IGN: Skyrim on Switch first hands on gameplay video

... That's... intriguing. Why do you continue buying it?

I always end up getting it on sale. I only paid $60 at launch for the 360 but haven't paid more than $25 for the rest. And IRL people can't stop praising this game so I always try to give it another shot and get the upgraded editions

It's just an easy game to buy haha

You're going to buy it a 5th time even though you've never liked it enough to play for more than an hour?

Ok.

It's similar to GTA V which I also haven't gotten past the 2nd hour (own it on 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PC). There's just so many releases/upgrades that it seems like the new game to buy at the time.

I mean, there's no way this will have the full range of improvements from the PS4 version. It simply can't. The Switch is a fraction as powerful as the PS4, and the PS4 version runs at 30 fps, sooo...

I was about to get this...until Skyrim PSVR got announced.

Was quite a hard choice picking between portable or VR

I don't think I'll get Skyrim again. Everytime I rebuy it, I wonder why I did it. Gyro may convince me, and I may try to do an interesting build. The problem with Skyrim is it just feels so outdated TBH.

That's... why? What are you doing? I loved GTA V (first GTA story I've ever finished), but I've only bought it once. You've bought it FIVE TIMES, and you don't even like it? What the hell.

Yes, and it's listed for a November release.

Where is that listed? It hasn't been officially dated yet, right?

It's probably exactly the PS4 version with a few slider settings lowered, like draw distance across the spectrum, texture quality, shadow quality, reflection quality, etc... I really doubt Skyrim Remastered pushed the PS4 terribly hard considering the game was originally made to run on a PS3/360.

And the fact that the PS4 Pro version runs at native (not checkerboard) 4k.

I can't judge.

If they've got the money, why the hell not?

Ontopic, it's still crazy to see a handheld playing this game so well.

Then again I about plotzed the first time I saw Breath of the Wild running on the thing in person.

Whether you want to credit them or not, this is an insane handheld gen tech advancement from the last. Like jumping from an Xbox to almost XboxOne in a generation.

It's insanely impressive coming from Nintendo.

Nothing official, but it was listed for November 28th on Amazon before being taken down.

Since you like wasting money I'll give you my PayPal and you can just deposit it in there in future.

More considering it's gamecube level tech to that point. Xbox is more fleshed out than GC was, I love GC but in terms of raw power or features it was technically a tier or two under the Xbox.

To be fair the PS4 version is probably doing some 4k rendering while the switch will probably be 720p

Man...that footage is looking good. Wasn't planning to get this, but portable Skyrim?...man I'm gonna have to sell something to afford this and everything else coming out.

Start with your kidneys. Don't make my mistake and sell a lung. I don't have nearly enough breath to argue on the internet now.

This video didn't seem to really give much info. I am curious if the game runs at 60fps or lower, as a previously released trailer shows both, so we don't really know what to expect. Have they released this info at all?
I guess you missed the part where he said it was 30fps.

Okey I am like 90% sure this is based on the special edition

https://youtu.be/24kbanxCjPI?t=3m9s

https://youtu.be/3Zk1KJtG3dM?t=36s

Compare those 2 videos as the person enters riverrun. You will notice that in the special edition comparison with the original there is some foliage on the right on that house which didn't exist on the original. As the switch video shows the foliage exists in the switch video. So either it is a straight special edition version or it shares some assets at least. I put the videos at the exact moments you need to compare.

OK now I want Fallout 3 and NV.

This looks great.

Fallout 4 should be possible considering it was the same engine as skyrim. Anything last gen is technically feasible, just depends on how hard it is to actually port, and if the pubs/devs think people will actually buy it

It would be nice if we could get an analysis from digital foundry but I'm guessing since you couldn't play docked at the even that won't be happening.

This is Bethesda.

ALWAYS assume the worst first.

If you buy this and the port is fucked up in some way, you'll get no remorse from me.

I think they just can't (or don't want to) call it the special edition because there might be a few compromises, which would make sense. But definitely a lot closer to the SE than original.

What is going on with the person playing in that youtube video?

It still boggles the mind how much handheld tech has improved. I mean if you compare 3DS to Switch, purely as handhelds, the gap is truly staggering.

We've gone from this:

To this:

Sure it may not be impressive compared to Uncharted, but as a generational leap in handhelds... It's fricking insane.

You can't seriously compare 3DS and Switch as if they're 1 generation apart. The 3ds graphics belong in the early 2000s.

Of course an insane leap after more than a decade of graphics technology.
