Hogwarts Legacy |OT| The Prisoners of AskforBan

SlimySnake

Flashless at the Golden Globes
Make sure to disable RTAO and RT Shadows. There are major pop-in shadows with RT Shadows (its implementation is not that good, the game does not fall back to the rasterized shadows in order to prevent these awful pop-in issues). RTAO is broken at the moment (notice the screen-space AO artifacts even when RTAO is enabled. That shouldn't be happening). The good news here is that the game looks amazing, even without these two RT effects (and runs better).

Thats hilarious.

But thanks for the info. How are RT reflections?

Really disappointed by the visual fidelity of the protagonist compared to other characters in the game. I'm finding it hard not to be distracted by the glaring difference. Captured on Performance Mode.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Too bad this isn't on Nintendo Switch yet as I would probably buy it right now.

Wouldn't let me name character Perfidious Wanker, had to use Johnson for my last name instead. LAME.

Other than that, seeks pretty fun so far!

Need some help. Going to get this on Steam, but they 2 versions they have the Regular and Digital Deluxe are both showing a release date of February 10th. I thought the Deluxe was out today?

Can I change my gender? I can't stand the voice of my male protagonist.
Only at the start of the game, and there is an audio bug with the main voice both male and female: if you change the pitch it plays the adjusted audio over the original audio creating a phasing effect (which will sound really weird). It was stated to be fixed in the ‘day 1’ patch but it’s not out yet apparently.

The deluxe is out today, it just shows the official release date for both versions but if you purchase the deluxe then you'll get immediate access.

What an intro! Game is incredible so far and running great on PC. I can post proper performance impressions once I've played some more.

Being new to the HP universe, what is the difference between being a Wizard and a Witch in the game?
pp or no pp, afaik

lets you set that independent of voice so you can be a witch with a deep male voice and vice-versa. nice when games give you options!

the trans community will still boycott your game though

That’s honestly weird in a single player game where not even the NPCs uses your name, even if there were online leaderboards just use the gamertag FFS. Who gives a fuck what someone made their name? 🤦

Early PC impressions from me:

5800X3D, 4090, 32GB Ram.

  • 4k native, DLSS upscaling off, ultra settings, all RT on (ultra) + DLSS 3 frame gen on = 80-90 fps
  • 4K DLSS quality, ultra settings, all RT on (ultra) + DLSS 3 frame gen on = ~105-120fps
  • 4K DLSS quality, ultra settings, RT off + DLSS 3 frame gen on = 120 fps locked
That's all I've tried so far since I settled on 4k native + RT + DLSS frame gen but nothing to be alarmed about as far as I can see. No issues with stuttering yet etc. The game compiles shaders upon booting the game so that's probably why, but so far it seems solid. I think I love Nvidia's fake frames.

Haven't managed to get any decent screenshots since I'm playing in HDR and screenshots always come out too dark when HDR is turned on but here's one from the opening area anyway:

Also this game has the best fucking hair options I've ever seen for black men in a videogame I've ever seen. It's fantastic, meanwhile the white purple haired whales are crying? I don't get it. Clowns.

none here, outside of a HUGE drop after the sort hat ceremony. like, it tanked to sub-30fps for like 5 seconds. haven't seen it happen again since. 100+ fps no stutters at all.

5800X3D
RTX3080 | driver: 526.98
1440p / Ultra
RT disabled
DLSS Quality

Inclusivity

I have almost 500 friends on PSN. There were 38 online last night when the game went live, 16 were playing Hogwarts including myself. Now granted, a lot of those 500 are dead accounts and I’m just too lazy to go through them and delete them all, but if roughly half of my friends list that was online was playing early access, I can only imagine what Friday will be like.

That’s bonkers. There wasn’t that many playing GOW, Elden Ring, MW2 when they all launched and we aren’t even at the “official” release of the game.

It’s gonna put up some big numbers.

The RT reflections work fine and since the game has a lot of reflective surfaces, I'd suggest enabling them. Generally speaking, this is a gorgeous looking game. Its pre-baked global illumination gives me major Assassin's Creed Unity vibes.

Alright so RT shadow/AO off, RT reflections on. Good to know. Shame the water has no RT reflection. How the fuck did they miss that shit? Its like they didnt even bother with RT and just slapped it at the end. I also thin reflections look good only because SSR is poorly implemented. Next-gen is rly having a rough start.

Evening and nights in the castle are kinda weird; everyone just despawns. Great Hall is empty, common room is empty, sleeping quarters is empty. There are no teachers or prefects roaming the halls, no house elves cleaning.

It feels kinda weird, and bad. Empty castle is messing with my comfy vibes, bro.

I think day 1 patch will be the official release day of Feb 10

Save the technical impressions till you hit Hogwarts proper (not that you haven’t already). But it really hits a lot harder in the school compared to the outside from what I’ve seen.

It’s the black options in general. My mother created a black female student with big hair curls (when she hogged the controls from me a few posts back), and holy shit I was floored, they not only have the lighting near perfect for back-lighting and fore-lighting, but even when I’m like: ‘there’s no way the sorting hat goes on without clipping’ it goes without clipping, they go to the effort of actually visually tucking the hair in under the cap. This game has a lot of care put into every detail of it. Could have been a few more hair options but what’s there especially for black hair works really really really well.

Another long time member who “shifted sites” when the parting of the Red Sea happened. Long hike back to the OG site!

Finishing up blood and wine on Witcher 3 “remaster” but I seriously am debating starting this now! I can’t decide PS5 or PC, I’m a graphics whore for sure. I got a 3090 FE and 5800x. Read all 8+ pages of this thread and I’m so hyped.

This game is going to do huge sales numbers.

Wanted to buy this physical as well (already bought digital) but I don't know that there's anywhere to actually buy the deluxe edition? It's not available anywhere to get today. Amazon shows delivery of March 1st but that's a no go. I see Gamestop says in store only so I can try calling them but I highly doubt they actually have copies. Walmarts and Best Buy near me are out of stock.

I've got a 4090 in my PC but purchased for PS5 and don't have any regrets about it

No stuttering so far. Just chose a house. 9900k/4090/32gb memory.

The biggest issue I have so far is a ghost/artifacting/aliasing effect around the character (especially hair) when panning the camera. Sort of looks like the game is being upscaled when I've disabled it. The FOV is also narrow, even when pulled all the way out.

Caved and got the deluxe on PC even though I was toying over getting it on PS5. So far, so good. I'm running this at the recommended settings (defaults to ultra and 1440p with no ray tracing) The intro is running between 115-130fps on my rig with no stutters (shader compilation performs at the start before you can even get the to menu). Just for those wondering, my specs are below.
  • i7 12700K
  • 16GB DDR4 @ 3200mhz
  • RTX 3080
  • PCIE4.0 NVME 1TB
It's early days yet, but hopefully performance keeps up!

Biggest issue I have at the moment is that the game doesn't seem to support Dualsense features (including basic haptics and rumble).

All the Avada Kadavra memes have been absolutely hilarious. I am greatly enjoying this game release. Also the voice acting is stellar.

GHG GHG said you need to disable in steam. Haven't tried it yet.
Native dualsense support on PC by the way for anyone wondering.

Just make sure you first disable playstation controller support in the steam controller settings.
