I'd still call that poster overly optimistic
I'm basically done with game journalists...gamespot joined the "what is wrong with Nintendo Direct" bandwagon. Not even going to bother linking them -_-
The only journalist who seemed "happy" was Rich from IGN... I tend to use GAF and twitter for most gaming news so I didn't really look around.I'm basically done with game journalists...gamespot joined the "what is wrong with Nintendo Direct" bandwagon. Not even going to bother linking them -_-
A television psychic could have proven his telepathic might by forecasting Nintendo's latest announcements. ... Intelligent Systems is working on a mash-up of its own Fire Emblem series with Atlas' revered Shin Megami Tensei, and Monolith Soft looks to be taking on Monster Hunter in another expansive role-playing game.
A bloated firmware update had eaten up a large chunk of the system's meager storage space,
third parties have been announcing games for every system except for Nintendo's
How quickly we forgive Nintendo for their mistakes. They have pulled this same maneuver in the past, and it's tiring to suffer through lengthy neglect followed by effusive apologizing to make us forget about how they wronged us.
Nintendo has a knack for catering to its excitable fan base.
Nintendo has earned goodwill by periodically reinventing its most enduring properties. Mario has been as malleable as he is portly, pushing the bounds of platforming in every 3D adventure he undertakes. Kirby and Donkey Kong are just as flexible. The pink puff can be found in a delightful world constructed of yarn or floating in a dangerous land as you use the stylus to guide him to safety, while his simian pal might fancy the rhythmic tapping of a plastic bongo drum. It's these forays into previously unexplored realms that keep aging Nintendo franchises feeling fresh despite their years of digital work, but they are rare exceptions to the rule.
Nintendo has briefly conjured interest in the Wii U after it had been collecting dust in the months since release, but it has done so by courting the very people who have already made up their minds about the system.
Yep.What a turd of an article.
Is that the GameSpot one?
Just a couple of notes:
1. I think both Game & Wario and Pikmin 3 suffered definite 2-3 month delays from the R&D relocation both EAD and SPD are taking into the new unified R&D building.
2. I don't think Super Mario Galaxy U or Smash Bros. U will release this year. I also am doubtful that Mario Kart U will make this year. I am betting Wii Sports U and The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker U make your Q4. I am also highly suggesting Band Brothers will be a dual release for Wiii U and 3DS. Heck, maybe even Tomodachi Collection 2.
3. EAD Tokyo should be developing two other games besides the new Galaxy inspired Mario.
4. I think this almost guarantees Grezzo is developing the hand held Zelda game under either Aonuma's EAD or Shimizu's EAD. No way they have the resources for this to be in-house.
Oh boy...
Lies.
Lies. Infinity, Lego Marvel, Revelations, The Walking Dead in the last 2 weeks. What other games did we miss out on recently?
What a turd of an article.
I am a published journalist and I know that if I were to present an opinion piece like that to my editors, they'd have sent it back questioning whether I was on some kind of narcotics when I wrote it.
People always ask Nintendo for new IPs. They deliver, however they have shifted the new, untested IPs to be on the 3DS eShop.
Plus, if this Direct was filled with new IPs, you can guarantee the same people would be asking "Where's Mario? Where's Zelda?"
Alright, I definitely agreed with you there on number 1 and 2.
I will be shocked if Sakurai announced SSBU Dojo at E3 2013

My try for release prediction:
Something Chrystal Chronicles
Hope there is another nintendo direct for Reggi in February mention all USA 3rd party support.

1. While possible, the move wasn't set to happen until February, from the report we got before. This would not have led both games to be delayed, as I'm certain G&W was set to be released for either Jan or Feb. While it might be a factor, it could be that business decision delays were made to push games into the next FY.
2. You can think that, but it would be a terrible decision on Nintendo's part to have an HD remake and Wii Sports U and a completely new-to-the-US IP fight off against the launch of Durango and Orbis (or at least one of them). Those launches are going to be massive, and if Nintendo can't release anything to stave off buyers, they are in a bad bad place. And Tomodachi Collection 2 is staying in Japan. It is a huge seller, but it is way too focused on Japanese culture. Nintendo knows all of the above, and regardless of the timeframe involved, they *will* get one of the two games out for the holiday, one way or another. They got both Mario 3D Land and MK7 out in a year-and-a-half time or so before...
3. In another post you mentioned how we didn't see certain people from the SMG1 and SMG2 teams in a while. Well...this could be the game they were working on. SM3DL is going to be 2 years old this holiday, which would be a bit short of a timeframe for a new from-the-ground-up Mario title. New franchises would be nice, but new IPs don't just happen in Nintendo's highest development areas, especially when they need people to buy their systems.
4. Agree. GREZZO is either making a Majora's Mask 3D or a brand new handheld Zelda with Nintendo supervision. Or they could be doing all the legwork for WWHD.

On that note, here is what I see happening going forward.
LEGO City Undercover (by TT Fusion) - March, already confirmed.
Game & Wario (SPD & Intelligent Systems) - April, game has been pushed at previous NDs as though it were coming soon, now it has a release date in JPN, etc.
Wii Fit U (EAD Group 5) - May, game boxart has been released, NDs have shown Fitmeter and Miiverse features, showing game is very near completion. Won't be at E3.
Pikmin 3 (EAD Group 4) - Could be released June, post-E3, Nintendo has shown Miiverse elements and originally said Pikmin 3 was Q2 as of the early December ND. Could slip to August if Nintendo finds another June release. E3 or March ND will fully disclose more features.
Wii U Party (Nd Cube) - July/August, said this ND to release this summer, gameplay looks almost entirely complete. Does this confirm 2 teams at Nd Cube with Mario Party 9 released only a year and a half earlier? Or is Wii U Party that quick a game to develop?
The Wonderful 101 (Platinum Games) - July/August, the game looks more polished but still has no completed logo or other elements disclosed such as possible multiplayer or Miiverse. Nintendo might do fuller blowout at E3 amid the other big hitters. Could swap places with Pikmin 3, too.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD (EAD Group 3 / GREZZO / ??) - September/October, this game is set for Fall this year, and looking at models, the game is not being fully remade. I do think it will not have new dungeons but will surely have a few added tweaks and whatnot to make the game better near the end. This was supposed to be E3 unveiled as the game was shown in very early screens this week.
Yoshi's Yarn/Land (Good-Feel / Tezuka Supervising) - October/November, filling in the 2nd-tier Nintendo game for the holiday is Yoshi, it will have been 3 years since KEY, so it is a fitting time frame, game has been rumored since late 2011. This was an E3 reveal as there was only beta videos with barely any gameplay displayed.
I think those are pretty close to correct and anything else is purely going to be unknown at this point.
New 3D Mario (EAD Tokyo) - While SM3DL is only 2 years old, there could have been more development of Wii U Mario in the background, or there is some collaboration this time around, too.
New Mario Kart (EAD Group 1) - MK7 will have been 2 years old by this holiday. Could have more Retro assistance. Also, like MKWii, could be released in mid-2014 to fill the gap in that period.
Bayonetta 2 (Platinum Games) - Game is very early yet. Will see another teaser at E3. Expect 2014 release.
Smash Bros. (Sora / Namco-Bandai) - Still early, so much so we only see screenshots this E3. Suspect Late 2014 release. 3DS game might release first.
X (Monolithsoft) - This was not a hasted announcement, as there was a full trailer prepped for this game's unveiling. Perhaps it was meant for a couple weeks later, but it was ready to reveal unlike WWHD and Yoshi. Game has been in development for about 2.5 years. Expect release in Japan by late 2013 or early 2014. US release mid-to-late 2014.
SMTxFE (Atlus / Intelligent Systems) - Concept teaser, mid 2014 at earliest.
New Zelda (EAD Group 3) - Discussion of game, no info, late 2015 expected.
That leaves a few Nintendo developers unattended: Retro Studios (2-3 year development), Alpha Dream (3 years missing, 3DS), some SPD groups (3DS most likely), Monster Games (2 years hidden, could be 3DS/Wii U), NST (Crosswords does not make them, but might be a year off from next bigger game).
Considering that, I think Retro's Game and the New 3D Mario game will fill the year end schedule for Wii U.

That's overly optimistic. Metroid Prime 4 I don't think even makese sense honestly. Nintendo would have no problem saying "there is a Metroid game in development" alongside Mario and Mario Kart and Zelda if it was. Especially something as formulaic as a 4th installment like Prime 4 which has resulted in rather niche sales the last 10 years.
Why do you think that? There is not even a hint of that game, and if it is in development we would have already seen it in the last NDI still think Diddy Kong Racing Returns might be real, in which case Mario Kart 8 would likely get pushed out to 2H 2014.

But retro making a racing game? I refuse to believe lol I think they are developing a metroid game and maybe a star fox one. I feel like the diddy kong racing franchise is dead and there are more different racing IPs that Nintendo is able to use if they want to offer something that is not mario kartWe didn't see any Retro games in the last ND, I guess they don't have any in development then.
Hell, I think DKRR might actually be a 2nd Retro project, rather than Monster Games (which was the rumor).

That may be too much but it can be true, with Sony's/MS's next gen launching you never know how Nintendo will react.
Retro's recently taken stewardship of DK with the amazing DKCR and they recently helped out EAD1 on Mario Kart 7. They've also expanded quite a bit over the past couple years, to the point where they now have two fully functioning R&D teams. Put two and two together. But retro making a racing game? Sorry, I had forgotten that they helped with mario kart 7, then it makes sense having a diddy kong racing, but maybe they'll rename it donkey kong racingRetro's recently taken stewardship of DK with the amazing DKCR and they recently helped out EAD1 on Mario Kart 7. I feel like if Star Fox U happens, it'll be Kamiya's game after W101.

You would think they would react by having a great year one lineup ready, starting with the launch, but in fact they delivered a launch that was notably lacking compared to the GameCube and N64.
Nintendo does not learn from mistakes. They are literally repeating the exact same mistakes they made with the 3DS. Very high price, lacking launch lineup, no virtual console day one, and a sparse lineup for year one.
I could see that, but I'd also expect them to play on the nostalgia angle "DKR Returns" would bring. Donkey Kong would still probably be in the game anyway.Sorry, I had forgotten that they helped with mario kart 7, then it makes sense having a diddy kong racing, but maybe they'll rename it donkey kong racing
I thought GAFers in-the-know had more or less confirmed the same? But I'll admit I've only paid attention casually, maybe someone keeping better track could elaborate?Has this actually been confirmed or are we still simply assuming their 'expansion' (which we've only really heard about from LinkedIn snooping) has now got to the point where they can manage two teams on two different in-house projects?
I just had an idea: what of retro is the one behind mario kart wii u? And meanwhile the mario kart team is working with monster games in reviving a racing franchise? That would be cool
Bayonetta 2 will be a 2013 title. It was in development for years prior to switching to WiiU; Platinum confirmed a great deal of work has already been done. Nintendo knows how pivotal this title is with the hardcores, hence they've been teasing it piecemeal. It's not because they have nothing to show -- in fact, JP from Platinum said here that he saw Bayo 2 footage and required a power-lifter to raise his dropped jaw! -- but E3 will mark the beginning of a deluge of media, and then it will hit in time to try and distract from Orbis/Durango.
You mean, they can't just hit a button and make a game? With a 2-3 year dev cycle for the more elaborate games, I find it doubtful that Nintendo could have done anything to reorient many aspects of Wii U's launch due to the reaction to the 3DS launch - despite a great deal of effort in many quarters to classify NSMB U and Ninendoland as disposable trash or at least completely mediocre, those are not insignificant titles.
This is kind of like all the people complaining Nintendo should have changed the name six months from launch - unfortunately it doesn't work that way.
High price - no, not really. $50 more than the Wii for the basic package. The perception that Wii U is horribly overpriced seems to stem from opinions that it should cost like $200 tops because it's "seven year old technology!" and the gamepad and all related tech is free. A better argument might be that if Nintendo was going to eat anything (because they're already eating something, however small), Nintendoland should have been a pack-in with the base model, and something else such as NSMB U or even Zombi U should have been a pack-in with the deluxe system in all western territories as a standard SKU.
As much as I love Monster, I think they'd be better suited for Wave Race, 1080° or another Excite! game.In my world, Monster is reviving FZero and Kamiya is reviving Star Fox. It's lots of fun here.
