It definitely has weak episodes, but a small percentage is pure gold, and most is definitely enjoyable with at least a few funny moments (maybe not haha funny, but definitely gets some smiles)

I think this thread is a trap. The OP is gathering all of the Seinfeld haters so that they can all be rounded up and banned.

On a serious note, I fully agree with the OP. Seinfeld is just not funny. It has some funny and chuckle worthy moments, but they are so rare. The characters all suck and are simply not likable.

Friends on the other hand is an amazing show!!!

I like Friends for what it is (besides the last 2-3 seasons), but.. yeah

I get different opinions and all, but COSTANZA?

Kramer was funnier :p

I'm watching it now. Jerry does have like 15 different kinds of cereal. But George is doing the opposite so it's awesome.

You couldn't be more wrong in life if you praise Friends and hate Seinfeld. I pity you people. Something horrible must have happened in your life that affected your brain.

I first watched Blade Runner in 2001, when I was 21. I thought it was just about the best thing ever.

My "back then" comment was too vague, and implied I meant when it first came out.

To clarify: we're the same age, and I first saw it around the same time you did... I think I was 20. I enjoyed it then, and I still do now, but there are several friends of mine who never saw it and want nothing to do with it. So I'm saying that 10 years for me can still be considered a kind of nostalgia =)

I don't really see the similarities. Family Guy is my favorite show ever.

I can't think of a better sitcom. What's funnier that a bunch of sociopaths trying to pass as normal people to get what (and who) they want, and failing spectacularly week after week? It's a show about passing (Kramer being the notable exception), so I can see how you might love Curb and dislike Seinfeld: Larry is a rich and more apathetic Costanza; he's still pissed at silly, absurd social convention, but he can afford to be bluntly honest.

Your hyperbole is still ridiculous, though.

Yeah it's really strange how not funny it is. I think I had this discussion once and maybe only americans like that kind of stuff, always sunny in philadelphia and curb your enthousiasm are also not good. This whole awkward hysteria genre is only funny for you guys I think.

Maybe you just have to watch more than 10 minutes to find it funny, but it's just tiring to watch.

Such fury.

It's just a differing opinion.

No man, it's just the absurd hyperbole.

Unfunniest show of all time?

Why is it if somethings not good or great it's "the worst ever!".

If everyone were to make a thread saying "such and such" is the worst or best thing ever, we'd be drowning in this dumb shit constantly lol.

Pro-Tip: If you find you don't like something in life, move along or live journal it, don't clog forums with hyperbolic statements.

I love Curb Your Enthusiasm. I find it executes this type of comedy soo much better. I also love Always Sunny.

It's a matter of perspective. I find that people who say that this is the "funniest show ever" are being completely ridiculous, in my opinion. Why can't you see the reverse? It's especially bad due to how hyped it is by a lot of people. Expectations do affect your opinions of something.

Ah, i see, I thought you meant when the film was first released, 1982.

As for you guys unsure about how to properly watch Seinfeld, the best thing to do is to take all of your DVDs, rip em, add them all to a playlist, shuffle them randomly and save. Completely random is the best way.

Seinfeld
Curb
It's Always Sunny

I weep for you.

Alright, that's it.

I'm out of this thread.

I now understand why many recent good shows had short runs.

Seinfeld
Curb
It's Always Sunny

I weep for you.

He probably DOES like Seinfeld, but I guess we'll never know, since he is too tired to continue watching the show after the first ten minutes.

This thread is slowly becoming a living proof of why Reality shows like "Kardashians" and "Jersey Shore" and the likes are the highest rated shows on TV today.

I love both. Curb makes the situations much more awkward, but it definitely recycles jokes from Seinfeld. Put me in the "can't understand why you'd like one and not the other" camp.

Even if you didn't like the show, was calling it "the unfunniest sitcom of all time" really necessary?

Nah, this doesn't make sense. No one would buy every DVD unless they knew they liked the series, and the best way for someone who is already committed to running through a show is to watch it in order. Without doing it, you miss the nice little callbacks and references to previous episodes.

For someone who's never seen it before, you could probably do alright by watching the reruns on TBS for a week

Seinfeld is a timeless monument to modern culture. Believing anything less would be...uncivilized.

Seriously, I really do believe the show is timeless. Technology changes and some scenarios are now outdated because of it, but the show's incredibly revealing exposes on social tension and awkwardness remain unparalleled in a "pop" sitcom. There is a Seinfeld for every situation.

God bless this show. For the record, I am 23.

I'm relatively new here, but have been reading posts here for a few years now. This quote though is the best I've come across in all my time here! Perfectly explains why Seinfeld is the greatest sitcom of all time and changed tv forever.

Great post sir!:)

Hated the show, which is weird because I loved Frasier.

I tried watching the show so many times. I kept convincing myself that I was the problem and that if I just tried harder it would become funny.

Wasn't until Bee Movie came out (same guy, same humor) that I came to accept that the show really was genuinely unfunny except for a handful of gem episodes.

I never found Seinfeld to be laugh-out-loud funny, it's more like the kind of clever and sometimes silly funny that makes me smirk rather than bust a gut. That said, it's still a great show, no doubt one of the defining cultural touchstones of the 90's. It's similar to the Simpsons for me. Other sitcoms of the era, like Friends, are pure schmaltz. The characters on that show were always thinly written in such a way that they were essentially interchangeable based on the situation. These shows didn't have to do much "work" to be funny, because they didn't require dedication to plot or characterization - it was just set-up followed by punchline. Unfortunately most sitcoms have followed this model rather than the more cerebral model that Seinfeld and the Simpsons laid out, which I think still speaks to the testament of Seinfeld as a fully-realized, well-rounded and lasting comedic work. The only thing that doesn't hold up for me is the laugh track, but I think that can be forgiven as a conceit of the times. I could probably do without the stand-up bits too.

You're acting like Bee Movie is a gauge for the comedy of Seinfeld? Even a fan of the show wouldn't make that connection.

You also ignore the fact that Larry David had as much to do with Seinfeld's goodness as Jerry himself, at least in the first several seasons?

This show being called "genuinely unfunny" is just baffling to me.

My point was that it convinced me that I didn't have to think it was funny because everyone else said it was....and yes the humor is similarish.

Don't get me wrong there are good episodes. Overall the show is unwatchable for me though.

This topic is sensationalist attention-whoring (if the title didn't tell you, the random mention of Blade Runner does), and you bastards gave him 6 pages and counting!

Mention posts per page and I'll burn your house down

Man, that OP. It's like walking into a party and taking a dump in the living room floor while everyone stands there horrified.

I didn't want to know Korey had such bad taste. His opinion on this is so wrong it will taint my perception of everything he ever posts in the future.
