"Prove you have a viable warhead and carriage system. Then you have levers in negotiation."

That's the only way I can unravel the NK thinking.

Maybe we'll finally get to see the US' Star Wars anti missile system. I'm sure it exists!

Yeesh.

You're really pushing it, Kim. Honestly closing in on the point where if Trump flattened North Korea's military apparatus, as long as he made a genuine effort to minimize civilian damage I almost couldn't blame him for it.

It's still stupid and terrible and will be of no great benefit to anyone, but you're really forcing hands here, Tubs.

North Korea should more be worried the day everyone calls their bluff. China agreed to sanctions. This means they are also fed up.

If SK gave the go ahead, you could probably have B2 stealth fly from Whitebomb and carpet bomb Pyongyang within hours. The danger is, and has always been their artillery positioned everywhere aiming at Seoul. Unless you did a massive all out first strike, Seoul will suffer catastrophic damage. Not to mention woule create a ridiculous humanitarian disaster and probably crash the world economy.

North Koreans are starving. These sanctions take even more away. Eventually they will revolt or dictators just like every dictator in history will use all options left ie. Threaten a strike or follow through with one.

Seoul gets hit hard no matter what, let's not pretend like it's preventable if only we hit really really hard.

It would be far better for the world if we locked these 2 idiots on a children's playground together and let them resolve how they see fit.

We adults want a place for our children to exist.

So what is Kim's endgame?

Take away power from the hundreds of old generals that each control tens of thousands of troops. Consolidate power around his circle, take huge economic burden away from maintaining Soviet-based military infrastructure, redistribute young labour into construction/manufacturing.

He can say NK is safe from outside aggression with a tested ICBM.

Guys NK isn't going to do anything. This is just mutually assured destruction bullshit in response to Trump's fire and fury garbage do dissuade any military attacks on our part. Nothing will happen.

Intelligent move by NK here, despite what a lot of posters are saying.

They have no intention of attacking Guam. The fact they can threaten it is what's significant.

Continue being a fat despot ruler forcing money and power into the hands of one family while demanding to be revered as a God by the rest of the starving populace. Add in a some of the worst human rights violations, death camps, torture, etc.

I seriously don't think anything will happen unless we see US troops and South Korean Troops evacuating the population of Seoul ahead of time. At that point we will know that the US is going to strike for real.

I feel sorry for anyone on Guam if this has an even a remote chance of happening. Because I guarantee you that Trump doesn't care about Guam.

Yup.

Even the thought of losing Guam and it’s strategic importance for the US pacific operations will make any preemptive strike on NK too expensive.

That weird feeling when the one you fear isn't NK's dictator, but the US president....Of course North Korea will do nothing! That's not the terrifying part. It's how Orange Turd will react.

Given all you said, I'm not seeing why NK should be worried about anyone calling their bluff at this point. More to that point I don't see China going all in either. Where are the refugees going to go?

Then don't take the children's playground from them!

Lock them up in a vacant Walmart or something.

So what is Kim's endgame?

Trump just vomited a baseless red line that he is going to have to quickly sidestep or blatantly retract while giving NK plenty of credible ammunition to reject any talks with a country that just threatened them with nuclear weapons.

Basically Trump was just outplayed in the span of 12 hours with massive consequences

I'm hopeful this is more saber rattling from a regime that seeks deterrence, yet hasn't actually been a truly irrational state actor. But what are the odds we end up embroiled in two wars in the span a century due to attacks on US territorial non-states...

I have a theory.
Sanity of NK leaders is linked to US leaders sanity, which we know to be in short supply.
Or they're kind of apocalypse cultists and have a death wish.

I mean... this makes no sense otherwise.

Depends on how hard you hit. A massive coordinated nuclear strike evaporates most of North Korea. A massive conventional strike that targets all major military centers and bases eliminates 90% of immediate military response.

This is why you need someone rational in the White House. If the South Koreans say, green light. We don't care what happens to North Koreans, just protect South Koreans and Seoul, the goal becomes the total devastation and second strike capability of the North. But you are talking then of killing hundreds of thousands to possibly millions of North Koreans. It isn't an inevitability. Real second strike capability only exists amongst the major nations who have no first use, submarines, ICBM's that have orders to still launch in the event of an attack.

Though I agree, North Korea has prepared for decades that one day the US will strike and probably has ballistic missiles and mobile launchers and artillery ready to fire no matter how much of NK geta destroyed. Scary stuff to think about.

Breaking news!

North Korea has found a way to rise Metal Gear Zeke from the bottom of the ocean and declares that he now has the ability to fire a nuke from any location on earth, showing that he has the ability to play with other superpowers in the world!

Why would any country ever announce where it's going to attack? That said, I'm not sure why NK would want to provoke someone like Trump, the US military would make short work of the NK regime.

It exists. Problem is it'll be shooting down flocks of birds while Guam goes up in a mushroom cloud.

I'm still thinking this is nothing by the way. But Trump is really not the person you want to assume is playing chess against you when he's probably not even playing checkers.

I think NK has the pee pee tape and they are using it for the most massive blackmail scheme ever.

Even if Kim doesn't actually intend to do anything, does he not realize how incredibly fucking stupid Trump is?
