We will probably still use a camera - you can imagine him using it for evidence/Intel.

Plus it's way too good a mechanic to pass up.

Loads of Miles fanboys on GAF that try to make him happen for years now. I remember similar discussions regarding the Spideys MCU announcement (even tho I'm fairly certain they confirmed that it's Peter Parker joining the MCU we still had the usual suspects going "no watch them pull a Miles... or Peter is black! That's the only way to go or racist").
Miles is simply a crap character that got nothing on Peter. He wont happen any time soon, not in the MCU (I know about the animated flick) and not in any AAA games because the majority of the target audience doesn't even know who he is + they want the 1 true Spider-Man: Peter Parker.

I guess I am fine with Miles having a sort of guest star appearance. Could even go as far as having Peter take on a mentor role (although I'd still prefer it that Miles is NO Spider-Man but simply a normal dude for now). I most definitely don't want to play as him though.

Any news on the extended gameplay demo?

A posession/not-Peter plot twist is definitely not happening, but I can't help but think of Venom whenever they talk about the white spider emblem... I doubt it would be something so simple like that. Perhaps it's more of a personal symbolic kind of thing, why he switched to a new emblem.

Never had the chance to play those, so I haven't heard of his work yet, but whoever it is, their work sounds fantastic so far and I'm excited to hear the rest of it.

this is my game of the show just wish they would have shown more open world gameplay.

Rewatched the video a few times and it seems like there's a distinction between counters and possibly spider sense. Anytime there's a counter available the thugs flash in red and a circle prompt appears above their heads. But sometimes a blue flashing signal appears over spidey's head and I think it appears only before a thug is about to shoot at spidey. I think the blue flash corresponds to spider sense, but I'm not 100% sure.

Also, I think the combat is going to have quite a different flow to it than we might be expecting. Its crazy watching the video again how spidey essentially only ever moves by flipping and webbing around. Also, the combo meter is kind of interesting. It builds up even when spidey's just dodging attacks, and even during stealth takedowns. I'm guessing there might be combos we can execute only the meter builds to a certain point. Either that or some other type of reward - skill points perhaps?

Lastly, Insomniac nailed the slow-motion implementation here. Its soo smooth.

If people don't like something about this, or any game then they should be very vocal about it, because it encourages change. Perhaps not in this game - it might be way too late to alter or rework all the scenes where QTEs are used, but I would hope that said complaints have been taken into consideration by Insomniac for future games. If you don't like the posts about QTEs then why not just ignore them. It's not like it's something unrelated to the game, so it is up for discussion.

Vocal minorities should not be the only ones pushing for change, I like my QTE’s when done right and in moderation so I will voice it and keep on voicing it else it looks like most people do not care besides the people screaming against QTE’s.

yeah people might be jumping the gun with the Arkham clone stuff.

i hadn't noticed the meter building up during stealth takedowns though.

It is weird how many people who want to explain that Miles is a bad character also feel compelled to throw in that they were persecuted for thinking this by a racism illuminati.

A lot of features on Spidey's suit look like they can be customized. Pure speculation here, there's only so much you can do with spandex lol.

Spider-Man.jpg

The logo, the padding around the knuckles, some of the stuff around his boots, the webshooters, and maybe the segmented parts around his shoulders and forearm?

I wouldn't be surprised if we see some Injustice 2 type customization, where maybe the color of the suit might not change, but certain parts of it. Just speculating, but Kinda Funny Games did say they mentioned something about suit customization. Then again, this might just mean other costumes as means of fan service and so on.

Peter is a scientist in this after all, so I can see him making stuff for his suit in the lab along with other gadgets. If not, I'm down for other suits as well.

I'm pretty sure they already confirmed suit customization, need to look for source though.

Yes please. I hope they make the game like that, sure it can be funny and full of action but i also want those more dramatic moments with Spidey's suit getting damaged, blood etc.

I hope the game is aimed more towards adults.

Would love a moment like this in the game. I love scenes like this in general, but I especially liked the one in this issue. Didn't hurt at all that Immonen was gracing us with his art.

Hooo boy, Shawn Layden said that the games with a "2018" release window are coming in the first half of the year.

Hoo boy. And here I was, worried that I'd have to wait quite a while after God of War for Spider-Man. Still, I'd be surprised if it actually releases in hte first half of 2018.

Crossposting from the other thread:
So out of general interest I put together a list of what I think is all the villains that have appeared in a Spider-Man game in the last 20 years or so. The games I included were Spider-Man 1 for PS1 & N64, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, Spider-Man: The Movie, Spider-Man 2: The Game, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, and both of the Amazing Spider-Man games. I did not include Friend or Foe as I could not find a list of all villain characters.

I did not play all of these games (but a lot of them) so the villain-lists comes from Wikipedia. The characters are listed by name and how many times they appeared as a fight able boss, plus appereance in game without being in a fight. The exception is Black Cat since I do not know in what games you fight her and in what games she just makes an appearance.

Furthermore various incarnations of different characters are counted as the same, for example Noir Goblin in Shattered Dimensions is listed as Green Goblin/Norman Osborn. The female version of Doc. Ock in Shattered Dimensions is also listed under Doc. Ock so the list is fairly arbitrary.

Total number of games counted: 11

  • Rhino: 5+1
  • Venom/Anti-Venom/Eddie Brock: 5
  • Scorpion: 5
  • Black Cat: 5
  • Shocker: 5
  • Electro: 5
  • Carnage: 4
  • Doctor Octopus: 4
  • Kraven the Hunter: 4
  • Mysterio: 3
  • Sandman: 3
  • The Lizard: 3
  • Vulture: 3
  • Green Goblin/Norman Osborn: 3
  • Kingpin: 3
  • Hammerhead: 2
  • Calypso: 2
  • Green Goblin/Harry Osborn: 2
  • Wolverine: 2
  • Silver Sable: 1+1
  • The Beetle: 1+1
  • Morbius: 1
  • Shriek: 1
  • Boomerang: 1
  • Juggernaut: 1
  • Deadpool: 1
  • Hobgoblin: 1
  • Vermin: 1
  • Iguana: 1
  • Alistaire Smythe: 1
  • Chameleon: 1
  • Luke Carlyle: 1
  • The Tinkerer: 0+1

It is possible I missed some appearances or otherwise made a mistake, but I think this is fairly accurate. The biggest notable omissions is probably Hydro-Man. It's also notable that characters such as Hobgoblin and Chameleon only have one appearance each.

Who is the guy that Spider-Man is fighting on the cover of that comic?

Gameplay looks a lot better upon second sight.
The web swinging in the opposite direction looks weird still.

I do apologise if this has already been posted but I thought it was worth posting, just in case.

This is a fifteen-minute analysis of the E3 gameplay from, Chris Baker, an ex Marvel employee who has worked on many of their game projects including quite a few of their recent Spider-Man games. On his own website, he lists himself as having been the Steward of the Marvel Brand and approving video game submissions.

huh, on this video he says the Spider-Man voice actor is Yuri Lowenthal, but Insomniac has not confirmed any cast and Bryan said he could not talk about it just yet.

Thats news I guess

EDIT: the video is pretty cool

Well, yes, that is technically news, I suppose. Although, not to sound rude or anything, but anyone who's heard Yuri Lowenthal's work should be able to recognize his voice in an instant. That's Sasuke Uchiha, Yosuke Hanamura, a bunch of random thugs, workers, and soldiers, (teenage) Ben Tennyson, and once or twice before: Spider-Man.

I was a bit disappointed when I first heard him speak in last year's trailer, because his voice just sounds far too familiar and recognizable, often the same regardless of who he's voicing, but it's actually a really good fit for Peter. I'm happy with it. I would have much preferred Josh Keaton, but hey, I'll gladly take it.

Yeah, Josh Keaton is easily the best Spidey voice that i can remember.

I thought this all just looks so pedestrian and by the numbers. Nothing about it really excites me. Maybe it's just my typical AAA cinematic action fatigue setting in.

At this point I'm way more interested in the prospect of a fully fleshed out superhero immersive sim type of game. Frankly I'm surprised no one has really tried that yet.

Sadly, the only game I can see Josh Keaton coming back as Spidey in is MvCI. Josh voices Scott Lang/Ant-Man, now.
