Eurogamer: Lego City could blow the franchise wide open/save the WiiU [Dont port beg]

If you're upset that this thread isn't a WiiU circle-jerk, you should probably be upset at the OP and the thread title, because arguing how Lego City Undercover isn't going to save the WiiU seems to be fair game and on-topic.

Are you kidding? You guys are way too easy.

But seriously, what the hell is 'port-begging'?

You really don't know what port begging is?

This is what Nintendo needs to do with their next console: Play two games at once, one on the TV the other on the Gamepad.

Ha. I've thought this more than once while the kid is playing Skylanders. Of course then Nintendo wouldn't get me to buy multiple systems. Who am I kidding? I'm a whore for video games. Can't get out of a generation without doubles of all the consoles. :(

I'm really trying hard to avoid this crap, but you make it oh so difficult.

Really? I feel like he's one of the easier ones to ignore. Some of the others have it down to a subtle science.

And for LCU vs. GTA V, I don't see a competition here. They are at list 6 month apart (even more considering the PC version that I am curious about) and we are looking at different games, I think we won't see clowns shooting confetti at policemen in GTA.

At the risk of derailing the derail, does anyone have details about any definitive news on whether it has multiplayer yet? A number of blogs making the claim it does not (with little detail), but I didn't see any actual articles on the subject in my brief search.

As someone over 30, I think this actually has way more appeal to my demographic then something like GTA. Younger folks and older folks are good fit. The GTA crowd are mostly teens and kids in their 20's.

Another game I would LOVE to see on the wiiU that stirs my emotions like this one is "Toy Commander" from the dreamcast. Man I loved that game. :)

Dude.... Duuuuuddddeeee... I loved that game! Sorry to say, No Cliche closed up shop eons ago :(

I hope Lego Undercover is a hit with gamers, it seems a lot of love and hard work went into it

I mean, I guess I could take the literal definition of it, but that doesn't really make any sense to me...

It's when you openly say that you want a particular game on your console of choice because you have no interest in buying the console it actually appears on.
It starts stupid flame wars and because of that it's a bannable offense.

I really hope this game does well.

Could you imagine a sequel with online coop :D

I think they really had to get used to the different approach compared to a "classic" lego game. So if they nailed it, and does well, please bring a sequel with online coop!

Wii: a system on which to buy downports

Wii U (year 1): a system on which to buy late ports

Wii U (year 2+): a system on which to buy late downports?

Considering that Wii U is getting City Undercover as exclusive and Marvel Super Heroes alongside the other versions, I'd say:

Wii U: a system on which you buy Lego games.

I'm not a big fan of Lego games, but this one looks like fun and really creative. It also is not a traditional Lego liscenced game.

It could be great...It actually has my interest especially after how good Lego: LOTR was, but I don't think I could bring myself to buy a Wii U specifically for this one game, and I think there are going to be a lot of people in the same boat. I don't see this being much more than a timed exclusive, and personally I'd love to see a next gen version of this game on Durango/PS4, so I might hold out hope for a while.

This one seems pretty different, to be fair. Have you seen the trailers at all?

Nintendo publish this game, is it possible they abandon it?

Lack of multiplayer is a serious bummer. The Lego games are synonymous with side by side co-op in my house. Every single Lego game up until now has had it and it is going to be greatly missed in my home. I own all the Lego games and my kids have played through them all together. It's going to hard trying to explain this one is only single player. I guess they can pass the controller back and forth, but that is a dubious solution at best when dealing with 4 and 6 year old sisters!

On the positive side, the game does look like great fun. Lego Batman 2 is the pinnacle of the series for me and Undercover looks to remove even more restrictions that are tied to licences and allow the creators to really go crazy. I look forward to both this and their upcoming Marvel Lego game.

Still, that lack of multiplayer stings deep!

Lol. That's pretty much how I feel about all games. We get probably (if we're lucky) half a dozen "new" games that mix it up each generation and show me something I haven't seen before. I enjoy them because I enjoy video games. Run and Jump was fun in 1980 and it's still fun now. So was/is Combat and Adventure.

I wish they would sell an Iwata Minifig or give me one for free with this game. Nintendo Headquarters playset please!

This is a Nintendo funded and published game

WB just acknowledging that the natural base for their series lines up best with the Wii base.

It's a recognition that certain other brands (Sonic, Epic Mickey) would have done well to notice.

Well Sega noticed it, that's why we got special games for Wii (and black knight probably poisoned that...).
Why they didn't do the same for WiiU I have no idea.

Something something ninja gaiden razors edge something something...

Keep waiting for that Bayonneta 2/W101 ports while you're at it.

Yes GTAV and SR4 will be huge at E3, Lego will need to pull of something special.

Fun.

...Looka at the game release dates... Look at E3 dates...

Yeah, fun.

Anyway, even if Lego City Undercover won't give a fuck to E3, because dates, one of the "special" things, compared to GTA and the like, is... :
NL: One description we’ve used is LEGO GTA, is that accurate – in terms of side-quests and so on – or is that a bit off?

Graham Goring: I think it’s just because they (Rockstar) got there first, so a lot of people go to that. The feel of the game, the moral tone etc is completely opposite. It might be a handy reference to get people up to speed with this, but when they actually play it they’ll appreciate the differences. As I said, in a lot of open world games you don’t tend to go on top of buildings because there’s nothing there, whereas with this there’s platforming all over the game. It’s very different.

There seems to be plenty of "parkour" gameplay phases in LCU and it also is something which should be taken into account when considering the scale of this open world: verticality.

It sounds like the lads over at Eurogamer are doing their pals down the street a solid. TT are most likely sweating the fact that the Wii U is dead in the UK and went to Eurogamer to help get the word out.

Not published in Japan, only overseas.

Functionally, that game was Nintendo's in the same way that, say, Dragon Quest IX was; in no meaningful sense whatsoever. A different thing to a worldwide publication job with funding coming from Nintendo itself.

Wii didn't get the big showcase titles such as 06 or Generations.
Hell, 3DS got a Generations version, and I'm pretty sure I heard it sold the most out of any version.

It's a shame that there is no local multiplayer. It would be a fun game to play with my little bro. Even some type of "boost mode" like NFS or Mario would be nice to have.

wii owners certainly got the best end of the deal by not getting 06, the lack of generations was pretty baffling though

The humor is great in this game. At least that's what I decipher from the trailers.

Wii got Colors a year before, there's such a thing as too many games.
If you ask me I prefer Colors.
We got Black Knight though

I'm trying to follow your logic path but I keep getting lost. Can you please post an example where your scenario has happened before?

It can't be because they actually like games right? I would assume the best way to get the
word out about this game would be an actual ad campaign which given their handling of Wiiu's does not bode well.

Would like to know if this game will get any DLC at some point. Also any online aspects it might have outside of Miiverse. Which I hope is integrated into the game. Nintendo needs to get the official site up so we can have more information.

save the wiiU?

not going to happen. nobody is going to spend hundreds of bucks to get a console for this game

Oh my, strange to see people not interested in the console in this threads. Its like they have to show other people something negative about the Wii U.

Well i got the Wii U early for this game!

Comments like this sound more like your personal opinion about the game and system than anything else. Nobody knows how the reception this game will get, we don´t even know if nintendo will push for it. It is a game that can sell well overtime like all Lego games. Don´t think 1 game can be a console savior but it is a pretty damn good start!!
