Bergevin bungles yet another contract. This is obviously a "we'll give him one more year and if he doesn't develop as we want him to (AKA if we continue to fuck his development up), we'll trade him next off season" half measure. Ugh. It had to be either 1 year or 5-7.
This signifies to me that he's going to be traded, just a matter of when now. He won't be a Hab in a year from now unless he explodes. I kinda hope he does and takes BargainBin to the cleaners.

Lower cap back then leads to a lower percentage of what an individual player could take would probably be the only hard factor we could point to. Whatever was negotiated...taking a cut, the long term (12 years?), the sell to win Cups, Geno needing to sign the next year...who knew how they got him specifically to that.

Very possible, but then why not ask for 2 years so you can hit UFA as fast as possible? That third year is strange. But I guess it's a little bit more term which may make trading him easier.
