Star Wars Battlefront II |BETA| Execute Pre-Order 66

Beta appears to be broken for me? All of my classes are at zero, I can't equip any of the guns or cards I have unlocked, and post game all of the MVP icons are completely blank; no name, score, anything.

The dream of winning in GA assault is dead :(

Quit the current game (not the app) and re equip. Worked for me. Alternatively quit the app.

Didn't work for me, but I only had a couple of games left in me anyway. Legitimately bummed and kind of pissed I probably dropped 10-12 hours in GA, only saw the attackers win maybe 5-6 times, and I was only on that team once (first day of the beta).

Unrelated but I feel like Rey needs more health/defense. I get Maul being fairly squishy since he's a powerhouse, but Rey just fucking melts even with deflecting blasts etc.

In general I really think they should buff hero health across the board but reduce the health regen. I do agree with heroes regaining health, but I'm already seeing a lot of people rack up 70+ kills (usually with Maul) by playing very cautiously because the regen is so good. I'd like to see them a bit tankier if nothing else just it's infuriating to spend most of a match saving up for a hero, then you get two-shotted by a rocket droid or other hero from behind or something. Maul and Fett both have pretty good movement options to generally avoid that kind of thing, but Rey and Han's dash is not nearly as good. I have also gotten melted in a second as Maul if someone gets the drop on me or out in the open, but that was much rarer.

Basically the core gameplay is sort of there but the game overall misses the mark because it's lacking a lot of the smaller important mechanics that are needed to create a proper battlefront game; it doesn't encourage teamwork. There are changes from BF2015 that seem to wantto encourage teamwork but it's still missing what's actually added what's needed to properly allow it. It for the most part feels like you're on your own and not working together as a team or helping other players. It's missing a lot of things that combine to create more of a cohesive combined-arms game that the originals and Battlefield have.

Overall it feels far too simple and like there's not much thought put into adding much depth to it and the changes they've made seem to not understand what the problem with BF2015 was. The lack of depth with BF2015 wasn't to do with the weapons, it was the lack of teamwork the gameplay systems allowed.
I don't think adding mechanics that require teamwork necessarily promote teamwork. Hardly anyone revives, repairs or hands out ammo in Battlefield 1. The thing that makes Battlefront a team focused game is how difficult it is for a grunt to lone wolf. The TTK makes you crossfire bait. Battlefront 2 is still as zergy as Battlefront 1.

This game tries it's best at making sure you're heavily rewarded for avoiding the objective, lol.

Are you joking?

Play Heavy Clone on Theed and hit the MTT with your Sentry / primary fire every time the MTT gets disrupted. Or better yet, hit it with the disruptor yourself and then follow up with a sentry burst. Watch how many battle points you get. I had enough to call in Rey two spawns in a row before the MTT even reached the palace. You literally get 200 battlepoints just for touching the Ion Disruptor lmao

Same thing with Starfighter Assault, play a bomber and focus the objective and pick off the stray enemy ship that wanders too close. Watch how fast the points roll in.

Have you even played the beta? Come on now. The game literally dumps battle points on you for playing the objective.

I've been playing the beta (mostly Starfighter Assault) a lot and it seems like you do get a lot of points for randomly shooting down enemy players...plus you get bonus points like Kill Streak, Killed Current points leader etc...sticking with the objectives seems to get you points over the long term but short term you do get a lot of points for non-objectives...when you combine the objectives with the random shoot-downs it seems the points start piling up...when I focus on attacking the objectives I seem to only get 25 points or so while I get easily get 100+ for killing other players

Seriously where is Anakin frickin Skywalker, they take us to Naboo and they have Rey running around it annoys me.

DICE are having issues including Anakin in the game. Their excuse is the multi-eras make it hard to include Anakin and Darth Vader at the same time lol.

But yeah, it's dumb that Rey is in this beta and not Anakin, Obi-wan or anyone else from the prequels to fight against Maul.

After spending a bunch of time in the beta, I think the biggest takeaway for me is how good Starfighter Assault is. They have absolutely nailed it. I quite liked the mode in the 2015 game, but there is so much more to do in it this time around, and everything from the controls to the density of the map just makes it feel a lot more like the movies. I also find it a lot easier to rack up kills compared to the previous game. Can't wait to see footage of the other space maps.

Regarding the other modes, I have enjoyed those too, but I think there are some obvious areas where they can improve it. For instance, the gunplay feels like it could be tweaked slightly, as well as the hero system.

Overall, I would say my experience with the beta has been pretty positive. Whilst I think the ground based gameplay needs a little tweaking, I am still having a bunch of fun, and will be excited to see how it evolves. As for Starfighter Assault, I would buy the game just for that.

My feelings exactly. I tried Starfighter Assault last night on a whim, and I LOVED it. I normally find dogfights boring, but man, Starfighter Assault was fantastic. I loved dodging missile lock-ons as I flew under the big structures and whatnot.

Bobba Fett is kinda OP though, his ulti or whatever can take out a ton of ships. I usually bait them to follow me and such.

I know the loot crates are ass, but with no Season Pass, and the gameplay this good, I'm really looking forward to it. If the campaign is anything good, this is definitely going to be worth $60.

I just spawned in as Maul without a lightsaber, clipping my wings, dice?

Also progression and level are definitely tied to unlocks. Was hard stuck lvl 8 specialist, crafted a card, BAM level 9, upgraded said card, BAM level 10. Backwards thinking!

Not that I really want to defend DICE after some of the decisions they've made with this game... but actually they made a public statement in reply to a reddit thread saying the "excuse" you outlined was in fact a rumor and is not at all a problem with them including Anakin.

Really getting to enjoy the Strike missions. Overtime is such a great clutch addition. Had a few amazing defenses and some amazing steamrollings. Also had a few dumb teammates who did not k own how to pick the objective up, or moved it high into the castle so booby could get it or capture it. So annoying.

Starfighter stuff is good fun but I hardly touched it in BF2015. May give it more of a shot this time around.

Have a few ups and downs with Theed but I am looking forward to new maps.

I wonder what the chances are of DICE adding a claw BF Conquest mode into this?

65 kill streak or so with Darth Maul. Got killed by out of bounds lol.

30k in points, more kills than 19 other people combined and we still lose. I literally held a control by my own and kept the clones behind doors in phase 3 and my braindead team still wouldn't hold the central room.

the graphics on that Strike map are such a noticeable step down in quality from the first game...textures, foliage, lighting, water all look so plastic...what happened DICE?

Got 280 credits from a match i joined that was halfway finished lol. The most I've earned so far from a match and did almost nothing at that lol. Aside from this I've only been getting 100 or 180 so the 280 was weird.

I. Cant. See. My. Bolts!

Almost the entirety of the beta I was under the impression that Rey couldn't deflect.

Yeah it's pretty bad on Xbox One. Doesn't hold a candle to Endor from the first game.

Most of the times with the heavy class, the force shield doesn't dispaly when activated.

Pretty sure he didn't have it up as he immediately lost health when I started reflecting. The problem is due to the blaster bolt visuals in this game, it's nigh impossible to see the bolts that you deflect, as such I was under the impression (and a lot of other people were) that Rey could only 'absorb' bolts with her lightsaber and that only Vader, Luke and Yoda would potentially have deflects on their block.

once you unlock more star card slots and upgrade existing ones getting the 2nd tier of Hero ships is fairly easy (Starfighter Assault)...before I was wondering how players were getting these crazy high point totals but now I understand...I hope the PC community is strong with this game but something tells me it won't after the first few months...I finally unlocked Poe's T-70 X-Wing Hero ship...I didn't really like the abilities but it was fun...

Anyone else play Specialist and stand at the back with your binoculars and see how many assist points you get doing nothing? I had a sandwich and still racked up loads of points just scanning through walls.

I've noticed you insult your teams fairly frequently. Is it possible they just aren't as serious about the video games they play as you are?

Lasers should be something that they could fix easily. I am expecting some nice improvements for the final game.

You'd think so. There's been enough topics popping up in regard to them. And they can't be blind themselves.

Good to know. So where's Anakin? :(

I was actually quite surprised when I heard it was going to be Maul and Yoda and that's about it. At the very least I would have expected some combination of Maul, Dooku, Jango and Grievous vs. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Mace-Windu and Yoda. PT definitely got shafted in that regard (and funnily enough Maul is by far the most fun hero out of the 4 playable in the beta). They could even add Padmé or one of the clone commanders such as Rex. So much content to draw stuff from.

But Dice's decision making is spotty at times. Bring back a widely controversial and arguably overpowered bounty hunter (Bossk) for the Empire instead of Krennic for instance.

Perhaps. Perhaps you can also imagine that's frustrating when you're solo playing the objective and your entire team is either 1. still standing in the hallway while the control room has no clones at all or 2. we have about 80 tickets left for phase 3 and I am pushing back the entire clone team into their spawn and aside from 1 or 2 individuals, noone was putting in the effort to stand in the middle of the room in order to capture it.

And this is exactly we need some kind of voice communication. I could have called out that the east control room was entirely clear and we can take it or that they could easily go and cap the central room.

Anyone know if we will get Gungans or is it mainly Droids and stormtroopers?

Also looking forward to getting some Droid customisable stuff. If only they had more voices.

That's more than fair, yeah. I agree entirely re: voice communication. Would have saved me some grief in previous rounds, too.

Yep. You can get a nice bunch of battle points that way. It's a powerful tool, and will probably get nerfed at some point.

And this is exactly we need some kind of voice communication. I could have called out that the east control room was entirely clear and we can take it or that they could easily go and cap the central room.

This exactly why we DON'T need voice communication. I really don't want some try-hard yapping in my ear all match because he thinks his team isn't performing the way he wants to.

That's more than fair, yeah. I agree entirely re: voice communication. Would have saved me some grief in previous rounds, too.

Pretty much. I never liked playing Boba, Lando or Nien Numb in the previous battlefront. Because I prefer playing on the frontlines in order to help my team get the objectives. Which meant I played mostly Vader and Palpatine or Han and Luke. Now I loved Palpatine, because:

- Two other people get to play as Royal Guard (although they often buggered off to do their own thing - again, voice communication would have helped there)
- I could clear entire chokepoints that my team had difficulty getting through or clear objectives.
- I could spam tokens for other people to get imploders, rockets and whatnot.

Nothing beats that feeling when you're on Hoth or Endor and you're clearing out the bunkers with a shitload of stormtroopers at your back.

Now.. here's the 67 kill+ streak with Maul.

But this actually felt more like this:

I don't think adding mechanics that require teamwork necessarily promote teamwork. Hardly anyone revives, repairs or hands out ammo in Battlefield 1. The thing that makes Battlefront a team focused game is how difficult it is for a grunt to lone wolf. The TTK makes you crossfire bait. Battlefront 2 is still as zergy as Battlefront 1.

That's part of the problem as well. Adding those things might not always mean there will be teamwork, but it would still be a part of the game itself. At the moment with Battlefront 2, it feels like it's not even a consideration of the game. They might be few and far between at times in battlefield but they aren't as hard to find as you suggest. In the time i've played Battlefield plenty of people have done those things - they definitely aren't something unexpected when they occur. There is far, far more interaction with other players than Battlefront allows you to have and that makes it feel like more of a cohesive experience.

It being so easy to die and therefore you're better huddled near the other players in Battlefront does not make it a team game. There's a big difference between just not lone-wolfing and actually working together as a team by interacting with other players. All those smaller elements that are missing from the game make it feel too far simple and your actions ultimately something just for yourself. Battlefield and the original Battlefronts had more depth to them because they have those smaller mechanics in place, Battlefront 2 gets the broad gameplay mostly right but misses the mark in a few significant ways because it doesn't think of anything but the short-term.

Is there a change log?

Maybe they're going to extend it again...

There was something before the beta that stated that Luke was one of the challenges (X kills as Luke)..

Oh if only it could be true.

Does anyone know how to post on the official BFII forums? You need to have your origin account linked and have Battlefront / Battlefront II (beta). But I have no idea how my Xbox is linked and I can't use my Origin account for PC because I played Battlefront on Xbox One.

It just feels very confined and superficial. Which the BF2015 suffered from as well. I don't think I've ever played a multiplayer game where I've gotten "out of the mission area" as much as with these new EA Battlefront games. You can't push forward, you can't go to the left. You can't make a big turn with your Starfigher, etc etc. You're stuck fighting in the same streets and corners because that's all Naboo has to offer, the whole city is a big illusion. There is no destructible environment either, now I get that the original Battlefronts didn't have this either but why is it not in these new ones?

The chaos and fun you get in current Battlefield games is just completely missing in these new EA Battlefronts. It's confined, superficial, repetitive. There is no depth here beyond the amazing presentation. Which is sublime. Sigh.....making good Star Wars games is apparently much harder than it seems I guess.

The best part is when im being shot at by people and as i approach them to shoot back, i'm suddenly "out of the mission area" lol.....what kind of bs is that?

Anybody have a link to the "leaks" I've read about in a couple places? Somebody said it was "confirmed" that Leia was gonna have her ANH costume. Really hoping for that.

How do we think the PC player base will be this time around? I just built a new PC and would love to get this there, but I don't want to struggle to find matches :(

I played Battlefront 2015 on PC the weekend before last and had zero issues finding games in the 40 player game modes.

I finally got to play the Slave 1 last night and oooooohhhhh yes, that bomb was SOOOO good.

I would bait people to follow me around a ship or something, then let the bomb loose as soon as I turned a corner so anyone in pursuit wouldnt have enough time to fly away. My best attempt at this netted 4 kills.

Any chance/word of Battlefront on PS4 supporting joysticks? I have a Logitech 3D Extreme that I purchased a year ago to replay X-Wing/TIE Fighter on PC and had trouble adjusting to using a regular controller.

I think both Slave 1 and the Millennium Falcon work well since there is a reasonable trade off when using them. Whilst they are pretty powerful, they are also huge targets so I find I get a lot more heat playing as them, compared to the Maul and Poe ships.

Saw the Beta update in my ps4. Is the Beta going to end today? or is extended again?

Would love them to push a patch that makes some graphics and gameplay changes based on beta feedback, just to test for another day or two. I know they extended till today but till the weekend would be nice.
