Switch at 4.7 million | ARMS: 1.18 Million, Zelda: 3.92M, Mario Kart 3.54M

Another reason to want a proper Smash 5 than a Smash 4 DX

I don't think there is much more they can do with Smash on Switch apart from add to what they created with 4. The gameplay was great and it was already 1080p/60fps.

I think we'll see Ice Climbers, Inklings, a couple of ARMS characters and maybe even Rabbids, Rayman and Bomberman.

They'll be new stages to compliment those characters and a few remasters of some of the 3DS stages as well.

Hopefully a new and improved online system.

A great single player campaign might make it one of the best game ever.

Great numbers for Nintendo. Please announce the Virtual Console and a proper account system, that's all I ask. I want to join the bandwagon.

Eh, I'd rather they focus on the main game itself. An Adventure Mode would be nice, though.

I was thinking more of the old school Street fighter 2 arcade mode of sorts. Yes an adventure mode will be pretty cool too. Was just replying to the poster who don't see what else could be added.

The thing that you aren't factoring in is the fact Switch has been heavily supply restrained and this is likely to be the case until well into next year. I realise this is the same for the others but I'd expect Switch to end up number 3 just behind PS4 and Wii by the time they finally meet the demand. After that.....we shall see.
The only other system up there still supply constrained 4 months in was Wii. And it's constraints lasted well over a year.

Switch is hard to gauge real demand due to the low supplies. Even still it's tracking well versus PS4 and XB1 even desite their historically large upfront shipments.

Almost 12 million for Mario Kart 8 LTD between the two versions. After all of that Polygon doom and gloom, this will end up being one of the best selling entries.

Likely third after Mario Kart Wii and MK DS. Maybe even second if we don't get a proper Mario Kart 9 this gen.

With the success of Arms, Nintendo might put a focus on new IP more often. Iirc, Arms was developed by the Mario Kart team. So they shouldn't stop there. Get the Zelda team on something new, the Mario team, etc.

We could get really exciting results.

It definitely has a chance to become the best selling Zelda by the end of the year.

I doubt it. Each additional big exclusive will dilute the Zelda attach rate, and I expect Mario Odyssey to be the must-have Switch purchase of this Holiday season.

I doesn't really matter though, since it seems like Breath of the Wild will get there eventually.

This is great seeing the Switch succeed like this. Having two very strong consoles on the market and dedicated gaming devices doing well is wonderful.

Yeah, it won't happen by the end of the year, but it's worth noting that BotW still sold 1.16 million against Mario Kart, King of Sales, accounting for more than 50% of new Switch owners last quarter. I could see it holding at 25% attach rate for new owners by the end of the year, which (if it held at that rate starting today) would get Nintendo to at least 6.3-6.4 million copies sold before March 2018 if they hit their hardware sales forecast.

Switch has that special appeal that people are willing to double dip, triple dip on just for portability. I would for gta, overwatch and persona for example. There is a lot of potential here.

If third parties are smart they should jump in now

Nintendo did tell Zelda director to work on something new ;)

+1 to Switch. Finally was able to buy one at the Seattle target 30 minutes ago, there was actually 2 in stock, which is lucky because someone was waiting to buy one along with me.

It's crazy to think how many Switch units would have sold if there wasn't a Nand flash shortage world wide.

Splatoon is the new "Nintendo's take on popular genre" game. Additionally, every single new IP will be compared to Splatoon from now onwards.

Nioh: The Splatoon of Dark Souls

Unless you're okay with a sub-HD resolution on the Switch for both docked & undocked, I wouldn't get your hopes up for Tekken 7 on the Switch (for reference, the OG PS4 can't run the game at 1080p). DBFZ might have a shot, but sadly, not Tekken 7.

I'd be ok with a port that's scaled down somehow, resolution or lighting or texture wise if it meant we got an awesome AAA fighting game on the system. Pokken looks interesting but not really what I'm looking for. Anyways, off topic. These numbers look very promising and so I hope that next year we start to see some good ports come over.

Great ARMS sales.

You know I like Splatoon more than ARMS...but on the go, I actually prefer ARMS to Splatoon. With Splatoon you can only pretty much play the single player mode when you're on the go. With ARMS I feel like I can get more replay value more playing against the computer. I keep coming back to it.

They should put some bots in Splatoon.

I'd say Minecraft is the biggest third party game released on the Switch by far.

As for sales.. didnt Bomberman surpass half a million in sales?

definitely and looking at the Switch eshop, minecraft is always number one on it.

True. I would love overwatch on this! GTA would be good too. I was going to download minecraft on the xbox one, but since the switch is portable I bought it for the Switch.

I posted in another thread
some calculations of shipments for the best launches of all time. Since months can be different durations, I adjusted all values to 17 weeks to match Switch. I also corrected for regional staggering where possible (details in linked post). The results:

Code:
PS4: 6.99m (holiday)
GBA: 6.52m (spring)
Wii: 5.43m (holiday)
XB1: 4.92m (holiday)
NDS: 4.90m (holiday)
[B]SWI: 4.70m (spring)[/b]
3DS: 4.42m (spring)

At some point, Xbox One will slide down past Switch. But the other 4 platforms above it will almost certainly stay there forever (only GBA might be catchable, but it'll be years).

I did note launch season, but I'm unconvinced it matters that much. See below.

Actually, this is the exact same ratio of US sell-through to worldwide shipments as during March.

As I said above, I don't think this matters much. All but the biggest failures will sell out no matter what at first. It's the sustained level after that pulse which differentiates success from massive success. For example, if we ignored PS4's 2013 holiday and assume its 1Q2014 shipments were a March launch instead, after 17 weeks the results would still be higher than Switch.

I'll say it one more time, it's not really about how PS4 would sell differently during the spring, it's about how switch would sell differently during the holidays. Retailers would have bought at least twice the stock, Nintendo would have started production of the units at an earlier time to meet demand. The Switch stock would have been quite different launching in a holiday vs the spring, this is just how retail works. Switch numbers would be a million or two higher, I'd suggest a full doubling of launch month and then the ~670k a month we have been seeing after that initial shipment.

How so? GTA V on Switch would be amazing!

Grand Theft Auto has never appeared on a Nintendo console and has only appeared on Nintendo's handhelds in a handful of odd spinoffs.

When Nintendo was on top of the industry with the Wii it STILL didn't get a Grand Theft Auto title.

I'm happy for Arms, I think its a great game, I just am sad I havent picked it up for maybe over a week, Splatoon has definitely sucked all the Switch time I have, I don't think I've even exited out of it since downloading it, but I think that will make Arms feel fresh (eyyyy) when I get the urge to pick it up.

I hear all this talk about how Nintendo has few very games on the Switch but they seem to be all encompassing games. You can spend whole days in Zelda, Whole nights with friends in MK8, Spend apparently a week with Splatoon, ARMS can suck a few hours here and there and who knows with its DLC Mario is on the horizon thats gonna be huge, Pokken I don't see selling all that well, maybe a 2-3k I don't think it was THAT popular, but we will see. Xenoverse seems to be something people are hyped for. Oh and Mario +Rabbids as much hate as it gets I see a LOT of people wanting to get in on that gameplay.

If Nintendo can keep this big release title a month and sprinkle in with Indies and third parties, I don't expect GTA or Assassins creed, but those JRPG and indie devs who kept the Vita on life support will need a place to go to, and I think thats where they will find a home.

Breath of the Wild is huge, it's going to pull some nice numbers during holiday.

They need to make some AAA single player IP's now. We got a couple of multiplayer focused new IP's. Let's see some single player focused games now.

Fortunately Switch is also a handheld.

Both Nintendo and Rockstar should be looking at the golden opportunity here.

ARMS already selling more than I thought, it will hit 2 million easily over time. I thought it wouls hit a million, but didnt expect it this fast.

Yeah, I'm personally hoping Retro will surprise with a great, story-driven single player (focused) new IP, since they have a lot of talent.

If we count Wii u botw sales, its probably 5 million total by now
It's definitely over 5 million, in fact. 3.92 million for Switch and 1.08 million (and whatever was added this quarter) for WiiU.

Look forward to a new Donkey Kong game coming Q4 2018.

I like Donkey kong, but yeah I'd rather have a new SP IP out of Retro.

A more robust single player mode, and anything else that would benefit from not having to develop two versions for two consoles.

Plus an updated BOTW Link, possibly an updated Osyssey Mario, stages for them, a Xenoblade X (or 2) rep. Theres still much that could be done with a Smash 5.

A Smash 4 deluxe would be pretty much the Wii U game again. We'd be much less likely to get new content.
