Bioware ends SP patches and content for ME Andromeda, multiplayer will continue

Mass Effect used to be my favorite game ever made and I absolutely loved the whole franchise but I have no desire to play this.

Oh well.

"We don't care anymore"

Kinda reminds me of 343 with Halo Collection.

No, at least Bioware were honest enough to admit that they were done patching the game. 343i still hasn't done that for MCC. They keep dangling the false hope of "we haven't forgotten about it! Promise!"

But still, this is why even at $20, ME:A isn't worth it. Should be free on Origin access by the end of the year.

The first Mass Effect game was a revelation.

Made me believe that there was still some fresh vision left in the games industry.

I loved the franchise but I couldn't go through more than 5 hours of ME:A. Decent characters, but some of the design choices were very questionable at best. Not what I was looking for, at all. Real shame.

You could have fixed this game with a well placed set of dlc missions

All you had to do was to acknowledge the mistakes made and fix them with more content

I love when I have to pay more to fix a bad product!

I'd rather it die than fix everything for an extra $20.

I feel like the only person who liked this game. And I played it before all of the patches that seem to have directly addressed a lot of the issues people had. Oh well.

Now the only way to fix and bring back the Mass Effect franchise is making the Indoctrination Theory true and bringing Sheppard back for Mass Effect 4. MEA was all a dream.

And an engine they struggled to make heads or tails out of.

It was like FF15 on Luminous; they spent most of that time fighting the engine.
See below, Bioware fked up during preproduction and planning.

Yeah, it's definitely work to transition an engine, but a lot of BioWare's issues with Mass Effect is they didn't actually put all the technology they needed in place before deciding to enter production, which is the much bigger issue, since you then have a game built on a foundation that doesn't exist yet.

By comparison we can look at basically every other game EA has shipped on Frostbite and see that actually working out for them. The only other one that really seemed to struggle with the final product was the canceled C&C game.

enjoyed my time with it (tho the endless amounts of combat eventually became tiresome). there was lots of dumb fun to be had. likely a game better appreciated by those of us not so seriously invested in the series :) ...

What an absolute shitshow. The only good news is that EA won't be finding new and innovative ways to embarrass this franchise and disappoint its fans in the future.

Aren't you also the only person on GAF who liked Dragon Age 2?

Just saying........

All about Anthem now...cause that ish looks amazing.

Anthem looks dope, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it (since I enjoy Destiny), but I can't imagine it having the soul Mass Effect had. Bioware was so good at creating worlds and characters you wanted to spend time with. Games like Destiny and The Division are not great at that.

I realize the game was a disappointment for many but hasn't the game been consistently selling well? I'm disappointed myself. I was hoping they would keep supporting the single player content because there was stuff there that I truly enjoyed. Shame if this is really the end.

Bummer. I would have probably bought any dlc for the game.

I really liked it. Enjoyed it far more than the first Mass Effect. My wife is playing it now and she's really loving it too.

Andromeda wasn't bad. it was deeply flawed.

and who said that i needed it to be paid ?

There are some things andromeda did well and plenty it failed misserably
It wasn't unsalvageable

I agree but given how Bioware have designed their open world games with an overemphasis on MMO quest designs,Im doubtful that they can make a decent single player component.
Hopefully they take the lessons they learnt with DAI and MEA and avoid the sheer tedium of the MMO-like quests that padded those games.

I sadly have a feeling Anthem is going to build on the MMO like quest design considering it's cooperative focus. I'm just looking forward to Drew Karpyshyn's writing. Considering Mass Effect and KOTOR are two of my favorite games ever.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Is performance fine on ps4 pro?

Yes, runs at 1800p via checker board rendering .. the IQ looked pretty good on my 4K TV. You can find it for $19.99 in a bunch of places too now. The patches did a pretty good job improving a lot of things about the animations etc since launch.

So, probably the best time to play this game now if you haven't already.

These news hurt! Loved the Trilogy.

Still have my Andromeda copy to play. Is it worth it? Or should I just cut my losses?

I have heard the story and crew quests are pretty good as is the combat and graphics.

You might as well give it a go and see for yourself

Fuck. Why couldn't they scrap Anthem and focus all of those resources on this? Is following the Destiny (albeit with a TPS) money that important? I guess it is...

In a way I hate Anthem for killing Andromeda, I know it's not fair to Anthem, but it definitely had a significant impact on what Andromeda ended up being and could not have been.

Because Anthem is a much newer, much grander, more profitable idea.

Thanks was always waiting for patches but since they stopped I might as well pick it up as a mass effect fan.

Dragon Age 2 had some great and refreshing ideas in there, but they also had alot of godawful issues in there too, mostly stemmed from not having enough time (8 month cycle).

The only thing that stood out for me for ME:A was the combat, and it was buried under worse shit. And they didn't have the short production cycle excuse either.

Sad to hear about the decision, but I'm not even mildly shocked. They'll come back to ME eventually, I'm sure, but not for a good long while. When some actually has a solid idea and plan behind it.

I'm definitely there with you.

It's sucks to see EA tuck tail and run away hard and fast with this. I guess that's the difference between a corporation and a company like Hello games. I was hoping EA would come around and let a part of Bioware support and build up the SP with more content.

YongYea uploaded a video about this and already the top voted comment is how Mass Effect Andromeda was ruined because of SJWs and Feminists.

Does anyone actually research things anymore before they comment or do they just spout the first thing that comes to their minds to be cool?

Whatever. Just slap this thing on EA Access and be done with it.

I think it's still selling enough. Granted my source is a Youtube video about RPG's making more money this year than last and I don't remember which youtube channel it was. Lol...

EA has been really quick (impressive, actually!) in putting up their AAA titles on EA Access super quick, to say nothing of their bombs. About to sub for TF2 and BF1 (and Catalyst). We'll see it in a few months probably.
