One thing to note that I'm not sure has gotten much attention from that Gamespot walkthrough...The giant robot that the heroes are fighting, from about 3:20 on you can see that once you bust off the armored shell, it is literally made out of LEGOs. For all the descriptions of this game looking like you're playing with a giant interactive toybox, something like that makes me wonder if the real storyline isn't far from the truth. I suddenly get a very OG-Smash Bros vibe from this, like the "attack" being played out is actually all just a creation of the player's imagination.

It even kind of plays into the "Unite" feature of the game of stacking little people together in various ways to make shapes, but taken to the extreme. Intriguing!

Now...can I get a Chase McCane cameo please?

Strictly speaking, 'AAA' is actually a classification *of* budget, so by *definition* it's 'not AAA'. And that's fine by me!

No it's not. AAA is a term to describe quality. It's just been hijacked and overused by marketing and publishers calling their own games AAA, and thus lost it's proper meaning in the gaming world, as half of the "AAA" games are actually crap.

Also you don't know the budget for this game

Whenever we used it, it was in the context of convincing pubs to throw more money at our projects :)

Quite true.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
weird, i thought it said launch

When you go to the game page on Nintendo's site, it does say launch.

Honestly, I think everything is up in the air- there are like 5 different type of designations on the website right now and all of them could mean launch day.

Any words from Platinum or Kamiya about the game? I think it's pretty fucking badass that Kamiya wasn't even the for his game's unveiling

I've decided that this is my game of the show. Not because it's a 'next gen' game. Not because it has sweet toku references. Because it looks different. It's the one console game from this that I've seen that doesn't look like anything else. Like, sure, it resembles Viewtiful in art style and you might think it looks like Pikmin from a far, but after watching that Gamespot video so many times, it just looks fun to play. Most importantly, it doesn't look 'cinematic'
This.
The only thing that reminds me of Pikmin is how the other heroes move around the main one, and after they jump they fall slowly, as if floating, like pikmin. Also the "health circle" of enemies.

Ok after mentioning Earthbound, yes it also reminds me of Earthbound, and that's great too.
Very well then! So for now, when we crack open the GAF dictionary and look up P-100:

1. P-100 is Little King's Story, minus the simulation aspects, plus the style of Viewtiful Joe, the combat of Okami, the boss battles and setpieces of Bayonetta, the squad control of Pikmin, and a setting reminiscent of Earthbound with the residential insanity of Zombies Ate My Neighbor, channeling Voltron and War of the Worlds with a pinch of platforming, puzzle-solving, Pilotwings hang-gliding and Four Swords gamepad-to-TV connectivity, with what appears to be four-player co-op in the official trailer, all in a new Nintendo IP helmed by Kamiya at Platinum Games for release within the first half-year of WiiU's release?

2. Playable Game of the Show - E3 2012

3. Game of the Forever

Note I added in Four Swords under the "pinch of" clause.
Please, let this be the official description of the game <3

He said he can't say much right now or the ninjas from Kyoto will find him and force him to commit ritual suicide.

Agreed, this and Watch Dogs. This because of the exact reasons you described, Watch Dogs because if it even begins to approach its potential then it will be the spiritual sucessor to Hitman that I need.

This game (and Lego City) bode extremely well for Nintendo's publishing regime on the Wii U. Seems like they didn't get the memo that the middle class is dead. I hope to god that both games do well (if they end up as good as they look).

I wanna know how long Kamiya has been working on this. What has he been doing in the time between finishing Bayonetta and starting development on this? Besides tweeting.

exactly that...tweeting

I fully expect Kamiya to one day make a game based around tweeting

and it will be glorious

Game looks really good - I was surprised. Quite unique and playful. I would not pay full price for it, but maybe around $20 dollars, based on that first look - maybe the game is full of content, I dunno. A nice little surprise.

Probably coming up with concepts and pitching them to various publishers. You know, like any studio would...

If this game is far enough along to be anywhere close to ready by the time Wii U launches, Bayonetta 2 probably never existed. Unless Kamiya wasn't working on Bayo 2.

the game doesn't even have a name yet..i don't think it will be ready for launch

Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion and Paper Mario only got subtitles recently.

Especially with a new IP, deciding on and registering a name (TM, web, and so on), can take some time.

The three main superheroes (the red bruiser, blue sword user and green gunner) all have a black "M" logo on their chests, with a white shooting star wrapping around it. The "M" probably is a hint toward their name, which in turn may give us the name of the game. What could "M" stand for? "Mighty?" "Metro?" "Morphing?"

Let's start doing domain name searches for things like "MetroMorphStar.com," lol.

I think you might be surprised by how little time the development team of a game spends on developing the name.

Pretty much. If I remember correctly, Viewtiful Joe was changed from his original name of "Red Hot Man" in a relatively short amount of time.

I don't really disagree with any of that, but at the same time, it doesn't mean that they didn't sacrifice some level of creativity, and subsequently game design and mechanics, for what they seem to perceive (somewhat incorrectly, IMO) as what western gamers would be more interested in. I'm not saying they threw it all out the window, mind you.

I don't agree with this at all, though! Bayonetta is far more DMC than Viewtiful Joe. While I can see the relationship gameplay-wise between VJ and DMC, I would argue that it's much more accurate to call it "the real Devil May Cry 2" than Viewtiful Joe 3D.

In what universe are Bayonetta and Vanquish examples of P* sacrificing game design for mainstream appeal?

First actually interesting use of the Wii U Game Pad I've seen so far.

Seriously, I don't want to be an echo in here, but why the hell wasn't this shown on stage?

This probably won't come across in videos but in person the game has a very nice-looking soft and gradual DOF effect. Looks really good.

I watched some people play it, I had no real idea WTF was going on but it looked cool.

wow, he replied back to billie! Just what the hell is going on with Nintendo and their people:

I just saw Iwata banana footage
Reggie and those zombie face
Kamiya is a tweet freak

---
and btw, from their release list P-100 is launch "window"

Reggie's translation of window in his IGN interview: within 3-4 months after launch

Really wish they would have revealed when launch was. Has any company revealed a console launch date at some special event?
