Who has a revised PS4 Pro (CUH-7100)?

Would greatly appreciate a cooler, quieter Pro. Anyone sample one of the revised models? They're allegedly being shipped in Japan and with the Euro GT Sport bundles.

No one appears to have reported on it yet. If it's anything like the revision of the OG PS4 (C chassis) then it could be a worthwhile upgrade.

Just a change of internal components. The OG C chassis had an increased heat sink size officially mentioned? Until Sony gets it into their heads that they need to use and external PSU and the extra space for better cooling or a completely new fan solution we're left with a horrible experience in all modern games utilizing the extra power of the pro.

Did they not do this with the slim? I never got a slim PS4 so never actually checked but it was normally how they managed to make them slimmer? PS3 and PS2 did the same in just making the PSU external to free up room for the chassis.

Personally, I really hate the external PSU's (MS use them all the time). I think aesthetically they are horrible... I understand keeping it separate because of heat issues etc but if there was some middle ground solution it would be much better for me...

I'd take brick any day over a hot and noisey console. You can hide a brick - can't hide the fan thrashing away.

Yeah, not sure why people hate the bricks.. Can easily hide them, but you can't hide an aircraft about to take off

If anything, you could make slim line power bars in this day and age too, look at the size of the unit in the ps4 for example. It's tiny

They did it with the slim ps2. The first slim ps3 was still internal. Not sure about the Super slim though.

Bricks are ugly, but I can live with it if it means better cooling. That usually translates to longer lifespan, and better performance.

Can you imagine a good cooling solution like on the X1+ External brick.

My Pro is very quiet. We frequently forget to turn it off it's so quiet.

Wolfenstein 2 makes my Pro noisy as a jet engine about to fucking explode. However, Horizon and Hitman are super quiet. I've been testing more games and it seems like 60fps games with Pro support are the ones making the fans ramp up to hell.

I don't want to sound like an ass but could you post any video? I find hard to believe that it doesn't make a sound with Pro supported games. Mine is dead quiet with non-Pro games.

A white one is supposedly releasing next week, November 7. Priced at £339.99 at UK store Smyths Toys

Yeah I'll try to make some time today. Maybe I'll compare it to other appliances. I have GTS on disc and Horizons digital and my TV is 4k HDR

Not every Pro is loud. You should have got it replaced until you got one that is more quiet. Thankfully I was lucky and got a quiet one first time.

It's the least I deserved after putting up with a OG jet engine PS4.

Honestly, had no idea that the PS4 Pro had a reputation of being loud.

I knew the OG joints sounded like leaf blowers, but that was about it.

I have a Pro, and I never notice the fan

My Pro is super loud, not quite as bad as the OG PS4, but it's very noticeable in anything other than the main PS4 interface where it is silent.

Ive had 2 OG ps4s, and people complained about the loudness. Neither ever got loud for me.

I dont expect my future Pro to either.

As requested, here’s a video of my Pro, tried Horizons and GTS at 4K HDR. Model number CUH 7015B
Thanks! Mine is similar with both those games, its only after a couple of hours of playtime that you can start to hear the fans ramping up, and even then, it's not crazy enough to become annoying. It gets loud as hell tho with Wolfenstein 2, like seriously, it gets insanely loud. If you ever buy that game, would you please make a video with it?

Same. Mine is silent except when running super demanding games...but even then it’s literally 1/4 the volume of my launch PS4.

Yep, same here.. except I think my dust cover / top panel is loose because it vibrates sometimes and I have to tap on it to get it to stop.. anyone else experience this?

It's exactly the noise level I have. I can't tolerate it and the shop where I bought it transfered the "video games stuff" in another shop that refuse to take it back, so I need to contact Sony but it's annoying...

It's what I thought, I had a day one PS4: dead silent, a C chassis PS4: dead silent, and my PS4 Pro is a jet engine. :/

Wait, you’re saying the sound level of the PS4 Pro in the video is the same sound level you have? And you find it unacceptable?

Well yeah at like 4min10 it's so loud I can't stand it personally. :/ And I've played on Dreamcast for years without complaining about the GD drive noise.

Yeah at that level it's still much quieter than the clicks of the controller, the hum of my refrigerator, the faucet, my sniffing and the microwave. And even then it only lasted a few seconds.

I can't say I've had a problem with mine being loud whatsoever. Now my fat ps3.....thats a different story. Didnt matter what I did, it always sounded like a jet turbine.

I've been waiting to find stock of them but not come across them in the UK yet.

Places in Europe like Germany, France etc have them available in a GT Sport bundle, but surprisingly the last bundle we got was a fifa 18 bundle and that's CUH-7016B.

I was expecting a WW2 bundle but it hasn't happened, so if you want one in the UK you can pick up the upcoming Battlefront console, or the White Pro (not destiny 2 bundle that's exclusive to Game).

What's odd is the normal PS4 has had GT Sport and WW2 bundles but the Pro has had nothing in the UK.

I'm hoping the cheaper internals have somehow resulted in lower power output, and therefore less heat and noise. I went through a few exchanges of Pro and they were all far too loud so I don't have a PS4 at all at the moment. I've been waiting for the revision.

The reality though is that even if the revision is better, there will still be variance between different units, so the best thing to do in any circumstance is buy from a retailer that let's you exchange/return it with no questions asked. I normally use Amazon or Argos.

I'd never use the likes of Game, Currys etc as they would have to test the console and you'd likely look like an idiot trying to convince them in a loud store that the console had a dodgy fan. The likes of Amazon would take it back if you told them you didn't like the smell of the damn console lol.

You peeps think DF will test the revision? Really intrigued to see if there's a difference. Would love to see a Slim Pro with UHD Drive. Though, I'd rather have a cheaper unit. :/

I think we have to clarify something. Every PS4 model gets loud when you are running a game and go back to the OS menu, which is exactly what is happening during the minutes you are describing. Why does that happen? No clue. You have to judge the noise levels when the console is running the game, not when it runs it on the background while you are on the OS menu. It's gonna get loud there no matter if it's a Slim, an Original, or a Pro.

His ps4 is normal. It will never be quieter than this. His fan kicked in to high gear because he was in the game and then went to dashboard . Usually the fans ramped up. But if you really Wana hear the fan kicking. Use a game with uncapped frame rate menu.like for example the match making in call of duty modern warfare remaster.lol when you hear that you will throw your PS4 out of the window

Yes, the only real time my Pro has been obnoxiously loud is at the blacksmith menu in Nioh which IIRC has an uncapped framerate or something. Otherwise I almost never hear it, although I play on a 1080p TV so maybe that's part of it. I guess I'd have to try a game that has super-sampling and one that doesn't to be sure if that's a factor or not.

I have a launch Pro and I've never really noticed it being any louder than, say, my computer - which is also super quiet.

My Pro has been fairly quiet, I got it shortly after launch. The only game that has cranked the fan up enough for me to notice it has been AC: Origins.

Ok so the revisions are out in the wild in the UK.

The way to guarantee the revisions is with the solo White PS4, which is available from Argos, Shopto, Smyths, Scan etc.

It's CUH-7116B

I picked one up from Argos at 9am this morning. As someone who's gone through various exchanges previously due to fan noise I can confirm that there's no difference in sound on my unit at least. If anything it's even more annoying than I remember, really high pitched whine to the fan.

Ramps up like crazy still. I'm going to exchange it as from my own experience there are variances between different PS4 units, although I need to wait for my local store to get another unit in.

My PS4Pro is "loud" only when I play games on disc (here and there, not during all the play)... otherwise digital games, even on VR, are mostly quiet, even playing it at night where every rumor is quite loud...

I was impressed after all the complaining I read on this forum... :\

But if there is an even better revision... well that's quite good! :D

Hmm, I frequently hear posters having issues with noise, but others without problems; which makes me wonder:

1) Are these Pros installed in confined spaces, such as entertainment cabinets, blocking air flow at the rear?

2) Thermal interfaces within the Pro, such as thermal paste between the APU and heatsink, may not be optimally applied across various production models.

3) Sensors to trigger cooling fan maybe set too low and could vary between production runs.

...Or some combination of the above.

I personally use headphones, so this is never an issue.

Thanks for doing the legwork, OCD. Looks like I'll be skipping this revision.

No buy then. Thanks for the report. Will buy then they make a slim model or change the bloody fan.

Hard to believe there's people this obsessed with the noise levels of a console unit. Sander's video is normal and it's extremely close to my noise level when playing the same exact titles.

I just have a closed cabinet with a glass pane + dual fans pushing in cool air, and the other pulling out the hot air where the PS4 is located.

I hear people argue for 60fps, 4k resolution nonstop but the same people want a smaller unit that houses all that hardware and cooling solutions. Have any of you ever built a PC? I have a 4k Gaming PC rig, and it makes noise that's the nature of it. It looks glorious and I wouldn't give it up for the world, so I just turn it up when no one's home or put on my wireless headset if there are people at home to get rid of the noise and not pester my roommate.

Half the time people don't seem to understand that you need a proper cooling solution to keep the unit cool to power your weak "4k" machine. These cooling solutions make noise, period. Wether your noise is more than the norm or not is up in the air, there are always variances and it has everything to do with the environment you live in. If your area is warmer than others, your fans will have to work harder to maintain an optimal temperature. I live in the north and right now every piece of hardware I have is running even better than it was before with far less noise than in the summer.

If your console is truly defective or not is up in the air, but it's hard to believe some of you have forced Sony to swap your console because it might be slightly louder than the last console. They should just advertise a range of acceptable noise levels and deny cases where it's within that range.

Crazy talk. My og ps4 was really loud, but my pro is even louder. In some games its so loud i cant even hear the game (i have a small child that i dont want to wake up with high volume). I have 2 stationary computers side by side, gaming computers that arent built to be silent, and i often play with my wife. Both computers running in a game i still way waaaaaay less loud than just the ps4 pro. I have followed every guide on how to place it, and it was just as loud new as it is now. My brother has a pro too, and it is just as loud.

So my entire comment is just crazy talk?

My PC has liquid cooling with radiator and powers a 6700k with dual GTX 1080 cards running in SLI. It is definitely louder than my PS4 Pro, and you saying you have no idea where and how to place your console says enough about your perspective and information on the noise your console makes vs your PCs.

first of all I love your name. its so me.

and thanks for the update. now I feel better about my Xbox one scoprio edition purchase over the PS4 Pro ( i bought the ps4 pro before and returned it the same day. I cant handle loud consoles. sony can go fuck themselves with the cheap ass design . I already have a C Model Fat PS4 that is dead silent and I am happy with it.

I've built many PCs and all of them have made far less noise than any of the consoles I own. My original PS4 was pretty loud but my PS4 Pro I don't even mind, the disc drive is the loudest thing in it by far.

Even with PCs it's not easy if you want a quiet machine. You need a case that doesn't resonate, SSD drives, low noise case fans, CPU is pretty easy to keep quiet with the right heatsink and fan choice but GPUs can vary from generation to generation and depending on maker and model. I had very quiet 970 SLI rig from Gigabyte but the 980 Ti that replaced those was a jet engine despite being from the same manufacturer and with a seemingly similar cooling solution. Had to send it back and get a MSI which was ok with the stock fan but I wasn't fully happy with it until I plonked a cheap AIO watercooler on it. Whisper quiet now.

The problem is with consoles it's entirely luck of the draw if you get one that is not too noisy and there is little you can do about it beyond placement because they all use custom cooling designs that you can't just replace with better fans and opening the unit and replacing thermal paste will most likely void your warranty.
