Switch at 4.7 million | ARMS: 1.18 Million, Zelda: 3.92M, Mario Kart 3.54M

A more robust single player mode, and anything else that would benefit from not having to develop two versions for two consoles.

Plus an updated BOTW Link, possibly an updated Osyssey Mario, stages for them, a Xenoblade X (or 2) rep. Theres still much that could be done with a Smash 5.

A Smash 4 deluxe would be pretty much the Wii U game again. We'd be much less likely to get new content.
Smash 5 won't be happening foe years. I'm fine not using my Wii u ever again and getting smash 4 deluxe. We're bound to get 3ds and Wii U content, all DLC included, and new content like characters.

Ill eat some crow. After the initial reveal I did not feel that positive about it and didnt think it would still be doing this well.

The thing that eventually sold me on it was being able to play the system anywhere, which is pretty damn great as it works well with where I am in my life right now. I have all three of those games and was able to find a Switch in June and I love it.

really happy about the ARMS news. Jumping into party mode for a few rounds every other day or so is still super fun. Winning any ranked match feels like an achievement. At least for me cause im awful

Unless you're okay with a sub-HD resolution on the Switch for both docked & undocked, I wouldn't get your hopes up for Tekken 7 on the Switch (for reference, the OG PS4 can't run the game at 1080p). DBFZ might have a shot, but sadly, not Tekken 7.

The game is already 720p on the X1. As much as I want that game on the go, I'm not sure the Switch can handle it at all. Chances are it will be 480p or worse undocked.

Uh... Yes there is.

It's not worth it.

Most of the time when people around the net spout "proper account system" they are actually wanting transferable and multiple device licensing arrangements. For whatever reason they just can't wrap their heads around what an account system actually is, and what makes an account different from licensing arrangements.

There is such a thing as downporting. They can pull back on effects, lower texture resolution, etc.

The funny thing is that Nintendo actually has implemented account-based transferable digital licenses now.

You just have to do it via the console, not over the web.

Are you being intentionally obtuse? That's exactly what people want. Having an account that doesn't maintain the digital games you bought from system to system is marginally better than scribbling your name in the dust on your Wii and Wii U.

Does it work for all my VC games I bought in the past?

Wii U had an account system. It didn't have what one would call, a proper account system.

Switch has a proper account system. You can sign in with your account on a second system and download your digital games. I believe you can only have one active console however. Wii U couldn't do this without you calling Nintendo first.

You heard it here first, folks: PS4 doesn't have a proper account system either !

Super psyched to see ARMS reach a million sales.

1-2 Switch is more of a surprise, but I figure because it was more of a showcase game that some picked up.

Day 1 adopter. Got the neon console with a Pro Controller.

After Zelda, which I spent over 130 hours on, the console doesn't get much use. I can't get into handheld/portable mode that much since I don't commute, and because the flat back joycons hurt my hands for any game that can be considered complex--that includes Mario Kart since you have to hold down a button to go, then use the triggers while maneuvering the analog nubs.

I have little to no interest in Splatoon 2 and ARMS, so I am basically waiting on Mario and possibly Rabbids. But the switch does have a great Indie scene thus far. Once more games become available I will get back into my Switch.

Good for Arms, curious what it will do for July and later months.
Around 5 million 4 months later, sounds fine for a Zelda game, not groundbreaking though.
5 million puts it ahead of the vast majority of Zelda titles. What's unique here is that it will likely keep selling at least through until the end of the year. Nintendo titles also skyrocket in sales during the holiday season so I expect it to do pretty well.

It's almost as if releasing a game in June when kids have a bunch of free time and you have no competition is a good idea.

Expect game companies to learn nothing from this lesson, as always.

Yes...that's the only reason Arms sells, lack of other things to buy.

Didn't realize I could play all my PS3 games on my PS4 as well. Thanks for the heads up

You don't have to press any button to go in MK.

PSN has all my devices listed, I can easily switch licenses, when I buy a digital game from the PSN store it tells me what devices it will work on, there is never ambiguity. I can't recall any moment where I had to buy an old game more than once to bring it forward to a new console.

Granted Sony has less games where I want to do that, but if they did I would give them shit for not having proper support for it also.

If you want Nintendo to keep ripping you off when they make a new console and don't let you bring all your VC games forward, by all means, keep believing that this system is perfect and can't be improved.

edit: I'm not complaining about not being able to bring modern console games forward, I'm talking about games where you can reasonably expect BC emulation to be available on any device: NES, SNES, PSX, etc.

The success of Zelda is a wonderful thing.

The success of Mario Kart is a depressing thing.

Well said. I'm always so annoyed when people say software sells hardware. PS4 sold like mad out of the gate with ports of games people played <1 year ago. Wii U sold terrible but had/has great games.

Specs and features sell hardware, not games.

I feel like we'd get less content with Smash 5 if anything. The amount of content and characters in Smash 4 is something I don't think they can ever top in the series going forward. Since the Switch isn't a massive jump for Wii U I still think sticking with a deluxe version is the best route. Compared to the deluxe versions on the Switch so far, I believe they will also go all out and add way more than just 2 - 3 characters as well as overhaul a lot of the lineup. Just because it's a deluxe version, nothing stops them from treating it like a full new game either.

Not entirely, a system launching with Bomberman and Street Fighter 2 sent a worrying message to gamers that Nintendo might be forever stuck in the past. There was also fear that Breath of the Wild being on Wii U may have killed the systems brightest hope.
Sounds like an embarrassing fear to me, you ain't making your case here homeboy.

It's currently the 4th best selling Zelda game after being on the market for only a few months.
It has a very strong chance of becoming the best selling Zelda.

You're right, but we'll see.

Software sells hardware but the hardware has to not suck. I don't get the difficulty. You need to make a piece of hardware people actually wanna own before yoy can sell games to them.

And lol at the implication that the WiiU had a better array of games to play than the PS4 when it launched. The WiiU's librarysucked ass from the start and only got good like 3 years in. The PS4 may have had mostly cross gen games but they were numerous and were all improved.

So its reasonable to expect it to sell 12 million for the fiscal year assuming they can boost production for the holidays, right?

So...buy a controller?

I bought the Pro Controller /\. I also bought the silicon sleeves that add a bit of stability/cushion on the back of each joycon. I'm hoping with Nintendo, or a third-party manufacturer, makes a better sleeve for portability so that it adds grip for bigger hands.

You don't have to press any button to go in MK.

True, you can turn on the ability to not have to hold the gas button down. I've tried it. It's a cool feature. The point I was trying to make is I don't mind playing bigger/more advanced games on my TV. They look great and I love the Pro Controller. When I play in portable mode I like games like Metal Slug, Kamiko, Shovel Knight as it lends itself better to the d-pad, single button presses, etc.

Looking forward to Stardew Valley and Golf Story in portable mode!

The UE4 engine was probably a weird and false choice for this kind of game. PS4/X1 should run a game like Tekken easily with Full-HD.

That's why Xbox beat PS2....wait.

Games sell hardware, but you have to market it and make people aware that it exists. People who purchased PS4 at launch probably knew that there would be more games made for the system after the launch lineup.

Also, ports are still games.

Get ready for every single Wii U game to get ported.

Plenty of great games that would sell. Mario 3D World, Mario Maker (though I heard this is quite limited, maybe Mario Maker 2 would be better), Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Yoshi and Kirby, maybe even Captain Toad or Xenoblade X.

I wish I could buy them now! I feel left out because I don't have any interest in ARMS and Spla2n :|
