I can't wait for these systems to be released. Comparing speculation to reality should be fun. =p

Perhaps around 1.25 years from now. We'll find out if the wait was worth it or not. The proof is in the pudding and next E3, it'll be intriguing to see what kind of machine they'd build as a substitute for the actual console to demo their "next gen" (faux pas or not) games on.

3tf for the entire system is reachable... if they chose to use APU + dedicated GPU design and are not afraid to build 200W machine.

I'm really looking forward to PS4, (after this Xmas i really will have had my fill of Fable, Forza, Halo and Gears) so i will more than likely go with Sony next gen.

I just think people should hold their expectations back a little or risk being really disappointed.

At the end of the day they will want to get it out for $400 and it has a manufacturing cost, power and heat envelope to stay within.

Even using a nice AMD Quad Core CPU, a 1.8TFLOP GPU and 2GB's of Ram, it's still quite a power leap over PS3 which is still to this day pumping out games like GoW: Ascension, Last of Us and Beyond.

My main hope for PS4 is that the architecture is built so that multi platform games look / run the same if not better than the 720 versions.

Continue to improve PSN (even if it means charging for it) and it will be the perfect console for me.

Charging for psn would be the worst possible choice. I'd probably go Wii-U after that and I really don't want to as it is.

Unless psn charge includes plus like service. Then I could concider biting.

If charging $40 - $60 per year for PSN 'Gold' made the online experiences as stable as the 360 then i would have no problem paying for it.

Although im a massive Nintendo fan i wouldn't expect much from their free online service, there you have a company so behind the times with regards to Online that im expecting worse problems than early PSN with the WiiU's online.

PS4 will be my multiplatform machine with WiiU for exlusives only.

What do people expect from E3 2013 regarding PS4 ?, i recently rewatched the 2005 presentations and they spent 50 mins talking about the specs alone before even showing a tech demo !, surely there will be no repeat of that.

Most of the games shown were also using pre rendered footage and the few real games that were shown were either cancelled or delayed.

I for one hope they only show what is capable on day one with games they know for a fact will launch with the system (games out in the first 3-6 months).

No you won't.
Yes I very much would go Wii U and PC. Chargin online is a big no no for me unless there is a shitload of bonuses ala plus included.

Ofc I would pick the console up way later to play the exclusives and such. That said I doubt Sony would make PSN charged.

I haven't picked up 360 for this very reason. If live was free I would have gotten the thing back in 2006 instead of Wii (in the end that ended up being a bad choice too >.<).

Charging for live is the number 1 reason I don't own a 360, if sony charges for psn I will not buy. I have not had any stability issues with psn, and I won't claim that people who do are making it up, but charging for psn will not make those issues suddenly go away. I will never pay twice to play a game online.

Same, I don't play online enough to waste money like that.

Care to enlighten us on what comparative lack of stability are you on about?

Just general lag, DC's esp on EA games, something i don't experience on XBL. It's not a shot at Sony i have just always found that online gaming on XBL > PSN but i suppose it is free.

It will definitely be interesting to see the online infrastructures of these new consoles. If the Wii U's rumored 1 gig of ram dedicated to the OS is even close to half true, it would be a beast for online features while gaming. Meanwhile I believe Sony's PS3 OS now runs using only 50 MB of ram (formerly 120 MB). Cross chat isn't possible due to the limitations of Ram on the PS3 (Xbox 360 has the same amount of ram but is unified between the CPU and GPU so there's more flexibility for distribution).

I can't see either MS or Sony falling behind in this department either. As for lag issues, I'm not sold on MS's pay service as it's been revealed that they use Peer 2 Peer hosting on some games as well. A lot of it can also be attributed to developer netcode as well.

Sony is operating in total loss territory. Do not be surprised to see a subscription based model. I don't exactly advocate it, but I can understand why they would do it.

I have never experienced any lag or many DCs. But I know people are fast to say that Sony's online service is bad "because it's free".

This really scares me. We all know Sony can't keep a secret (The two PS3 revisions say hello.). I just have a bad feeling that Sony will be releasing the PS4 in 2014.

But those devices were launch-ready, the PS4 isn't.

When the fuck are we going to get new leaks? This shit is really annoying that we know close to nothing about Sony :-/.

I'm looking forward to the whole of next year. Every little event will have people foaming at the mouth anticipating leaks, going crazy over baseless speculation and ambiguous rumours.

Fun probably starts in earnest in the run up to CES, then we have GDC, potential Sony/MS events, even before we get to E3.

Majority of previous generation Sony leaks came from manufacturing lines in China, and its too early for PS4 mass production.

I don't think that they'll start charging for online since that's a pretty big bullet point that separates them from MS but they may start adding extra features to entice people into getting Plus. I have a feeling that Plus is going to get revamped for next gen so that more people feel like it'll be a necessity instead of a luxury. I don't know what features would do this but I can forsee Sony doing something that would make non Plus members sign up, just not charging for online play.

I can see online passes becoming a part of PS+.

Honestly I wouldn't feel mad if they made online + exclusive. I plan to subscribe until the end so it wouldn't affect me.

@SPE: oh yeah indeed.

This gave me an idea. Online passes free for new buyers and Plus users. I could see that happening.

I'll go PC only if it's charge. Paying to use your own internet connection is ridiculous.

RE: AMD on October 29th will be announcing an update to its corporate strategy.

Well, there are two likely scenarios that I see for this strategy announcement, which is said to include an as-of-yet unidentified "special guest":

1) The special guest is a representative from either Microsoft (MSFT) or Sony (SNE) disclosing details of a next-generation console win. This would help bolster credence of its "semi-custom" approach.

2) The guest could also be a representative from ARM Holdings (ARMH) and there could be a joint announcement involving AMD's new micro-server strategy. Alternatively, AMD could be announcing its intent to go for the smartphone space by leveraging ARM's IP to get its foot in the door fairly quickly.

Keep us updated although I fear we won't get any substantial (console related) news out of this.

AMD invites MS spokesperson to make vague comment about future developments.

Sony comes out in retaliation with an interview with Kaz Hirai about how Sony is pushing the boundaries of R&D for the future of entertainment.

MS responds with snarky tweet about how they don't think the Samaritan demo is very challenging for next gen consoles

Sony posts a screenshot of Samaritan running at 4k with a winky emoticon next to it

.
.
.

By the weekend we'll know everything about both consoles

They will only confirm that they have console contracts. Im much more interested about Radeon 8xxx and Steamroler timings. Also, they need to make a big Z60 push for Win8 tablets.

I don't know but it looks like MS is making changes in their first party devs, a lot of new people, new studios have been created, and it looks like they are preparing new IPs.

I will wait before taking a desition

More PSN+ discounts and sales. Valve and Gabe already figured out the secret to our wallets. Just give us more opportunities to buy games. Oh, and more PSN+ discounts on other game related stuff like soundtracks and such.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6418/...d-opteron-cpus-for-servers-production-in-2014

Last year AMD officially became an ARM licensee, although the deal wasn't publicized at the time. Fast forward to June 2012 and we saw the first fruits of that deal: AMD announced it would integrate ARM's Cortex A5 core into its 2013 APUs to enable TrustZone support.

Today comes a much bigger announcement: AMD will be building Opteron processors based on a 64-bit ARM architecture. There are no product announcements today, but the 64-bit ARM Opterons will go into production in 2014.

The only other detail we know is that these ARM based Opterons will embed SeaMicro's Freedom Fabric, presumably on-die.

Well I'm hoping we get some specs revealed next year at least. That should give us a good idea how close some of us were with our speculations. How it translates on screen won't be accurately seen for a few years and even then there will be surprises.

4K native resolution, 300 FPS, 3TF GPU's lol, it seems people forget / forgive E3 2005 very easily...

Yeah pretty much. I wish I was on GAF when all the hype surrounding 1080p gaming was going around.

People get caught up in hype so easily and I really can't fault them for it. I'm just far too cynical to believe anything without actually seeing it or having good reason to believe it.

I doubt we'll see much of 8xMSAA, especially if deferred shading becomes even more popular next gen.

It wasn't so much hype as in Sony lying to the whole conference, they said PS3 would be able to output games in native 1080p, on two HDTV's, at the same time !!!.

Whatever Sony say / show at E3 2013 regarding the PS4's performance, i will be taking it with a bucket of salt to avoid disappointment when i buy the system and a few launch games.

Ever since the infamous Killzone 2 CGI footage from 2005 set the bar for blatant lies, you shouldn't believe anything from Sony or MS at E3. MS currently have the crown for King Of Fibs with their ludicrously fake Natal/Kinetic video from 2009.

Just like Microsoft lied about every 360 game being 4xAA/720p. Something which people seem to forget.

Did they?
I remember watching a video of Xbox 360 back when the devkits were Power Macs and there was talk about the final dev kits getting rid of aliasing. Not that they were wrong, developer's could of used the resource for something else.
