"PS4 is like a 5 years old PC and it’s really holding developers back"

My biggest question about half step systems is how do we push the generation further if games are mandated to run on base model systems?

Probably for the best tbh. It would suck if games would only be playable on incredibly expensive hardware.

It was stupid to end the generation so soon and drop pretty underpowered systems out.

Base PS4?

OG Xbone?

I'm confused. Is this game not meant to run on these systems? Article is weird.

Full quote:

”Do you want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think. This is like a five-year-old PC. If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games. Most of the work developers put out there is to make them work on consoles."

Delicious (if genuine).

I see what they mean but isn't Scorpio pretty much the same thing with a bit more RAM and a GPU thats one step ahead?

Its just the way it is with consoles. Besides, I feel you can get more out of a Pro than a PC equivalent.

Its not that Horizon looks like dog shit, even compared to high end PC games.

Oh, are we at that point of the generation already? Can't wait for Kinthalis and Alexandros to come back on alt accounts.

There is no such thing as "holding back", when will people realize this?

A Way Out is a new game from EA and this game is made by the same developer that was responsible for the brothers which is kind of like co-op kind of game, an indie game that is pretty much ever available on PS4, Xbox and PC as well. Now obviously the new game A Way Out is pretty interesting as well. It’s going to be a co-op based as well. It’s obviously still an indie game so, it’s not like a huge AAA title and but this game looks really interesting. And obviously that got some media attention until the developers are kind of in the spotlight right now.

Did a 12 year old write this?

We aren't even ready for next gen. The tech isn't there.

Hell the one X is already $500.

Also none of this matters because these games are required to support the base model.

Not sure how it's holding back devs more than PS4 or Xbox One since that's what games are being built for.
It's honestly been fine for a more optimized experience that struggle to hit 1080p
Edit; ah, not about the pro then.
It's fine enough. We'll get a PS5 in a few years. Let devs get the most out of these new systems for now

That article is a copy editor's nightmare.

Reading it a second time, it looks as if a console warrior wrote it while waiting for their CoD lobby to fill up.

This is a really poorly written article. Otherwise yeah the PS4pro is just an upgraded ps4 and both are old tech. Saying the Pro is holding things back is weird though when the ps4 and xbo are significantly worse.

If it's holding developers back, why don't they blow our minds with stuff on PC than? I always hear these stupid excuses about the limitations on consoles yet I've have yet to see them really show us what they can do on the PC landscape to justify such a response. Besides better graphics what other advantage is there???

Am I crazy or does this make no fucking sense?

"This is another statement that kind of fits in into the hole apparently kind of narrative, now obviously we knew that the both Xbox One and PS4 and specially Xbox One, is actually kind of old tech."

I mean, anyone with any technical knowledge already knew this.

My GPU alone in my PC is 6.5 teraflops, before the 4.4ghz processor, DD4 ram, etc..

The consoles are painfully weak.

If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games.

What kind of point is he trying to make here?

Yes, obviously "if consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games" but, that will *literally* never happen.

Like, never ever never.

Why single out the Pro when it's the second most powerful of 5 mainstream consoles out right now? Xbone vanilla is holding back games more than the Pro. Switch would be even more if 3rd parties remembered it exists.

PCs are always going to be more powerful. It's not breaking news.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The original Engadget article is talking about an OG PS4, not a Pro. No idea where techstunt inferred that from.

"You want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think," Fares says, pointing to the PS4 running his game. "This is like a five-year-old PC. If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games. Most of the work developers put out there is to make them work on consoles."

Also, weird comment considering their game is also meant to come out on an even weaker OG Xbox 1 as well.

"PS4 Pro is like a 5 years old PC and it's really holding developers back"

Then make games only for really high end PC, and watch your investment most likely become a failure.
