More like "hardcore" gamers who read IGN don't like motion controls. Not surprising!

Love love love the bitter tears over motion controls becoming popular. One of the best things about this gen.

I dislike it. Just don't see a point to it, doesn't make me feel like the experience is better, it's usually a hassle. I'm a simpleton, when I play games I just want to sit, hand on controller, play. Especially in my room where there isn't a ton of space to move around.

That info graphic is pretty mediocre. What did they gain over a few lines of text besides making it look more foreboding?

Buttons forever. I really don't like motion controls either.

The touch screen is a pretty good tool that adds gameplay elements like the DS and ios. But that's about it. As for motion controls? I want to relax when I'm playing, comfortably on my couch or laying down on my bed. I don't want to stand up and move my arms around make them tired.

Motion controls is not relaxing, and playing consoles is all about relaxation after a long day. That's why it never grew on me.

What bitter tears? I bought a Wii for the motion controls
and to play with an ex
and I've been completely underwhelmed with it's motion control implementation. In fact, I feel quite ripped off that the only game that I feel gave actual motion controls a "good" representation is a series that started on the DS with touch-screen primary controls.

So, uh, until a game shows me they're a decent alternative to something that can be done on a touch-screen, why should I care?

Pretty much.

Isn't ign like one of the biggest gaming sites out there in terms of traffic? People are making it sound like only "hardcore gamers" go there or something.

Also, yes, fuck motion controls. The Wii U is a sign that Nintendo is moving on, Sony doesn't really seem to give a shit about them anymore, and I give Microsoft a couple more years to try and reclaim those magic sales numbers the Kinect had, before people realize that the games don't play like they do in the commercials.

Yeah, I think that MS is at risk of dramatic overreach with their base customers when all they have to show at E3 is Halo 4, kinect, and dashboard services.

Indeed there is a big wide ocean of non-hardcore gamers, but consumer electronics history seems to show that forsaking your core audience as you pivot to a bigger one is always a long-term fail.

it's THE biggest in terms of traffic, and as someone that used to post on their forums (still do in 1 place) it's a wasteland now, so most of the hardcore people are gone.

Aside: Is it me, or did everyone else know that ign is giving away a free month of XBL Gold? Is that legit?

EDIT:

Yep, that's what I figured. Obviously this was not just "hardcore gamers" sharing their opinions though.

I could have told them this and saved them the trouble of doing a survey. It's pretty obvious gamers don't care about that shit.

I don't care at all if you care. I'm greatly amused by hardcore gamers moaning and crying about the existence and popularity of motion controls, that's all.

Can anyone name me a great motion controlled game? Anyone?

I know how this will work: if I say "Super Mario Galaxy," youll say "that's not really a motion control game," right?

If nothing else we got Sin &Punishment and Flower out of it. The only two games that benefit from motion controls.

Are you saying you the bitter tears are one of the best things about this gen, or that motion controls are?

Either way, I think you're wrong.

Metroid Prime 3. Better control than any other console fps.
Hell no. One of the main reasons I stopped playing half way.

I don't get it. The Xbox360 was my go-to console during the earlier years of this gen. Now its lost pretty much all of its steam for me, even to the point where people are now expecting the microsoft e3 conference to be a joke because, well..

Makes sense. I was never really excited about motion controls with the Wii, moreso the IR pointer. It's still the best method for FPS. Well, actually...

Motion controls are back to being niche. They failed to take over the default and are now largely relegated to dance games and some sports games. They are present elsewhere but hardly anyone wants them outside of those uses.

Off-topic: Thank you, and the same to you.

As for a free month of XBL: Fuck, you need to have your CC or Paypal on your account to get it. I'm not giving them my CC info.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Like it or not it's use of motion control was excellent. Honorable mentions to Red Steel 2 and Wii Sports Resort. Many other games made great use of the motion and pointer controls. The key is to use motion controls when they make sense and not for every little thing just because the system has them.

while I agree, I think we'll have to see what everyone brings to the table next gen. Although the Wii-U will have the tablet controller, if it only allows for one per console, the Wii Mote is still going to be a heavily used controller for anyone who purchases the system.

Were they intended to talk over as the default way of controlling games? I don't think you can prove that. I think they were intended to sell hardware and make money, which they did. Quite a lot of both. Cry about it.

Any time crybaby "hardcore" gamers are reminded they don't get what they want just because that's the way it's usually gone, that's a good thing. Good and extremely funny.

Even better than the success of motion controls has been the sales success of a dramatically weaker console using old tech. Millions of manchildren still impotently whine about it to this day, and that's a beautiful thing.

Either way, I think you're wrong.

And I'm all broken up about that.

Hate them. One of my favorite features of Dolphin is mapping waggle to button presses.

Well yeah, waggle sucks. I can live with it- it never affected my enjoyment of Super Mario Galaxy- but it's such a waste of the technology.

Well, maybe not the technology of the OG Wiimote, given that was kinda a turd, but definitely the tech of Move or MotionPlus.

Should pointer controls really be considered motion controls? Seems like that is more mouse simulation than motion control.

What will it bring to the table that it hasn't already by being present in another generation (and not even the selling point of the system)? We've already had all sorts of uses from it and most of it isn't good.

If anything I think Kinect has a brighter future.
