They don't just randomly misgender people. They purposefully misgender transgender people. She wasn't representing a transgender cause.

Innocently misgendering her makes a lot more sense, which would put it in the category of "honest mistake", to which being called a "fucking idiot" is just an insult with no greater meaning. Regardless, from the child / young teenager's perspective she hears a guy call incorrectly identify her gender and calls them a "fucking idiot". I don't see the deeper meaning here.
