Project CARS 2 discussion thread (provisional release date: Septemberish 2017)

Yeah, Clio or GT5 are very friendly. Not the most exciting cars for TT, but races tend to be nerve wrecking. Besides, you usually run these in shorter versions of more popular tracks, which widens the track roster for those thinking variants are lesser tracks.
I don't think I've ever deliberately chosen the short version of a circuit in any racing game.

Has controller support been improved this time around? I spent hours configuring controller settings in the first game, and it still felt janky.

Next week already! Excellent.

Just had a thought about the OT too...Provisional Pole! A nod this could be the best racing game, overall, but we'll see when it hits. It's certainly provisionally in pole for me.

Your review code has tearing?

I guess I shouldn't be like that as there's very little of it. I mean, like less than 1%, but I have seen it. Just like I've seen other stuff, but that will have to wait for the review. I'll just say, that this game is looking, very good and if you have any doubts about it.... don't.

Yes, hell yes it has.

Screw it, I'm taking the plunge. If I can run PCARS 1, I can probably run this. IndyCar license + rolling starts is just too hard to ignore.

Considering it's bought paid for and sitting on my Xbox hard drive and I'm using an elite controller to play it that is very good news for me to hear

and add an Xbox x in seven weeks hopefully even better news.

Which outlet? That is, if you are allowed to say it. Because i want to read your review.

As for tearing, i was never very good at spotting it. People always make a great deal about graphics and i also like them, i just don´t always know how to properly analyze them.

I´ve seen so many videos of Pcars 2 that i don´t understand when i see people putting Forza or GTS above it. Playing it on ultra should be comparable to GTS, during gameplay.

GT games have never looked as good on my screen as the bullshots i see in the web, so i always look for gameplay performance, don´t really care about replay or photo modes.

Honestly all I needed to read to put myself firmly in the buy camp (controller and tearing were my only issues with PC1), but will wait on reviews all the same, just in case.

NFS: Shift was the game that started me on the long road to enjoying sim racers (couldn't nail an apex to save my life back then), so it'll be nice to return to the Slightly Mad fold.

Great to hear, I've already preordered on PC but nice to hear more confirmation that controller support is much improved.

Rgearding the controller play, I still haven't managed to get the video made I wanted to make but you can see this guide I made for Eurogamer and all of this is done with a controller. http://www.eurogamer.net/showcase/project-cars-2

Some cars are ok with assists off, some with assists on, in general it probably more fun with assists on depending on the power of the car.

What time tomorrow do reviews drop?
I think 1500CEST was mentioned.

Nowt wrong with using assists if the car has those assists irl, I don't get the 'you must drive with assists off otherwise you're a noob' ethos that a lot of sim racers adhere too

Agreed. Some of these cars are beasts and you'll struggle even getting off the line with some of the assists.

Hours spent with pad and wheel. I have to say much happier with the pad here than before.

This also echos that the controller handling this time around is so much better.

Seems from videos that forza 7 has the best environments of the 3 and GT the best cars. GT definitely looks significantly worse than the bull shots and the trailers suggest though. I played the beta quite a bit. I’ve always found Kaz’s games to look significantly worse during actual gameplay than the trailers ever suggest honestly.

Anyway, I guess there is a dedicated thread for that kind of business.

Great to hear the controller is so much better. I was gonna wait on this, but more and more I think I’m going to Day one.

I agree, I don't play with manual gears when using the controller. Always play how you find most enjoyable, there's enough options in there for anyone.

Been enjoying my review code for the last few days but oh God, i am rusty. I noticed that only other racing games i have played since GT6 are DriveClub and NFS (around 2 hours playtime) i think. My memory seems to be rusty too. Loving the game so far!

Not sure about everyone elses. But I staring right at my paperwork its 12:01am Est Sept 18th. Directly from Bandai

Wouldn't be the first time embargo's got something weird, wrong, what have you.
Thanks for checking and getting back to us, must have been busy days for you.
12:01am EST September 18 is 6:01 am CEST... In not even 6 hours now. We're not doing a separate review thread, or are we? I for sure won't be available that early ;)

Not sure. I can't hit it anyway by a bit I don't think. But sadly if a mistake was made, a large number of folks have 2 different times for embargos and many don't come to Gaf:(

Really wish I could capture PS4 Pro footage ;(. Elgato needs to hurry up and release their 4K capture card. Otherwise I need to look at the AV.io 4K - that shit is $500!

I use a av.io and am not in love with it even though its supposed to be windows native it has a number of odd idiosyncrsies and funny enough a number of them in direct connection to the PS4. The best way is to use a usb 3 capture card(hdmi to usb 3) that can do 1440p from the hdmi. Weather via hack or actual firmware upgrade. Which is a good medium ground.
FYI there are a number of internal cards that can do 4k. I can't remember the name of the brand sorry.

Also man 4k work in video editors...prepare for insane render times
