Naughty Dog: The Last of Us at least around 12-16 hours long

In an interview with EvolveEnt, we now know specifically how long the campaign will be in The Last of Us.

“We’re definitely looking at more than 12 hours, maybe 12 to 16 right now is what we’re looking at,” explains Naughty Dog’s Arne Meyer in a video interview. “It really depends on how you play. You can play a little bit slower if you try to approach situations stealthy, if you really wanna explore the environment and scavenge, that’s going to add more time too.”

I'm definitely going to be towards the 16 hour side. I'll probably scour every inch of this game :p

I'd have preferred even longer if it's character/narrative development heavy, but 12-16 hours sounds fantastic.

If that's not an overstatement that's a damn long action game.

Actually so long as it's no more than double of an exageration that's still kind of long.

That would be RE4 dimensions. I thinks its possible. Given the footage I have seen, it looks like the game has a pretty slow pacing.

8-9 hour game CONFIRMED

Lol, hopefully not, that's about how long it took me to finish Uncharted 2.

I think this should be longer, it doesn't seem to have fast pacing. The levels are more "wide linear", and being the type of player I am, I slowly look over every nook and cranny in each area.

It'll probably be a respectable 10 hours.

For comparison, how long is Tomb Raider? It seems to be taking me forever to finish.

Perfect length. I recently completed Tomb Raider in a similar amount of time and felt it was perfectly satisfactory.

Tomb Raider was about 9-10 hours(unless you just HAD to find every single damn useless collectible), but I felt it overstayed it's welcome, and the second half kinda exposed a lot of things in the game I didn't like

But on the other hand, Uncharted 2 was about 10 hours, and that was awesome.

Still, Jak 2 was the longest, you Naughty liars!

Is it possible to beat the game without firing a single shot?

Well, there are some sections where combat is necessary. You might be able to get around it without firing a shot, but you'll have to fight at some points. But they've said that they've tried to design many of the combat situations with the option or just skip around it.

My playtime is usually a couple hours longer than what most publications say, so I'm probably looking at 18 hours. That's quite long. Hope the pacing is good!

Great length. I'll probably take even longer since i'm the type that double and triple checks everything.

Yep. Plan to explore every nook and cranny. TR turned out a near 30 hour experience without 100% completion, so I expect this to be the same with me and my playstyle.

More like 22-26 hour game confirmed
Haha.

My time is usually double the GAF standard. If there's stealth I *will* go stealth and learn the AI's life stories while doing so. If I can ghost past enemies entirely through painstaking but non-cheesed techniques, I *will* do so, and fail, and try again several times until I put that fucking bullshit game away before taking a breather for a few days and diving back in. And if the salvage here is better than "DING, +10 salvage points!" I'll probably even explore the hell out of the environments.

So yeah, anywhere from 10-70 hours for me, maybe.

It has multiplayer, which means:

12 x Infinite = Infinite gameplay
$60 x Infinite hours= Infinite Value

Infinite gameplay x Infinite value = Buy

I am someone who takes a really long ass time to finish games like Uncharted. I spend a lot of time just looking around and admiring the scenery and other little details. I will be playing this game for a long time

That said...I really want to see the MP in action

I prefer heavy story-based games to be this length. Naughty Dog clearly likes to develop a cinematic experience with movie quality plots and action, if it goes on for too long, then those type of things tend to drag a bit. It's best to have a story be as long as it needs to be.
Regardless, I wish I had my PS3 to play this.

Considering that Resident Evil 4 lasted me a little more over 20 hours, in my first playthrough, how much was that, for normal people? (i'm thinking something around 15 hours, too?) So can i expect this to be the same as RE4?

Exactly. Even if it does turn out to be seemingly annoying, it's just something I have to do to get my fill. Sucks for people who do finish it in much less time. Can't imagine doing that.

Has naughty dog exaggerated game length before?

not for me. Even Uncharted games, I clocked in a good 2-3 more hours than mentioned.

RE4 is a bit on the long side of action games, at least 15+ hours for a first playthrough. The only other I can think of recently that hit that mark was Half-Life 2. Luckily, both of those had enough ideas to sustain that kind of length.

Shieettt, sounds awesome. Going by my standard gaming pace, probably north of 15 hours for me. Hopefully it doesn't overstay its welcome, 15 hours for story heavy games is longgggg. I can spend 15 hours doing nothing in Skyrim but in a game like this, it feels so much more exhaustive.

I'm super hyped though, media blackout and all.

I heard 12 or so for Tomb Raider and Steam says that took me all of 6-7 to finish (I did not bother with collectibles unless they were obvious and along my way.)

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
These games are never as long as developers say they are.

Seems like it always takes me quite a few more hours than the average gaffer... and I'm still usually faster than what devs suggest lol.

Metal Gear games are also pretty lengthy.
MGS3 lasted me about the same as RE4 on my first run and, although it's a stealth (so slower pace) it's also pretty packed with content (then again, much of it was cutscenes).

But yeah, this gen i can't think of a game that lasted that long without shameless padding.
