I wouldn't be too surprised if some people are calling him that.
While I agree up to there I beg to differ on this point. His name is Debito Arudou and he is a fully naturalized Japanese, just like every "natural" Japanese and most Zainichi and Ainu. He is the real life corner case where the gaijin non-issue (the effect that initial outsiders of specific circles may have a hard time getting into said circle) that exists everywhere becomes an actual issue, a person that's legally and (locally) socially fully integrated but is still regularly pull out of it again for looking unusual (also by far not an issue limited to Japan). He has a big mouth to a fault, but the issues he picks up are valid and the Japanese government and society need to tackle these issues if they ever want to solve the ever increasing issue of ageing population. As a nation they are effectively hurting themselves with their current approach.
Excuse me, doesn't everyone? I totally expect the majority of the world's population find their very own nation/country the best without any shred of doubt. How is that even a speciality of Japan at all?

I want people to speak their minds but when one gets to the point where it seems like they're just insulting an entire group, an entire group of potential customers, I can fully undersand people not wanting to buy a product from said person or the company they work for. I'm still on board for Bayonetta 2 since he isn't working on it seems. Wonderful 101 is the game directed by Kamiya. That's giving me pause now.

But this is the thing. If you use antagonistic words, you're going to draw antagonistic responses. Everyone knows that. And everyone knows people have a habit of fighting fire with more fire.
The solution? Don't be an antagonist. Don't use provocative words or phrases. Don't light the touchpaper. Don't wind people up. That won't mean you'll never see asshattery, because there's plenty of people out there with huge chips on the shoulder thats looking to be a dick, regardless of what you do. But if you talk nice, you'll see less offensive shit thrown your way.
