AC3, Black Ops 2, Mass Effect, etc. all seem to be inferior to current gen counterparts. Is there any game that's superior on Wii U at launch?

You want to show us how these games are all inferior then? Do you have various screen shots to compare each version?

For instance the Black Ops 2 pics above, shadows at a distance looks worse on WiiU, everything else looks better.

Look at the floor texture in the 360 vs Wii U version.

And this is Neogaf, where the floor/wall texture is the single most important part of any game!

I don't know the source of these pictures so comparison is pointless but whatever

the half-res shadowmap in this batman WiiU screenshot would can be explained with memory architecture
on X360 you rasterize shadowmap in eDRAM and move it to Main RAM for futur use like a texture
on WiiU you rasterize shadowmap in eDRAM too but in some cases it's probably better to leave the shadowmap in the eDRAM for futur use directly from the eDRAM (because unlike X360, WiiU eDRAM is probably a video memory space for ROP and TMU and can be used by texture/map for help Main ram) and in this way liberate some Main ram bandwitdh but eDRAM is a limited space, this can explaine low res choice.
it will be the same dilemma for MSAA, i think they will be lot of 720p without MSAA

Seems like it would be using the memory space as in intended.

Quaz is a pretty smart dude but I'm not really sure what he's saying there since it's broken English. Just that a lot of Wii games will be 720p with no AA?

Business as usual. You've been following the WUSTs and you know that most people who seriously partook in the conversation back then were expecting the edram pool to ease the stress on main RAM and allow nintendo to go with a streamlined DDR3 setup. I could go dig out some conversations involving Fourth Storm, Thraktor, wsippel, BG et al, but I don't see a point in doing so.

I can't remember anyone talking about the RAM possibly being slower than 360/PS3 though, but in no way do I remember everything that was said.

While you're at it can you show me the comparison pics you looked at that drove you to make this comment earlier:

Right where is the comparison video or the pics that made you claim Black Ops 2/AC3 ect were all inferior? As far as Batman goes I see various comments there. But I sort of lost faith in people's opinions of this kind of thing after the whole "WiiU game reel looks worse than 360 even though the games were running on 360" debacle, there was a very large list of comments there too.

IGN review doesn't seem to harp on about framerate? Maybe GiantBomb's Wii U is broke lol. Hope for a patch otherwise.

His English isn't the problem it's your lack of technical understanding.

Edit: This reads as mean but it's the truth, sorry. What he wrote makes sense to anyone who understands anything about how the 360 works.

Was posted in the other thread. No idea how he could nail down a data rate, surely nothing there could tell him that info. Doubt it but I'm still interested in reading his article when it comes out.

There are extra characters usually on the chips themselves that indicate the speed grade. PCPer didn't read all that was on the chip.

Where's the textures on Wii U at 1:11?

Arkam City gets random texture load problems from what I've heard. Though I've never played it myself.

Anyway from looking at the side by side the WiiU version certainly looks quite noticeably better in parts than the PS3 version overall and the lighting looks nicer in the video they compare to 360. I did see a couple of stutters on WiiU, though I also noticed a moment or two of serious slow down on the PS3 video that didn't happen at the same time on WiiU. From those comments you get the idea that the game is chugging along ay 10fps, ludicrous.

These are dynamic shadow maps, not pre-baked shadows, so no, they don't work like this. What you see on these screens is lower resolution of the shadow map, period.
 
I don't think anyone truly doubts that the Wii U will shine a lot brighter in a year or two... but I think most people are just disappointed it's not strong enough to show it right away... and if you don't care about Nintendo franchises the third party games aren't likely to ever look better than PS360...

Still, I'll say what I say in all of these threads... as long as Nintendo makes Mario and Zelda games, I couldn't really care less what hardware it's on or what other games are released. I know that's not good enough for a lot of people, but hey... the best 3rd party titles are going to be out on PC and PC will always beat consoles so... Yeah I went there.

Why wouldn't third party games built for the system not look better? Ignoring lazy devs (which EVERY console has) do you really expect most third parties to use only 20% of the system every time for the next 5 years? Just think about how long that is...

As for it looking "better"... the rest of the video didn't look convincingly better. Catwoman looked shinier, but that's because she has additional armor on... hence Armored Edition.

Its not just a different costume, the PS3 version shows a complete lack of any lighting on Catwoman. Her model also has less geometry, again not just because of the costume. Some more prominent reflections and slightly better looking ground textures in the WiiU version in the city as well. Some high res still pics would be easier to compare though.

So is every dev who worked on a Wii U launch game lazy?

Another to add to the list: Trine 2 seems to be missing some effects found on the 360 and PS3 versions.

What he's saying is if you look at the shadow right in front of the camera that isn't low resolution at all, only the ones further away are.
