How many GAF Discords are there and why is it so hard for old, verified members to get an invite?

I'm only aware of the Friendship one. I didn't know there was a general GAF Discord.

They closed down the invites on discord because 4channers and gamergaters got in and were screenshotting what people were saying in the discords. Also spamming disgusting pictures. If you know someone who made it over and they're still on here, I'd message them about it to see what can be done.
I'm just so disappointed, as this was my home on the internet for the last 5 years, and where I posted and made threads for the last 3
Over 5000 posts and almost 400 threads, so much discussion, so much fun, and so many great memories
The community is what made GAF great, and had this whole affair been handled better then maybe this wouldn't have happened, but GAF doesn't feel like GAF anymore, and I don't think turning an accountable (if not perfect) mod team into the secret police is the way forward, neither is dictatorial censorship to cover up a whole host of questionable incidents
I don't see what the Dear Leader can do to salvage the situation, but alas, the community has moved on, a name is just a name and a url is just a url
For those who are staying, I wish you all the best for the future, and for those who are not, I'll see you on the other side

For right now yes, they are only letting in people on the discords who were verified by the mods on the discords as GAF users. I had to PM one of the Steam GAF mods here after joining the discord to prove who I was, then after signing up for Reset message a mod on the discord with my username on reset before my account was finalized.
They say they're going to open up public sign ups in a few days.

By the time I managed to get into a couple of the discords, I had missed the boat. Users in there that knew me couldn't get me invites anymore at that juncture. I just have to wait with the rest of the riffraff at this point.
I think both can be true. A lot of the element that caused a lot of the issues with gaf are over there now (a lot of the good people are too).
Era isn't a new start or a clean slate. It's basically gaf without Evilore (the lack of Evilore is the only "clean slate" aspect, that's it), with all the pitfalls that come with that.
At the same time, gaf is on life support. Maybe it can rebound, but I'm not optimistic.

I had rather hoped things would shape up around here, but the state of things does not inspire my confidence.
Honesty I don't know at this point, I imagine most discords are pretty locked down at this point. You may have to wait for the public registration.
I'm going to repost this here:
- Firstly, I don't need to cape for Evilore, bevause he posted a half-assed mea culpa, stopped posting, and actively shut down conversation on the issue through an opaque and anynomous moderation process despite leaving a massive, existential crisis for the site in the middle of the forum.
- There is no contingency plan regarding the future of this site, and we do not know if charges have been filed, by who, for what reasons, and what will happen if there is a settlement, a guilty verdict, or an exoneration. In any case, the damage has already been done to the commentariat by rashly shuttering the community threads, and severing any sense of loyalty between the administration of the site and the community. Many valued posters have left.
- Loyalty to this forum appears to be more about accomodating the owner, not the community, despite lip service to the tenets of a free and fair discussion. I do not hestitate to believe for a second that further damning information will be allowed to be posted here, and posters asking questions and requesting follow ups on the matter are swiftly banned.
- The accusation was made via a private facebook post, and matters of an intensly personal nature are going to cause divisions. The accused has a forum platform with posters proclaiming their support to his cause. This does not create a condusive environment for neutral discussion, and the forum has not even issued guidelines about how to approach this issue.
The correct mode of action would have been to take a leave of absense, and if that is in itself a form of punishment, so be it, these are serious issues of a serious nature, and even if I do not believe the accuser is acting in good faith, at least Evilore is. I do not have that assurance.
Lastly, things happen in relationships that people regret, after the fact. People can be made to feel taken advantage of, and dismissing this out of hand is betraying a misunderstanding of human nature. People are vindictive, and petty too, but at the end of the day, there is a mutual lack of respect.
Repect engenders respect, and at least one side has been known to have a pattern of less than repectful attitudes towards women in personal situations. If I were a lawyer, Evilore's past actions do not paint an especially flattering picture and I would recommend shutting this forum down, or removing himself from it.

Apparently they're doing another wave today of invites (mostly for Europeans and West Coasters that missed out yesterday), but if you manage to get into one of the discords in the next few hours you have a shot. "Open" registration not expected for at least a day or two at minimum.

I don't want to leave GAF but looking at the review threads of Mario Odyssey here and over at the site that must not be named I can already tell which I will frequent more...if I get a damn invite to anything someday.

This. Your best bet is to PM somebody who isn't banned yet that you knew from another community (and hope they're still checking messages) that has a discord (if you know someone) and try to get an invite to the discord. From there you may be able to get an invite for the next wave. But asking here almost certainly will not do any good, at least for 99% of us.

Right now sign ups are only for those verified via the 70+ gaf discords (who will get the code). Regular registration for everyone else will start in a handful of days, no code needed just a paid/ISP/college/work email.
Same, locked out from the place because no secret code.
Wouldn't have been easier to just ask for a proof of membership in gaf like control panel screenshot or something like that if the point was to let in only gaf members? They were manually validating the entrance anyway so...

^ There's already a dark theme that someone put together via the Stylish browser extension. Took three clicks and my eyeballs stopped bleeding.
Sadly, it was really a "right place right time" deal over the weekend. It was like GAF hit an iceberg and communities scrambled to collect up their own and get into the Discord lifeboats. Once word got out, there was a lot of undesirables (4chan, KiA, voat, etc) jumping in too, so invites were put on halt. People who don't use Discord, it's unfortunate, but it was the best that could be done given the circumstances. The website was taken offline in an instant with no notice.
I managed to get into the general GAF discord by PMing a mod on the Waypoint forums, of all things, who put me in contact with someone handling invites. They were really good with helping GAFugees organize.

They also have a version of the dark skin you can try out using an add-on for your browser. It's pretty neat.

I believe the ones making all of those claims are the minority and too much is being placed on the actions of a few very loud people on either side.
As I've stated earlier, I've only spent time in the ExviusERA Hangout thread and everything seemed the same as always. Same friendly people, speaking the same friendly way.
When I first heard of ERA in the Exvius discord everything seemed good intentioned all the way from the start and all throughout the process leading to my registration being completed and myself finally beginning to post.
Same here. The people I continue to speak with are the same as they always have been and do not appear to hold grudges with those who migrated.

It's gonna be "gaf part 2" for better or for worse. I wouldn't expect anything to be significantly different than what gaf used to be (probably including the trigger happy mods, but we can try to give them the benefit of the doubt).
Like I said earlier, a lot of the people that went over there were dicks here. But a lot of the good/great people here went over there too.

If you want to stay and DON'T wish to support the owner and site costs, install an ad-blocker and refrain from clicking links.
In this way, you are using server resources to some degree, however you still get to maintain contact with the COMMUNITY here if that's what you'd like to do. Obviously this does not remove the moral aspect for some enough, but it is an option.
I'll probably get banned for this post because I know it's against the TOS, but thought I'd throw it out there for those truly wanting to be here for the COMMUNITY that still is here.
It also wouldn't be my first ban either (second?).

I find it pretty crazy that the Super Mario Odyssey Review thread on ResetEra is 5x bigger than the one on GAF. 2.5 hours later and the one here is only 5 pages long. Just an observation that I found interesting.
