Between the Destiny 2 bundle in September, and the high likelihood of Call of Duty: WWII and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 bundles for the holidays, I don't think it'll be hard for PS4 to maintain momentum this year.

Yeah, they've certainly got momentum on their side all year. And that's why I don't see aggressive permanent price drops happening for Holiday 2017. If Sony does drop, it'll be for the Slim $249 with a game. PS4 Pro could stay at $399 or drop slightly to $349, bundled games in either instance. MS pricing X1X at $499 gives Sony a lot of flexibility (if Sony even wishes to directly counter at all).

Worldwide, has Sony ever had so many bundling possibilities?

PS4 Slim + Starwars Battlefront 2
PS4 Slim + Call of Duty WWII
PS4 Slim + FIFA 2018
PS4 Slim + Knack II + Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
PS4 Slim + Gran Turismo Sport + Wipeout Omega
PS4 Pro + Destiny 2
PS4 Pro + Horizon Zero Dawn(w/ The Frozen Wilds) + Uncharted 4(w/ The Lost Legacy)
PS4 Pro + Gravity Rush 1&2 + Nier:Automata Yass Queen Ultimate Crossover Bundle

The last one is the least likely to happen, but damn, so many choices they have.

Not only in the US, Switch shortages everywhere.

Reportedly, they couldnt even solve that for Splatoon 2 week in JP for example

Not everywhere. There are regions where there have never been Switch shortages.

I wonder if they will change the supply chain to move some units into regions that need them?

Crash/Ratchet & Clank bundle a possibility as well, it exists already but could make a return for the holidays.

Its becoming more important by the minute tho. Some very common buzz words that I hear and see everywhere on conference calls and financial reports are ''sales from back catalogue'' and they are very important to publishers and platform holders as they see huge potential on it.

Right now, sure, a bunch of their back catalogue sales are still from products from this gen, so they are not so affected by it, but when we really flip the generation, this will change bigtime IMO.

Consumers are getting more used to be able to consume entertainment from whenever now due to how easy the internet and streaming services allow them to. Games will follow that trend too.

Of course, and I would expect both Microsoft and Sony to keep that compatibly going forward, but as of right now...last gen games just aren't enough to push a current system ...it just isn't. Especially considering how badly people wanted to leave that gen...I'm not gonna lie and say there aren't gems from the era that we obviously want to continue playing....but I think people are going to be more satisfied with the new games that are coming out for the new system they spent all that money to buy. In addition to older games being completely reworked in the current graphics of the system they just purchased.

Such a shame about Prey. Best game of the year.

It's done better in Europe though from what I've seen. Hopefully that and the PC version sales make up for it enough so that we can see more similar games in the future.

It would have been so much better if they had just come up with a new IP name for the game IMO. That and the fact that it was marketed horribly.

Question. As per quote "keep in mind the chart is by revenue" next to Zelda's ranking. Would that affect Crash, since it was only $40?

Jesus Christ reading all those possible bundle options for this holiday. The white pro destiny bundle alone will do massive damage. Add in a Star Wars and gts bundle as well and Sony is set up for a massive if not record breaking period come the holidays.

2016 also was ahead at the same point. Jan-Jun 2016: 1,580,163

PS4 sold 3,121,000 in November + December 2015. Add in October and Q4 sold 3,396,000.

Q4 2016 sold 2,915,000 despite the PS4 Pro launch and the price drop to $299.

Jan-Jun 2014: 1,576,000
Jul-Dec 2014: 3,108,000

H1 % of total year sales: 34%

Jan-Jun 2015: 1,553,000
Jul-Dec 2015: 4,175,000

H1 % of total year sales: 27%

Jan-Jun 2016: 1,580,163
Jul-Dec 2016: 3,521,045

H1 % of total year sales: 31%

I wouldn't be surprised if 2017 see's a 35% split for H1. H2 2016 was disappointing and H1 2017 seems to be making up for that with quality software and excellent price deals. Q4 will most likely be down again this year so I can't see how this year is the peak year.

I'm curious why you think Q4 will be down this year. They have destiny 2 pro white bundle, Star Wars battlefront 2 with probably a bundle for that too, probably one for gts, and who knows what else Sony has planned.

Here in Norway several webshops have cut prices on the Switch already, stock is full everywhere. Nintendo is not all that hot here inn Norway

Because it's stupid to do that. Everybody "knows" their perspective and it's still bullshit. Fuck them.

Corporations gonna corporate, no need to get angry at fellow forumites.

I'm curious to see if Sony invests much of the windfall into PS or if they are just going to milk it like Nintendo did during wii/ds.

Great to see Horizon still doing so well, are there any recent numbers on total copies sold?

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I never would have expected over 400k units for Crash.

Crazy how it rallied people.
Probably uncharted 4

It makes me so happy to have such a diverse top 10. It doesn't feel long ago that we were seeing an endless cycle of shooters and sports games making up the top 10.

This is exactly how I feel. It's probably because the month is june, but one can hope it may become a trend.

Crash and fighting games at the top. What a time to be alive.

I for one welcome the 90s renaissance.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Retail + digital, I suppose. Still, holy wow. I'm incredibly happy for this sudden and bursting Crash's reinassance, being a major fan of the originals (can't play the remaster though :( ). This must be one of the surprises of the year, so far.

Also John, as always :)P) I'm curious about this month's Switch-only chart: is between 20,000 to 30,000 copies as the minimum for being in top 5 a good guess?

What's amazing as well is that so many of those games are exclusives. Sony putting in the work this year.

- “Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy had a strong debut, reaching number 4 on the month’s top-seller chart despite having only two days in market,” said Piscatella. “Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy is the first Crash Bandicoot franchise game to debut in the top 5 since Crash Bandicoot: Warped, which launched on the Sony PlayStation in November 1998.”

And to think that some fans were trying to defend SFV's performance by the whole "fighting games are niche" argument.

Amazing month for both Tekken 7 and Injustice 2.

Games are part of that, for sure. E.g., will the ps5 years 1&2 be as lacklustre as PS4 y 1&2?

except for PS1...every playstation's year 1 & 2 are lacklustre....do you even remember the PS2 library before the MGS2/SH2/FF10 combo? There was a time where people thought Dreamcast had a chance because PS2 launched with Ridge Racer V (full of jaggies) and Street Fighter EX3.

i will argue that even PS1's year 1 & 2 were lacklustre in hindsight...

the way i see it, playstation's 1st party output becomes stronger only at year 3 and beyond and almost every Playstation (sans Vita) so far follow this pattern.
